My first encounter with the Adriatic coast was when a very close friend of mine bought himself a ticket to Dubrovnik and later went to Montenegro and posted the beautiful photos he took here on his fashion blog at the time.. Since I trust Cansu so much, I started my research by saying that he knows something; This is how I met this completely different face of Europe, exactly 5 years ago.. Since that day, Okan and I have been chasing affordable tickets to see both Croatia and Montenegro at every possible moment, and finally, we saw the extreme economic campaign that appeared in THY’s ‘Discover’ section this year, and bought the tickets with our miles, our sister blog @yoldabiblog Asya and we wrote to Umut.
We knew that Yoldabiblog, which we visited together in Munich last time, wanted to take the same route.. So it wasn’t hard to convince them either.. Plans were made over Whatsapp, routes were drawn; With one blog coming from Istanbul and another from Munich, we were now ready to meet in Dubrovnik and visit both here and Montenegro! Unlike the Asians, they will go before us and we will only have 1.5 days in Dubrovnik. For this reason, we had to prepare very well before we set off and do everything in Dubrovnik in 1.5 days and give it its due.. Apart from Dubrovnik’s surprises that shocked us from every angle, we actually traveled quite well in this short time.. Well, as a result, as the people’s blog Journavel, we are proud to present our cheapest Dubrovnik Attractions article, one of the cheapest – you know what we mean.
INFORMATION ABOUT DUBROVNIK
Dubrovnik on the Adriatic coast; With its natural beauties, historical texture and deep blue coasts, One of the most popular and touristic cities of Croatia. It is not surprising that it is so; Dubrovnik is unlike any other city in Europe with its Old Town streets that transport people to a historical moment, well-preserved Gothic and Baroque buildings that shine under the sun, nostalgic stone houses and Azure blue shores.
Dubrovnik, which has always been very important strategically due to its location and being a port city, is known as Ragusa in ancient sources.. Dubrovnik, which was connected to the Ottoman Empire with port taxes until the Napoleonic occupation, is actually the state we see today.. established in the century. However; this establishment does not reflect a fully separate and independent state either.. Because, when the city could not resist the Napoleonic occupation after the Ottoman Empire, it was officially included in the sovereignty of the Austrian Empire in 1815 and then within the borders of the Yugoslavian state.. Until 1991.
Croatia; Although it is one of the 6 countries that emerged with the disintegration of Yugoslavia as a result of the great war in 1991, it is necessary to wait 4 more years for peace to come to the borders.. In 1995, when Croatia gained its independence, a period of renovation begins for Dubrovnik, which will heal the wounds of war.. The renovation and restoration process of Dubrovnik, which has been under the protection of UNESCO since 1979, and the war wounds it suffered in the 1990s, was carried out together with the UNESCO Committee.. In this way, we are now facing a Dubrovnik that welcomes its visitors with a clean and completely different face and shining.. Dubrovnik, the Pearl of the Adriatic, is undoubtedly the most important tourism value of Croatia and one of the most magnificent routes of the Mediterranean, with its unique beauties on the Dalmatian coast.
DUBROVNIK AND GAME OF THRONES
Dubrovnik owes its current reputation partly to the Game of Thrones series, which is very popular all over the world and followed by millions.. Dubrovnik, one of the filming locations of Game of Thrones, has been invaded by American and British tourists after the series.. Of course, this demand is reflected in every part of the city, from the places to visit, to the accounts payable at the places.. Dubrovnik’s hosting of King’s Landing creates a distinct Game of Thrones tourism in the city, like Cumalıkızık in Bursa or Asmalı Konak in Cappadocia.. You see, for some, it was the Adriatic, Croatia, the Middle Ages, the Game of Thrones tours are amazing.. People come here from thousands of miles just to see the Jesuit Stairs, where the ‘Walk of Shame’ scene was filmed, or the Lovrijenac Walls, where the Red Fort scenes were filmed.

WHAT DUBROVNIK, HOW TO GET TO DUBROVNIK
Slovenia, Hungary, Dubrovnik, a port city on the Adriatic coast of Croatia, neighboring Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, is located in the south of the country.
Turkey’ To go to Dubrovnik from You can take a look at Turkish Airlines flights departing from Istanbul. Istanbul flights take place early in the morning and take 1 hour due to the time difference.. You may come across campaigns in some periods on THY’s Dubrovnik and Kotor flights.. For this we recommend that you check the ‘Discover’ section often.
Is DUBROVNIK EXPENSIVE, DUBROVNIK CURRENCY
Croatian Kuna is the currency of Croatia and therefore Dubrovnik. 1 kuna is equivalent to about 80 cents. Even though the currencies seem a little worthless when viewed from here, the problem is that while you can buy a bottle of water for 1 TL in Turkey, you can’t buy anything for 1 Kuna in Dubrovnik.
