We Wrote Top 10 Places to See and Visit in Bavaria: Bavaria’s Lakes, Ski Resorts, Mountains
Bavaria Through Our Eyes!
It’s been 6 months since I moved to Munich. Those who change cities very often know that the most important thing is to establish a bond of love with that city.. We got used to and loved Munich so much that even we are surprised that we love it so much! In addition to all its difficult features, Munich stands in the middle of such a geography that it is impossible not to admire it… One head is mountains, the other is green, the other is cities from the Middle Ages…
A person who visits Jerusalem every year Hundreds of tourists were affected by Jerusalem’s extreme mystical atmosphere, intense history, and adherence to its belief and philosophy, and they succumbed to the ‘Jerusalem Syndrome and began to see themselves as a ‘religious leader’ by going into a state of purification.. Every year, 45 people are hospitalized for this psychosis.. Just after we moved to Bavaria, things changed and we feel like we’ve changed.. We said, is there a Bavarian version of this Jerusalem syndrome?
Going to the mountains, getting lost in the green, driving for hours on two wheels is such a beautiful feeling that it simplifies and gives inner peace that it’s almost like ‘deep diving’ into nature is our new hobby, it’s about Bavaria. Writing an article and preparing the ‘top 10‘ must-see places in Bavaria was also a must for us! Sometimes we visited the medieval cities in Bavaria, sometimes we camped in the middle of a forest.. Little did we go, we loved Bavaria!
Bavaria, as we say, is a vast geography with tons of places to visit! We are sure that there are many more places to recommend, but we are not in favor of suggesting any place we have not been to or experienced ourselves, so we made the list among the places we visited ourselves.
Here’s to the most beautiful places in Bavaria from our eyes!
Information immediately before going to the list:
Bavarian in German is Bayern, in English Bavaria is the largest state in Germany covering the entire Southeast. its capital is Munich. Nuremberg, Ausburg and Regensburg are other important cities.
Bavarian people do not like Berliners very much and consider them ‘elite’, while Berliners see Bavarians as ‘mountain men’ and do not like them very much.
Bavaria people are generally referred to as ‘farmers’ and treated somewhat like laz. According to one of our followers (you guess why we didn’t give his name), most of the German porn movies either take place here or there is definitely a Bavarian in the movies..
Bavarian people are also famous for their special traditional clothes.. The one for women is called Dirndl, the one for men is called Lederhosen.
It is said that Nazism was born in Bavaria, but we do not know whether it is true or not.
In short, it is both peasant and modern, the richest and the cleanest. Bavaria is the region with the lowest crime rate and the most police in Germany. You can go to the mountains in summer and winter, and you can swim in the lakes in good weather.. Although some Germans call it ‘Northern Italy’, it is the region with the most ‘German’ character.
Traveling in Bavaria
The best way to travel cheaply in Bavaria is ‘ Train ticket called ‘Bayern Ticket‘. Namely; You buy the Bavarian train ticket, valid only in the Bavarian region, from the ticket machines in Munich or any other Bavarian city or from this site, valid on the day you go for sightseeing, and you can use it unlimitedly in all types of public transport within the borders of Bavaria all day (until 3 at night).
Ticket is 25 Euros per person and 6 Euros for each additional person (up to 5 people). Let’s say you are 5 people, you have unlimited public transportation right for a total of 49 Euros per day and you can take almost all trains except the fastest ICE trains.. You can even go to Salzburg with this ticket.. Think with this logic, 5 people can leave Munich in the morning, go to Nuremberg, wander all day and go to Salzburg in the evening (okay, this was a very irrelevant route) and you pay 10 Euros per person for this.. In addition, for families with children, children under the age of 15 are free.
This is how cheap travel is done.. There is only one walking part left!
1-) Königsee – Berchtesgaden National Park
It has been 1 month since I moved to Munich that by chance on the internet Königsee‘ We made a plan to go here a week later when we saw the photos of .
It’s good that we went.. We saw Königsee and we said, if there is a paradise, it must be here…Königsee and especially Berchtesgaden Nature Park in this region is an incredible geography. Especially if you want to camp like us, make a fire and climb mountains and hills, jump on the train and come to this geography.. If you like the idea of hiking trails, camping areas, greenery, nature and tranquility, you will definitely love this place.
This area is so close to Salzburg that a city bus goes to Salzburg.. If you have a Salzburg plan, you can easily include this region in your trip.. It takes 20-25 minutes by city bus from Salzburg and costs 5 Euros one way (we’re serious). there is a way. You can choose according to your condition and taste.
We said it when we got back from Königsee and we repeat it; You know that ‘Undiscovered places of Europe‘ list circulating on the internet, we hope Königsee will never be on that list, it will remain pure and clear like this.’
Königsee and Its Surroundings You can find our article here.
