I loved
Sihanoukville. In fact, it is very difficult to establish a typical Asian city sentence for this city.. The part that we can call the center consists entirely of hotels and restaurants.. Serendipity and Ochheuteal beaches are also surrounded by bars and restaurants.. When you look at the streets, you think you are in a western city.. You see white people everywhere, except restaurant and hotel workers and motorcyclists waiting for customers on the road.. While some of them are travelers or tourists like me, the majority are Europeans living here.
After staying in the center of Sihanoukville for 2 days, I moved to a place called Victory Hill.. This was a place with a magnificent view, set on a high hill of the city.. Both the hotels here were newer and cheaper, but also in a quieter and more scenic location.. While there are hotels of different quality at the top of the hill, bars are lined up on a small street right next to it.
Also called Backpacker Hill, this place is a small corner of KhaoSan Road in Bangkok. like like. Some bars and pubs are open 24 hours. They start serving breakfast after 7 am.. Cambodians call it Poom Barang (Foreigner Hill), meaning foreigners’ hill.. Except for motorcyclists, they don’t understand what you mean when you say Victory Hill.
Almost all of the beautifully decorated, modern and spacious bars are owned by whites.. Almost all the workers in the bars are girls.. In bars where draft beer is $1, while you drink your beer, the girls come to sit next to you and start chatting with you.. Compared to Thailand, the ones here are less jaded, their aim is not to market themselves but to get you to drink more beer. No one bothers you when you say you don’t want to be disturbed or when you take your computer and sit down. Many also have pool tables.. These places, which are nice and quiet for lazing around during the day, can become more crowded and noisy at night.
There is Victory Hill Beach at the end of the road going down from Victory Hill.. The beach on this west side of the city is calmer than other beaches. The sandy area is narrower than the others.. Airport Disco near this beach is very popular with young people.. You can look at a real Russian made AN-24 plane and sip your $1 beer. The beach bar of the disco, which opens at 9 am, is open throughout the day.. You can smoke pizza for $5 and hookah for $10..
When I am in Sihanoukville, there is a rain starting at 10 o’clock during the day, it starts at the same time almost every day.. Maybe I witnessed the craziest rains in my life here. I’m staying at an Australian owned hotel called All Nations. The hotel is one of the tallest buildings here and has a terrace with stunning views.. I can watch the sea while having my breakfast on the one hand.
Everywhere is green.. It’s different to feel the rain from this height. It’s enjoyable to watch the raindrops flow like strings on this landscape.. So much so that the view becomes invisible due to heavy rain.. What a terrible rain. Neither the videos I took nor the photos I took are enough to capture the intensity of the rain.
After the rain, after a while, everything is dry and sparkling as if it had never rained.. Sunsets, on the other hand, are beautiful that should be explained separately.. As the sun begins to descend on the sea in the distance, the same redness reflected in the sky begins to reflect on the sea.. Earth is iron, sky is copper, sea is gold. Every evening, the same beautiful view is underfoot on Victory Hill.
With my laptop in front of me while I am working on the blog, it is enough for me to watch this view every day on my high stool table with my coffee in hand.