Is Dubrovnik expensive, our answer is absolutely and definitely TOO expensive. It is also possible to say that Dubrovnik, which left our happiness in our crop with its expensiveness the moment we set foot in the city center, is not a suitable city for economical travelers in this respect.. Even though we searched a zillion places before we arrived and said we’d eat here and drink here, I can’t even describe the stage of disappointment that started with us inspecting the menus in front of their restaurants.. We will say that Dubrovnik is one of the most expensive cities we have ever visited.. In fact, its expensiveness is proven by the authorities all over the world, Paris and Stockholm are not comparable.
Another downside is that it is in the Old Town area very few street food or fast food options. While we are visiting expensive cities, we usually solve our meals on the street, on our feet.. Or, as a classic move, we teleport ourselves to McDonald’s. However, since Dubrovnik does not offer an option in this sense and chains such as McDonald’s are embargoed in the country, the only cheap food you can eat is pasta bars.. Shopping at the market is also an option, but it doesn’t come cheap either.. For all these reasons, travel is quite expensive.
Those who make economic travel plans should be severely careful before coming here strong> we recommend. It is useful to say from the beginning; If you think that we can come to Dubrovnik, stay for 2 nights and travel comfortably for 3 days, it is obvious that this will not be possible.. Especially, if you are traveling on a budget like us, the most logical plan is to spend 1 full day or a maximum of 1.5 days and to move to Montenegro as soon as possible..
DUBROVNIK HOW MANY DAYS TO VISIT
Dubrovnik is a small city to visit quickly. We tried to see as many places as we could in 1.5 days; but if we had 2 days we would be more comfortable. Based on our experience, we can say that if you can afford it, you can travel around Dubrovnik in 3 days.
WHEN TO GO TO DUBROVNIK /strong>
Dubrovnik is a southern city, with a generally moderate climate and a very hot climate in summers.. Since there are so many touristic places, islands and coasts in the city, we do not want you to faint from the heat and crowds while visiting all these.. Therefore, in our opinion, the best months to visit Dubrovnik are May, June, September and October.
CITY FROM DUBROVNIK AIRPORT ACCESSING THE CENTER
The most economical way to get from Dubrovnik Airport to the city center Atlas shuttle to use their. You can get your tickets from the Atlas box office at the exit of the airport for the Atlas shuttle services, which are organized 20-30 minutes after each landing at the airport.. Can you pay the shuttle fee to the driver during the hours when the box office is closed?. One way round trip costs 6€, round trip costs 10€.
As a second alternative, from Dubrovnik Airport to the city center Going by taxi costs between 27€-30 during traffic-free hours. It is possible to use Uber as well as taxi.. For example; After visiting Dubrovnik, we went to Montenegro to pick up the car we rented from the airport with Uber.. Transportation from Old Town center to Dubrovnik airport cost 30 Euros with Uber.
CAR HIRE IN DUBROVNIK
This trip we visited Dubrovnik and Montenegro’ We had to rent a car from Dubrovnik as it was on a ‘road trip’ theme consisting of. During the trip, we handed this job over to Asya and Umut, who currently live in Munich and have a great command of car rental in Europe.
However, let’s summarize the process; First of all, we chose our rental car in Dubrovnik on rentalcars.com long before we left.. Choosing one of Seat’s economic vehicles among the results we have achieved, we have paid a total of 115 Euros for 3 days by notifying Umut and Okan as our drivers.. This 115 Euro includes a car rental of 50 Euros, an additional driver’s fee of 25 Euros and a border fee of 40 Euros.. Since we were going to change countries during the contract and Montenegro is not located in the Schengen area, we easily solved our car rental business by requesting a country change document.
Car rental issue is completely It was about us going to Montenegro by road.. Otherwise, both Dubrovnik is already a completely walkable city and parking fees are very very expensive like everything else in Dubrovnik There is no need to rent a car here because it is strong>.

LIST OF PLACES TO SEE IN DUBROVNIK
#1 Dubrovnik Old Town:
Dubrovnik Old Town, which is under UNESCO protection, is considered one of the regions that best reflect the medieval texture as a result of the restoration and renovation works carried out in cooperation with the UNESCO committee.. This is the first place you should come in Dubrovnik.. Old Town, a small center surrounded by Dubrovnik city walls; It gathers the main architectures and historical buildings of Dubrovnik, especially Stradun Street.. Apart from the overcrowding and the people coming from every corner at any time, the best thing about Dubrovnik Old Town is the cleanliness of the white streets decorated with stone houses and the shining of the streets under the sunlight.
After arriving at the center to explore the beauties of the Old Town one by one, we recommend you to take a walk in the area between Pile Gate and Ploce Gate.. If you are fond of taking pictures, you should definitely do it very early in the morning.