2-) Neuschwanstein Castle
If you happen to be in Munich or another city nearby, someone around you will definitely tell you about this castle or when you write places to visit in Munich on the internet. You will definitely come across this magnificent castle.. We can’t say enough about this famous Neuschwanstein Castle between the mountains and above the clouds, which Walt Disney inspired when creating Cinderella’s castle and inspired its logo!
<
Neuschwanstein Castle is also the southernmost point of the 350 km ‘Romantic Road starting from Würzburg, which is one of the most beautiful routes in Germany.. This means that if you’ve taken the Romantic Road, your path will surely fall to NŞ!
Ludwig II, also known as the Romantic King, 19. He was forced to ascend the throne and became King of Bavaria.. At the time, he was fascinated by Wagner and developed an obsessive passion for epic medieval Germany.. As a reflection of this passion, he decided to build Neuschwanstein Castle and two more castles.. The only thing he could finish was NŞ. II. Unlike the castle he built, Ludwig is described as a sensitive, dreamy, shy and lonely king.. It has even been written that the fact that he could not live his childhood and youth years to the fullest because he ascended the throne too early caused the castle to create a cave where millions were spent.. Is it true? Who knows?
The castle is gorgeous, just like in the photos.. It looked like it was advertising, but we didn’t know what else to call it.
If you intend to visit Neuschwanstein Castle, you can take a look at our travel article here.
3-) Füssen
Neuschwanstein Castle’ Füssen is a tiny, tiny, tiny city-like city 10km from. If you have visited NŞ, you can spend 2 hours in this city on your way out or back.. You can take a coffee break, tour the narrow side streets and take pictures.. It has a very cute old town square and coffee shops.
If you have visited NŞ (Neuschwanstein Castle) and want to stay for 1 night, Füssen is very suitable for your stay.. There are also very nice mountain view hotels for winter time.. If you go in winter time, you can consider Hotel Fantasia.
4-) Garmisch – Partenkirchen
Garmish, a very popular ski resort in the German Alps and one of the most popular ski resorts in Germany. The highest mountain ‘Zugspitze‘ is also in this region.
The train from Munich to Garmish takes about 80 minutes and even if you are not interested in skiing (we don’t have any), it is a very nice walk in this area. it has roads, chalets and hotels where you can pamper yourself with magnificent views.
If you are interested in skiing, the ski slopes are almost the same as the Austrian Tyrols right next to it and the prices in Garmisch are half the price.. 42 Euros including round trip ski pass from Munich. Since the hotel prices are half as compared to the Tyrol region, you can easily consider this place for both a day trip and a 1-2 day weekend enjoyment.
If you’ve come this far and are looking for a hotel with both mountain view and a suitable hotel, Garmisch’s You can check out the Gästehaus Ethiko located in the Ettal region very close to it.
As a matter of fact, it is very likely that you will like the town when you can bathe in these snows, slide on the ice in winter, and throw stones in the lakes in summer. !
Since we’ve come this far, it’s impossible not to see Eibsee, another beauty in the Bavarian Alps, let’s talk about it right away!
5-) Eibsee (Lake Eib)
Lake Eib A beautiful lake in the Bavarian Alps. It is about 90 km from Munich and just at the foot of Zugspitze, the highest point in Germany mentioned above.
The easiest way to reach this lake from Munich (if you don’t have a car) ) train + bus option. You can come to Garmisch by train from Munich and take the buses to Eibsee from here.. The train takes about 80 minutes to Garmisch, from there it takes about half an hour by bus to Eibsee. The views alone are so beautiful during the bus ride! People don’t want the road to end, take another lake to fill you with peace… I wish it was always this easy to find peace
If you’re coming from Munich, your Bavarian ticket will save your day and you won’t have to pay extra for the road.
If you have planned a weekend in Garmisch, you can spare a day for Eib Lake, take a 1-2 hour walk by the lake, take a beer break and return to Garmisch in the evening.. If you don’t want to plan to stay, it is very comfortable to come from Munich for a day.. Especially in this geography like September – October, the color of nature is so beautiful! You can think of Eibsee’s best time as September – October…
6-) A sneaky weekend in Bavaria! Hotel Mauthausl!
Our last months in Munich were very stressful and we wanted to reward ourselves for a weekend and throw ourselves completely into the mountains, and as a result of our research we came across Hotel Mauthausl, which is also in the Bavarian Alps it turned out to be cut out. We made our reservation right away (50 Euros per person per night) and got our Bavarian Ticket early on Saturday and set off.
You can still come from Munich by train + bus combination, and first you need to come to Traunstein station by train, take the bus that leaves from there and get off at the Mauthausl stop. need. You’re already getting off right in front of the hotel.. The road takes an average of 2 hours.
If you are in Salzburg, your job is even easier.. The hotel is only 20 km from Salzburg Airport and we are sure we saw a city bus in front of the hotel that goes to the center of Salzburg!
We did not like this hotel and especially the view from our room.. Imagine you are in the middle of the mountains, there is neither a cafe nor a noise or an event next to you.. There is only this hotel in the middle of the mountains and you feel like you are in the mountains from your hotel room! Especially if it’s autumn time!
