So click here to see the hotels in Prague city center, their prices and guest reviews and make a reservation on booking.com.
Places To Visit in Prague
Places to visit in Prague I divided the list into two as the right and left sides of the Vltava River and I wrote the points on both in order according to their positions. Since most of them are close to each other, you can of course change their order.. As I just said, there is a big list on both sides, I guess I couldn’t fit more beauty in that much space
OLD TOWN AND ITS SURROUNDINGS (RIGHT SIDE OF THE RIVER)
Old Town Square (Old Town Square) *
The original name is Staroměstské náměstí and has a history of 12. The square, which dates back to the 16th century, is among the most beautiful historical squares you can see in Europe.. Since the Old Town Square is the place you see most in the photos of your friends going to Prague, this should be your first stop among Prague’s landmarks.
The buildings smelling of history all around you, the famous astronomical clock that has become the symbol of Prague, the statue in the middle and street artists around, you are surprised where to look in the Old Town Square and You don’t understand how time flies.
Let’s look at the must-see places in Prague’s Old Town Square so that you can spend your time in the square efficiently and not miss important things.
Astronomical Clock *
The most interesting thing in Prague’s magnificent old town square is the astronomical clock (Pražský orloj). The clock made in 1410 is the oldest still working clock in the world.. Some parts of it have been repaired or altered in accordance with their originality due to both wear and tear and the bombings of the Second World War.
You may have heard that there is an “astronomical clock show” every hour during the day and tourists gather around and watch it. =”text-align: justify;”>The watch face looks very messy because it shows many things at once, such as earth’s orbital movements, sunrise, sunset etc.. The small dial with the zodiac signs rotates on the large dial made of different colors such as blue and black, and the watch works in that way.. For example, when it is evening, the small dial seems to be above the black zone, that is, at night.
The position of the golden hand on the roman numerals indicates the local time, where the sun marker is located, which sign the sun is on, and where the moon marker is again the position of the moon in orbit and its phase such as full moon/new moon.
The Figures on the Astronomical Clock and Their Meanings
Let’s look at the two figures on each side of the clock, now in your head What was the “astronomical clock show” will gradually take shape. When you look from the front, one of the ones on the left has a mirror in his hand; speaks of arrogance and arrogance. The one next to him has a bag of gold in his hand; describes greed and greed. When we turn to the right, someone is holding a musical instrument, he is describing moral depravity, and it is said to be an Ottoman figure (it was unfortunate, of course, that depravity was explained with the Ottoman). In other words, there are three figures for the three basic personality traits that were considered bad and despised at the time the watch was made – and still today.
The fourth figure, the skeleton, symbolizes death as you can imagine.. At the beginning of every hour, when the show of the astronomical clock starts, a bell sounds and you see the bell in the skeleton’s hand.. The three figures I have described symbolizing worldly pleasures, on the other hand, state that they are ‘not ready’ for this call of death by shaking their heads.. I think there is a meaning like “No matter how bad you are, death will come and take you one day and what you do won’t do you any good”, but it’s my personal opinion
Those who pass through the windows that open when our skeleton starts ringing its bell are the Prophet’s mission to spread Christianity.. There are 12 apostles commissioned by Jesus. It’s called the Walk of the Apostles, I took the photo above during the show, showing the full clock, and we see the apostles passing through the windows.. The appearance of each and the things it carries, such as the cross, sword, key, etc., have meaning.. These windows are closed when there’s no show. The majestic rooster shining brightly on the top symbolizes life.. The lower dial without a clock is a calendar.
This is the story of the Prague astronomical clock, must see in Prague I didn’t want to pass off the clock, which took the first place, as “shows are taking place every hour.” Please do not forget to pay special attention. In Prague, thefts can occur in crowded areas such as the old town square, and as you can imagine, the moments when the owners look at a completely different place with attention are a blessing for pickpockets.. If you take the precaution because “Things like that don’t happen in Europe,” you may regret later.
The building where the clock is located is also Old Town Hall (Old Town Hall) it happens and for 250 Czk (approximately 10 Euros) you can both tour inside and climb the 70 meter high tower called Old Town Hall Tower. This tower is the tower on which the astronomical clock is located.