While visiting the buildings in the Old Town, you will see many cafes and restaurants on both sides.. I hope you have never thought of doing touristic moves and sitting in ‘cool’ places in the middle of the street.. Because these places can be literally defined as ‘market’ and when paying the bill, you may not only have to leave your wallet, but also all of your credit cards, your car’s license, your unborn child’s sustenance, etc. to the restaurant.. Tell us.
Finally, I would like to add that Dubrovnik Old Town is closed to traffic and move on to the points you can see here.. You can explore the area completely on foot; but since the side streets are vertical and have lots of stairs, you must wear comfortable shoes.
List of Places to Visit in Dubrovnik Old Town:
City Waters: The Old Town city walls and Lovrijenac city walls take the lead.
Squares: Stradun Square, Gundulic Square, Luza Square.
Palaces: Sponza Palace , Palace of Knezev Dvor.
Churches: Dubrovnik Cathedral, Saint Savior Church, Sveti Vlaho Church.
Monasteries: Franciscan Monastery, Dominican Monastery.
Historical Buildings: Bell Tower, Great Onofrio Fountain, Orlando Monument, Jesuit Stairs
#2 Stradun Street:
What Las Ramblas is to Barcelona, Stradun Street is to Dubrovnik. It is possible to see many historical buildings among the places to visit in the Old Town on the Stradun, which is the main street of the city.. This is also where ceremonies, events and festivals take place.
Our favorite thing on Stradun Street; he had narrow streets positioned to cut himself on his right and left. You know, if you get sick of the crowd on Stradun Street and think about where to go, dive into the side streets without wasting any time.. Tour groups who can’t climb the stairs often pile up on the street, for sure.
Besides all this, Stradun is actually the most lively place in the city.. It doesn’t matter day or night. Shortly after we took to the streets at 7am to take pictures, we saw that Dubrovnik loves action.
As we mentioned in the Old Town title, you can enter Stradun Street via Pile Gate and enter. You end with the Plot Gate. If you continue walking from Ploce Gate, you will arrive at the old city port.. Daily boat tours from Dubrovnik depart from this port; but that’s the subject of another topic of course.
List of Places to Visit While Walking on Stradun Street:
in order from Pile Gate; St.. Savior Cathedral, Onofrio Great Fountain, Franciscan Convent, Catholic Church, Onofrio the second Fountain, Orlando Monument, Bell Tower, Sponza Palace, Dominican Convent, Ploce Gate, Old Town Harbor.
#3 Dubrovnik City Walls:
When we were describing Dubrovnik, we added that it is always a strategic point because it is a port city, and that its neighbors are always on top of it.. As you know, medieval cities are usually located inside the city walls.. The reason for this is to protect the city from invasion and occupation.. The city walls, which were once built for military and defensive purposes in Dubrovnik, are now one of the main tourist attractions of the city, open to visitors.
Dubrovnik city walls to visit 150 Kuna / 21 Euros per person, the walls can be visited between 8.30-19.30. Once you enter the walls, you do not have to finish the whole thing, which takes a long time and you can exit through the intermediate doors that you will see as you progress.. Your ticket costs 21 Euros, but if you visit the Lovrijenac Walls first there is a discount on the city walls, you pay 14 Euros.
Before we came, we learned that we had to visit this place when it opened in the morning with the tips we got from Asians.. Because, as the hour progresses, it becomes difficult for him to walk, walk and take pictures due to the crowd.. As this was the case, the tour of the city walls did not fit into our schedule after we arrived at the city at 9.30 am.. It was going to be past 10.30 when we left the stuff and I’m sorry, but what’s the point of paying 21 Euros per person just because I’m going to see two rooftop views? We preferred to go to Lokrum Island instead, we will explain the reasons separately under the title of Lokrum Island.. As a result, we did not feel any shortcoming by not going; If you go, we leave the photo of our sister blog @yoldabiblog below for the Dubrovnik view with abundant orange roof you will see.
#4 Lovrijenac Castle and Lovrijenac Walls:
The first sight you will see when you type Dubrovnik on Google is Lovrijenac walls. This is the main filming location of Game of Thrones and our favorite place in all of Dubrovnik. With its historical texture, Adriatic coast and abundant greenery, Lovrijenac is one of the places to see in the city.. 11th. Lovrijenac Castle, which was first tried to be built in the same place by the Venetians in the 19th century and was built by the Ragusans in 3 months shortly after that, also offers wonderful views with its location 37 meters above sea level.. Another feature of Lovrijenac is that the theater inside hosts important plays, performances and festivals.
Entry 50 Kuna, easy method 8 Euros.
#5 Dubrovnik Cable Car:
As the world’s most pointless tourist activity, take the Dubrovnik Cable Car here I guess we wouldn’t have added. The purpose is to watch the city from above; but when it’s inside the cabin, it doesn’t make much sense to us.. You take your photos with glass effect, after all.. So of course we didn’t do anything like that.. If you are interested, 150 Kuna / 21 Euros per person.
