There was a story that caught my attention during our visit to Batumi within the scope of Boomerang Experience days.. Ali and Nino is a love story written by Kurban Said, which could take the throne of Romeo and Juliet.
The Story of Ali and Nino
“Asia and Europe, Islam and Christianity, East and West live together but face to face in Baku on the shore of the Caspian Sea..
Ali Han Şirvanşir, who is facing the East, and Nino Kipiani, who has a European sensibility, fall in love with each other during their school years.
To keep this impossible love alive is as difficult as removing the border between East and West. During the First World War and the Russian Revolution, in this chaotic environment where Azerbaijan is also fighting for independence, Ali has to choose between the beliefs of his Asian ancestors and his loyalty to Nino.” *
After graduating from high school, Ali proposes to Nino. Ali hesitates until he promises Nino that he doesn’t have to wear a veil or be part of the harem.. Ali’s father supports marriage, despite the traditional Muslim view of women; Nino’s father tries to postpone the marriage.
After marriage, troubles haunt Ali and Nino.. Their lives are spent in constant escaping and chasing.. Just when they say they have found peace, when the Red Army entered Azerbaijan, Ali went to war to defend his country and died there.
Tamar Kvesitadze interpreted this magnificent story with the statue of Ali and Nino.. A constantly moving male and female body separates again every 10 minutes. It looks much nicer at night with sculptural lights. You should definitely visit it when you go to Batumi. I recommend you to sit on a bench while watching the statue, turn on romantic music and keep your napkin with you.. Was it too dramatic?
Don’t forget to write to me how you feel when you go…
lovers’ reunion and separation gradually