The Church of Our Lady Before Tyn (Tyn Church) *
After examining the astronomical clock, when you turn your head to the right, you will see the Tyn Church, the most impressive building in Old Town Square with its two 80-meter towers and 8 small spirals around each tower.. made 14. Tyn Church, which has been one of the most important churches in Prague since the 19th century, has a gothic architecture and was later decorated in a Baroque style.
Tyn church entrance fee works on a voluntary basis, equivalent to 1.5 Euros. Czech crowns are considered normal.. Even if you don’t go inside, you should know what this building is, which beautifies your photos in the old town square, and examine the state-of-the-art building.
Classical music concerts are held because of the acoustics of Tyn church and the historical organ inside, which will attract your attention. If so, search for Tyn church concerts to see if there is a concert that coincides with the date you go and how much the ticket costs.
Look down from the towers of the church. When you download it, the sympathetic building in pink tones on the left National Gallery of Prague). It is toured with a ticket.
Jan Hus Monument *
Since we learned about the most striking buildings in the square, let’s take a look at the huge monument in the middle.. Jan Hus, one of the most well-known figures in Czech society, was a theologian and priest born in 1370.. He reached out to large audiences by saying that reforms were essential due to the corruption in the Christian church and the clergy’s fondness for money.. He started to give his sermons in Czech language, which the people could understand, instead of Latin. .
The execution of Jan Hus, who is considered a national hero, caused confusion in the country and started the wars called the Hussite War.. 500 of the execution of Jan Hus.. In the Jan Hus Monument, which was built in 1915, he stands upright and gives the message “Whatever happens to you, continue with what you think is right”.. The devastated people around him are his followers, who were harmed in the Hussite War and then forced to leave the country.
If you’re full of history in Old Town Square, you can stop by the Prague Hard Rock Cafe right there to take a breather.. Since it was the time when I was hungry, I sat down and ate one of my favorite legendary burgers.
Sex Machines Museum
When you walk for a few minutes around the astronomical clock or the Hard Rock Cafe, you will come to a place that will definitely catch your attention with its red walls and huge gold embroidered armchair.. It says ‘love tester’ on the top of the seat and measures how hot the person sitting is while making love
If you come across a moment with young tourists and the seat is “wild” to you or a “burning” lesson, applause, etc. a fun environment. Every time I went to Prague, I used to sit on the sofa once, but the last time I went to Prague, I realized that it was a museum by asking what the building was.
This is the only museum in the world dedicated to sex machines. Those over the age of 18 can enter and the entrance fee is 250 Czk (approximately 10 Euros).. I entered out of curiosity, it’s a huge 3-storey 600 m2 place and it feels as if you were living a few centuries ago and came to a sex shop.. Wooden vibrators, metal pleasure devices, designs that will delight different parts of the body, sexy underwear, erotic sculptures etc. and you decide according to your curiosity. It’s free to sit on the chair so do it anyway
Head of Franz Kafka
After walking 500 meters from the sex machines museum, 11 meters high You arrive at a metallic head sculpture made up of 42 rotating panels. Franz Kafka, a novelist and short story writer who lived in Prague between 1883 and 1924, was 20.. Raised in a Bohemian and German-speaking Jewish family, Kafka is at a young age. died of tuberculosis and had no major success while alive. He gained fame thanks to his works published after his death.
Václavské náměstí (Wenceslas Square – Wenceslas Square) *
Wenceslas Square, which is also a few minutes’ walk from the head statue of Franz Kafka, is the two most important and crowded squares in Prague, together with the Old Town Square, which I explained at the beginning of the article.. The square, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List, has continued to be an important point where many important events, shows and celebrations are held throughout the history from the Kingdom of Bohemia to the Czech Republic.
Vaclav Along the square, you will find everything you can think of, such as shops, cafes, restaurants, bars, nightclubs.. Navigate and hang out as you please.
If you say, “Let me be very close to the touristic places but not in the middle of that chaos, and lively streets close to me”, it’s good to stay near Wenceslas Square there will be a choice. Click here to see the hotels, prices and guest reviews and make a reservation on booking.com.
The equestrian statue of King Wenceslas, the patron saint of Bohemia, who is the father of the square, is located at one end of the square and behind it is the National Museum.
Národní Muzeum (The National Museum)
The National Museum, located at the end of Wenceslas Square, is the largest museum in Czechia with a complex of old and new buildings.. I vaguely remember my first visit to Prague in 2008, and I couldn’t take good pictures.. But inside, there are countless works such as sculptures and paintings.