#6 Lokrum Island:
This is another favorite of ours.. Lokrum Island, which is uninhabited and can be reached in a short time like 15 minutes by boats departing from the old city port that you will come across after passing through Ploce Gate, should definitely be on the travel list of those who come to Dubrovnik in mild weather and summer season. Our goal to come to Lokrum Island was to see its natural beauties and shores and have a picnic in the park areas of the island.. If that sounds good, get your picnic supplies from a market and get on the boat before you go to the old port.. You can swim from anywhere on the island, so don’t forget to put on your swimsuit and put your sea shoes in your bag.
There are a few points to visit on the island, and when you start walking from the port where you dock, the signboard arrows that you will see will direct you.. Among them, we recommend that you do not miss the dead sea named Deadsea. Other details that will make your trip beautiful at the rock formations around Deadsea. If your shoes are suitable, you can take a photo tour around these cliffs.. If you come with cheap, high-heeled shoes like me, keep in mind the possibility of ruining your shoes..
You can stop by Snack Bar Lacroma while you finish your cruise on Lokrum Island and wait for your return boat. We saw that we have to wait a little for our boat, we thought, albeit a little afraid, let’s take a break in this bar and have a drink.. However, it turned out to be a very suitable venue.. By the way, their cocktails are also quite delicious.
Crossing from Dubrovnik to Lokrum Island is again 150 Kuna / 21 Euros. When we think of all the activities in the city for 21 Euros, we say that we are glad we came here.. To go to Lokrum Island, you must have arrived in Dubrovnik in a warm and beautiful period; because in autumn and winter boats don’t depart, and on rainy days the cruises are cancelled.
DAY BOAT TOURS FROM DUBROVNIK
After seeing the attractions on your Dubrovnik trip -if you still have time- you can spend the rest of your time on the isles close to Dubrovnik. We preferred Lokrum Island; If you say what else there is, let’s add that daily boats or boats depart from the new port Gruz Harbour to all of the islands below.
#1 Lopud Island:
Lopud Island, which is famous for its beaches unlike Lokrum Island, is a favorite of Dubrovniks in summer one of the escape points. Medieval texture is with you again while you are visiting Lopud, one of the Elaphiti Islands.. Here you can also visit the Franciscan Monastery and the church of Our Lady of Sunj.. It takes 45 minutes from Dubrovnik port to Lopud Island.
#2 Mljet Island:
One of the biggest islands of Southern Croatia, Mljet, is one of the places where you can go from Dubrovnik and spend the whole day. On your trip to Mljet Island, don’t forget to see the two salt lakes called Great and Small, the Benedictine Abbey and the beach right next to it.. After the tour, we recommend you to sit in a place that is sweet to your eyes and taste the island’s special red wine and goat cheese.. It takes 50 minutes to reach Mljet Island from Dubrovnik.
#3 Korcula Island:
Marco Polo’s home, the sixth largest island of the Adriatic Korcula, another Dubrovnik island where you can visit with its beaches and historical texture. Like Mljet, you can visit the vineyards and taste local wines here.
#4 Sipan Island:
Sipan, the largest of the Elaphiti Islands and the summer residence of wealthy Dubrovniks. Since it is not an island that is preferred by tourists very often, you can visit like a local and enjoy the beach comfortably.. If you come to Sipan Island, add Sipanska Luka and Sudurad villages to your itinerary.. Medieval texture dominates here too. It takes about 1 hour to arrive from Dubrovnik.
WHAT TO EAT IN DUBROVNIK: DUBROVNIK FOOD AND DRINK RECOMMENDATIONS
Because Dubrovnik broke our hearts with its exorbitant cost, we prepared a meal before we came. we couldn’t go to most of the eating places list; but we wanted to share our notes with you because we paid special attention to this issue and researched it a lot:
What to Eat in Dubrovnik: Dubrovnik Food and Drink Tips
WHERE TO STAY IN DUBROVNIK
Our ‘old town’ district for accommodation in Dubrovnik. Although the streets that run parallel to the hill in the city center are a bit tiring with their stairs, it is perfect to feel Dubrovnik completely.. Most of the houses on these streets already serve as hostels or apartments.. The rooms of the houses, which are usually 2-3 floors, can be rented as apartments.. We made our reservation via Booking.com for one night 70€. We leave the link of our hostel here.
Many of the same houses can be rented through airbnb.. here we leave our membership link providing 130 TL discount for those staying with Airbnb for the first time. While you book with a discount, we earn credits, so we travel economically together.
If you have time to book early, of course, you can find more economical options; but let’s add that you can’t solve it very cheaply as the old town is the most popular part of the city.
