Taksim Square is one of the spots that best reflects the mosaic of Istanbul.
The square is not alone with crowds of people at all hours of the day.. The day, which starts with the rising of the sun and with people trying to get to work, is noisy with bagel sellers, seagulls, trams, taxis and buses.
While the lunch hours adjust the dosage of the crowd according to the season; In the heat of summer and the unbearable cold of winter, it is possible to see partial spaces in the square.. The busiest times of the square are summer and spring evenings; Especially if it’s Saturday, it’s another day…
Despite the crowd on Saturday, I wanted to say goodbye to my friend’s insistence and say goodbye to the square.. It could be a good excuse to feed my hungry stomach with wet hamburgers.
While trying to cross the traffic lights in front of the florists lined up on the square, walking parallel to the street saying there is still a green light for pedestrians.
When we came to the crosswalk in front of McDonalds, the green light was on for pedestrians.
The fact that the surrounding lights were not clearly illuminating meant that people could not see each other from afar.
While we are heading towards the square, we see him with his black beret, whose face is invisible, and who shouts at a mechanical device in his hand; The marauding-looking man, who tried to control the old man standing in front of him with his eyes, fueled our sense of fear.
As we were trying to get away from these two men as soon as possible, we heard the bruised man’s shrieks of “youthfulleeeeeryoungleeeerrrr come here”.
We kept walking away saying he must be selling something. As the high-pitched “youngleeeeer” voice increased, the word “stop police” was heard. He was also doing an ID check on the old man standing in front of him.
What would your reaction be if a man with an invisible face shouted at you in the middle of the street, especially out of sight? I try to get away from him, fearing for my name and thinking that he may be harmed; And that’s what I did anyway.
The words “stop police”, followed by the long shout of “youngleeeeer”, trigger negative effects in your stomach. The events that took place and the citizens terrorized by a few rotten eggs in the police force passed before my eyes.. My police phobia was increasing day by day because of what I saw on the screens.. Of course, what we saw on the screen was not the only factor in the increase of phobia.. I am one of those who advocate that the police should self-criticize in this.
It was not possible to ask the identity of the “young policeman” who thought he was the king with his indifferent cries.. The courage in the image to ask for an ID was getting on my nerves.
The 2 civilians waiting in the back read our names and returned our ID numbers after questioning our ID numbers on the electronic device in their hands.
While our numbers were being questioned, it was chosen as if choosing a chicken from a coop. Citizens were lined up in a single line and lined up in a row.
I wish you to stay away from the well-known policemen who lowered the police force to sea level in the eyes of the public.
It is possible in every profession to be a royalist rather than a king!
Bottom Note: The 3 person plainclothes police team was busy with these actions around Taksim Square around 21:00 on 17 January 2009.. It is announced to those concerned.