The entrance fee to the National Museum is 200 Czk (7.5 Euro) and 9 museums can be visited with the same ticket, so we can say that the price is affordable. If you like, you can check the ticket details and where they are valid on the website.
Tančící dum (Dancing House – Dancing House)
Tančící dum
strong>
Since we are not committed to walking everywhere, Dancing House, which is a little out of the way of Prague attractions, is 10-minute drive from Wenceslas Square. We can arrive in a 15-minute metro or tram ride (1.5 km walking distance). If you are arriving from another point, the Karlovo náměstí stop of the metro line B (yellow) or the Palackého náměstí stop at the intersection of many tram lines may be the closest place to get off.
Push the middle on Instagram or punching “I’m in Prague!” Famous for its pose, the building, which is among the the most interesting buildings in the world, was actually built by an insurance company of Dutch origin and was not liked by the locals of Prague before because it was not suitable for the historical texture of the city.. Later, when it attracted the attention of tourists, the criticism decreased.. I think they beat the city that doesn’t have such a ‘unpopular building because it doesn’t fit the historical texture’ story in Europe. Paris’s Eiffel Tower, Rome’s Vittorio Emanuele Monument and Barcelona’s Torre Agbar were the first ones that came to my mind
You can visit the art gallery with a ticket or go to the restaurant on the terrace with a view, but it was enough to give me classic poses.
If you love cats, immediately come to the Dancing House. You can visit Cat Cafe Prague across the street.. It will make your trip to Prague even more enjoyable by playing with 7-8 cats and playing board games in the cafe where you can pay around 5 Euros per hour and buy drinks and snacks.
More Since there are many places to tell, I will not write each one individually, but on the side of the Vltava River in Prague, which I have described so far, the Klementinum, Apple Museum (with Apple products and Steve Jobs’ There are also places to see, such as the Beer Museum, Lego Museum, all of which are within walking distance of each other.. I recommend you to search according to your area of interest.
Prague nightlife if you are interested, it is the biggest nightclub in Central Europe with 5 floors and every floor. Karlovy Lazne nightclub that plays different music and also has an ice bar is located here. I would recommend it to those who love to party, as I went on two separate trips and had a lot of fun in both.
I now continue with the bridge, which is the most famous thing with the astronomical clock in Prague. Crossing our famous bridge, we will reach Prague on the other side of the Vltava River.
PRAGUE CASTLE AND SURROUNDINGS (LEFT SIDE OF THE RIVER)
While walking from the Old Town square to the Charles Bridge, first stop by the cafe/patisserie named Good Food Chimney Cake on your way to Prague’s famous dessert. I recommend you buy Trdelnik. Do not forget to ask for the most famous and very delicious Trdelnik dessert, which is sold everywhere in Prague, and the hot ones.. Trdelnik dessert prices with ice cream or cream in it are between 120 – 170 Czk (4.5 – 6.5 Euros).
You’ll reach the bridge a little later, but let’s start with the tower that welcomes us as we cross the bridge.
Old Town Bridge Tower *
Old Town Bridge that you will see before crossing Charles Bridge Tower is like a part of the bridge that it hides behind, heralding its beauty.. In the same way as the bridge, it was built by king Charles IV in 14. It was built in the century and is famous for being one of the most outstanding examples of Gothic architecture in Europe.. At the time it was built, it was used for purposes such as protecting the old town area from possible attacks, that is, as a city gate.
You can get to the top after 138 steps by buying a ticket for 100 Czk (4 Euro). I didn’t do it, I’m sure the view is beautiful if you want to do it.
Charles Bridge (Charles Bridge) *
The historical buildings with pointed towers extending from every corner of Prague are also When the statues lined up on both sides of the Charles Bridge are added, you can travel back 500 years and understand why Prague is such a popular city.. The Charles Bridge, which is overflowing with crowds at all hours of the day, is captivating both itself and the city views on both sides.
The 516 m long and 10 m wide bridge is only open to pedestrian traffic. Since it is open, you can saunter around like everyone else, check out the Prague pictures and souvenirs on both sides, listen to the musicians, take lots of pictures and be taken in.. If you manage to be on the Charles Bridge at sunset on a clear summer day, a legendary image is created with the last lights of the day hitting Prague Castle.. Listening to Vivaldi’s Four Seasons played by the musician right next to me while watching the orange-red color riot was one of my most memorable moments in Prague.