We spent almost half a day at the hotel on the terrace of our room, looking at the mountains, reading a book and drinking wine.. Good thing we did, I swear we got rid of all our stress!
In the morning of our second day, we caught sight of one of the dozens of walking paths around the hotel and after a 1-1.5 hour walk on the Höllenbachalm walking path. We finished the weekend by tasting homemade cheeses and drinking beers in the chalet we reached.. When we got home, we were a very different ‘we’ from the ‘us’ who left the house on Friday in nervous stress.. If you happen to come across this hotel, be sure to ask for a ‘trekking paths‘ brochure from the reception and try a route you have your eye on.
Definitely and definitely this hotel is the best choice for those who want to spend a romantic weekend with their lover, relax with their family, or want to relax with their family. We recommend it to anyone who wants to spend a romantic weekend with a close friend..
7-) Rothenburg ob der Tauber
The 350-400 kilometer road, which starts from Füssen in Southern Germany and ends in Würzburg, is the most popular road in Germany with its natural and historical beauties. Maybe you’ve heard of the Romantic Road, which is a tourist route.. Along this road, you feel yourself in dozens of medieval villages and towns, and in Heidi’s village, sometimes next to Hansel and Gretel in the towns of this road.
Here Rothenburg these 400 kilometer road, the most intact town and the first settlement in the region dates back to 500 BC.. even 13. century I. It was even awarded the title of the world’s first ‘free imperial city’ by Rudolph.
This tiny town is surrounded by walls, ditches and hills, and you understand why the city was never overcome in its time.. Especially at Christmas time, its beauty is probably doubled when Christmas markets are set up in town.. At Christmas time, Rothenburg can be a great route if you can stand the cold..
We went in October and although we were traveling with 9 people and we broke new ground in slowness, we toured the town in 1 day.. You can come from Munich or Nuremberg for a day or stay for 1 night.. If you stay for 1 night don’t. Or if you have never met a racist and hateful German in Germany and you are wondering, you can go and meet the owner of this hotel.. We don’t call anyone racist easily, but the owner of this hotel was a pioneer in racism and we condemn him with contempt..
Bamberg
Welcome to one of the cities where beer is consumed the most in the world, with a beer consumption of 300 liters per capita per year! Almost 1 liter of beer per person per day. Undoubtedly, the city is beautiful to its inhabitants! What about as a tourist?
Bamberg is one of the German cities that survived the Second World War with the least damage, and especially the city center, narrow bridges and the old city part are incredibly beautiful.. Cities built on the water’s edge have always fascinated us (Well, we’ve been from Istanbul all these years). Bamberg appeals to us exactly in this respect! It even has such a beautiful canal and houses around the canal that the Germans call Bamberg ‘Little Venice’ among themselves!
Bamberg’s old town is on the World Heritage List because it is seen as an example of the Middle Ages.. We leave it to you to evaluate the Altes Rathaus, that is, the Town Hall, here you go
Bamberg takes about 20 minutes by train to Nuremberg, and it takes approximately 2.5 minutes by train to Bavaria by buying a Bavarian ticket from Munich. you can reach on time. We took a day trip, but you can stay for 1 night if you want.
And don’t forget, the most famous thing in Bamberg is ‘Smoke Beer’, which they call Rauchbier.. The first one tastes so bad, the second you say eh, the third one is awesome! Tell us
Bamberg was a destination for us that we loved very much, had a lot of fun and took lots of photos.. We hope you like it too!
9-) Tegernsee
Don’t worry, as Tegernsee is nearing the end, Tegernsee was our first ‘mountains’ experience in Munich and we went out for a day. The route has officially caused us to become ‘enlightened’, to make almost all our trips nature-oriented for the next 6 months, and to change our perspective on the mountains! Good thing it did!
Tegernsee, or Lake Tegern, is an ‘overdose’ peaceful place surrounded by the Bavarian Alps. If you want, you can rent your bike, if you want, you can rent a sailboat in the summer, if you want, you can do neither of these and walk around the base.. We went for a day trip, but one of our plans for the near future is to spend a weekend here.
We are not talking about the fact that it is a very nice route for trekking and that you can easily come to Tegernsee from Munich by buying a Bavarian ticket, you know it
And!
10-) Munich
As the guest of honor, of course, our city has the last word! Munich is our city where we moved in May 2017, about 5 months ago, and gave us very good times.. Our wandering spirit found a harbor in this city, we found our home in Munich.
After we moved to this city, we began to simplify, to look at the world with a different perception as it became simpler.. We can almost say that our hearts have been opened.. While we were constantly trying to catch up with something in the years we lived in Istanbul, we realized that we missed life and now we have a quieter life in this city without hurrying.. We are lighter not only in thought but also in action. We are purer, calmer, more peaceful.
Whether you ask us to tell us about the city, there is one mentioned, let’s get it to our Munich travel article right away;
