Laos is the 74th place I’ve been to. became my country. On my way to Laos, I couldn’t find many resources online.. After my return, I decided to write extensively on Laos. Let’s examine together the answers to questions such as Where is Laos, in which continent is Laos, and how to get to Laos about this country that we have not heard of much about, but that those who go to Southeast Asia would like to visit.
About Laos. Facts
People’s Democratic Republic of Laos is a very different country. One of the last 5 countries in the world ruled by communism. 133 poorest in the world.
However, the country where the most bombs fell in the world. Although Laos, located in Southeast Asia, has tried to come to the fore with tourism in recent years, it is the only country in this geography that does not have a coastline.. But despite this, it is a beautiful country that many tourists visit and enchants people with its nature.
In my video below, I explained how I went to Laos
Traveling Laos is neither cheap nor expensive. Middling. A person costs between 35-50 dollars a day.
People are poor.. But because the French always exploited this geography; Nowadays, many foreign investors have come to Laos and started to open rich places.
There are already certain income items in the country: such as coffee, rice and tourism.
There is hardly any industry.. I have already explained all of these at length in my Laos Travel Tips article.. Never make a Laos plan without reading that article.
1. Where is Laos & On Which Continent?
For those who say Where is Laos: Laos is in the east of Thailand; northeast of Cambodia; It lies to the west of Vietnam and China.
Vientiane, the Capital of Laos. Actually it used to be Luang Prabang. It later became Vientiane.
By the way, let me quickly talk about the visa situation of the countries right next to Laos:
- China requires a visa
- Cambodia requires a gate visa
- Thailand requires a visa from visa-free countries
- Myanmar requires a visa
- Vietnam definitely requires a visa, but getting a Vietnam visa is very simple
As for Laos biggest problem : The roads are very bad. Transportation nuisance. In intercity transportation, you can travel at a speed of 30 km per hour.
Also, we can go to Laos by obtaining a visa.. I have already explained this at length in my How to Get a Laos Visa article.
2. How to Get to Laos? How to Travel ?
This is the hardest part, my friends.. I say very clearly: Even when traveling between the most touristic cities, you can only travel 100 km by bus in 4 hours.. Therefore, the most difficult thing in Laos will probably be transportation.
First, let me talk about how to get to Laos :
By plane : From Turkey no direct flight. Even connecting flights are expensive. If you do not already have a visa, you cannot fly directly.. They do not take them into the country.
So the most convenient way is to fly to Bangkok and then take another flight or train-bus to Laos.. Before you buy a plane ticket about it. I say This Post read it.
Let’s say you came to Thailand.. After that it’s much simpler. There are many alternatives such as train, bus and plane.. The easiest is the plane, but the tickets are a bit expensive.. If you want it to be economical, train and bus are the best.
The best site in this geography, in my opinion, is SU 12goasia. I say get your tickets there.. They would be the most comprehensive site.
By the way I gave the example of Thailand, but in fact, countries such as Cambodia, Vietnam, and China can also easily go to Laos.
As long as you have a visa.. You can see all the transportation alternatives I mentioned above and choose the one that suits you.. All alternatives you can think of, prices, travel time, etc.. You can see all of them on that site.
I assume you’ve come to Laos now:
The most used vehicles are buses or minivans for 8-10 people, which they call minivans, in terms of transportation in the country.. Never seek comfort and luxury, even convenience.
If I were to talk about transportation, for example Vientiane:
There is a terminal they call the northern bus station.. You can find a bus anywhere from here.. Actually you go with mini vans. I wouldn’t say bus. Prices are around 50,000 Kip.
Likewise, Luang Prabang has both an airport and a bus station.. From here, you can find buses and minivans to all parts of the country.
Laos currency : Laos Kip. 1 Dollar 8.575 Kip
The easiest way to travel around the city is to rent a motorbike. You can rent a motor for 100,000 Kip per day.. By the way, $1: around 8500 Kip.
Transportation by plane is expensive in Laos. There are not many airports or airline companies anyway.
Airline companies in this geography have just begun to enter the market.. There is also Laos Airlines, which is a national airline company.. But the prices are quite expensive.. Definitely need to buy tickets early.. By the way :
There are hotels in Laos for 5 Euros per night. click to review
3. What Season and When to Go to Laos
It is actually 12 months of the year to go to Laos, but monsoon rains start especially in summer.. So there may be sudden rains and storms. I do not recommend for summer vacation.
I went to Laos in February. The weather was fine. In fact, in this region, I liked the atmosphere of Laos the most.. Anyway, the best period is these months.
4. Which Cities of Laos
The country of Laos has been under French colonization for years. Until they gained their independence, foreigners were always exploiting these lands.. That’s why the country could not develop. There are few proper cities.. Generally, there are towns and villages.
I said above: Getting from one place to another in Laos is a problem.. That’s why there are major cities. These are:
- Capital Vientiane
- Unesco Protected Luang Prabang
Most other areas have small villages and towns. Industry undeveloped. nature everywhere. People are pure. I have already explained all of these in my Laos Travel Tips.
