Munich, Germany, where I have lived since the beginning of 2016 and is the capital of the Bavarian state of Germany It should definitely be their first stop for anyone planning a trip or a real Oktoberfest experience.. In this article, I will provide you with both the hotels I recommend and the hotels I recommend, such as Munich transportation, hotels close to Oktoberfest, Munich cheap hotels, etc. You will find the Munich accommodation guide, where I tell you what to consider when choosing a hotel. Since I am a native of Munich for a while, so I know the city well, I hope that the information I have given will be of use to you
How to Get to Munich
From Turkey to Munich fortunately there are too many direct flights. Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa are the most frequent flyer companies.. Apart from that, Pegasus can also offer cheaper flight tickets even though it is midday, and those who say it doesn’t matter the time can look at it.
There is only one airport in Munich.. Munich Airport (Franz Josef Strauss Airport – MUC) consists of two terminals. Terminal 1 used by Turkish Airlines is closer to public transportation, you are walking more than Terminal 2 used by Lufthansa.
When you get off, head towards the exit and after a while follow the green S signs that appear. Anyone who has been to any city in Germany knows; commuter train is S-bahn and subway is U-bahn, so is the Munich subway.
How to Get to Oktoberfest
The most convenient way to go to the festival area is to use public transport. You can reach the area by following the crowd after getting off at the Theresienwiese by one of the (U-Bahn) U4 or U5 lines, or by the suburban train (S-Bahn) at the Hackerbrücke stop.. You can get off the tram at the Hermann-Lingg-Strasse stop of lines 18 or 19.
Where to Stay in Munich?
We have come to one of the most critical issues. Munich is a very expensive city, especially in terms of accommodation and transportation.. On top of that, if you come across the high season, especially during the Oktoberfest, the accommodation fees can be way over the budget.. All hotels and hostels in the city increase their prices several times during this period.
So what are we going to do? As always, making our plans early and grabbing one of the few places with a high price-performance ratio seems to be the best solution.
Munich hotels Click to view and make a reservation on booking.com.
For those who might have a hard time deciding because there are so many hotels, I’ve divided them into different criteria and listed good examples from each one below.
Walk to Oktoberfest some hotels within distance (you can think of prices as high to low, but it may vary depending on the date you choose):
Four Points by Sheraton München Central (4 stars)
Bavaria Boutique Hotel (3 stars)
Hotel Krone (3 stars)
GH HOTEL hotel & living München-City (3 stars)
Hotel Senator München (3 stars)
Hotel Seibel (3 stars)
Some hotels in the city center of Munich (Make sure to be close to the metro station, for the Munich hotels I have selected below I considered this criterion):
Hotel Exquisit (4 stars)
Hotel Concorde ( 4 stars)
Mercure Hotel München Altstadt (3 stars)
Pension Am Jakobsplatz (3 stars) star)
On the map that opens after clicking on these hotels, you can also keep the ones you like from other nearby hotels.. Good to be close to Marienplatz and Sendlinger Tor. A little above the Münchner Freiheit stop is also called the Schwabing district and is famous for being full of cafes & restaurants.. Travelers who like to eat and drink can try to stay close to it.
Slightly cheaper hotels:
Motel One München City West (3 stars)
ibis Hotel Muenchen City West (2 stars)
Pension Belo Sono (Pension)
Let’s say nothing happens; there is no room or the prices are insane so it didn’t suit you. In this case, the last resort is to choose the hotels in the east of the city.. Since the east side of Munich is a fairground, it is full of hotels for the fair, and if there is no fair, the prices do not increase as much as the hotels in the city center.. Of course, in this case, you will have to go to the center by public transport or, if it is Oktoberfest time, to Theresienwiese, where the festival is held, for about half an hour (perhaps a little more) and there will be nothing nearby in terms of must see in Munich So very limited I don’t recommend it, except for budgets or a ‘last minute’ trip, not being able to find a place in hotels.
LetoMotel München City Ost (3 stars)
Ibis Muenchen City Ost
If you are looking for a hotel a little far from the city center, you should pay attention to stay within the stops with a white background on the subway map (more than white). There may also be those who remain at the crossing borders). Because this area is called Innenraum – Inner district (Zone 1), and if you go to the green-yellow-red zones, you have to buy the increasingly more expensive public transportation ticket as Zone 2-3-4.
No worries about how to get back at night, public transport in Munich is pretty good, including at night. I have never used a taxi since the beginning of 2016 when I lived here. If it’s Oktoberfest time, since the festival starts in the early hours of the morning, everyone becomes ‘headed’ before midnight Therefore, it is highly likely that you started the return journey before the bus-tram-metro was finished.. If not, there are lots of additional festival-specific expeditions, and you’ll probably be able to come back easily.
How Long to Stay in Munich & Oktoberfest?
It would be enough to allocate 3 days for only places to visit in Munich, but I think it would be better if you make a comprehensive tour with the surrounding area.. For example, Munich might be the starting point for a route like the Romantic Road trip I took to visit the Christmas markets.. Text: Germany Before Christmas & Romantic Road
Depends on how many days you want to devote to Oktoberfest, it depends on how much you want to drink I think 2 days is enough for Oktoberfest only. But if you just stop by the festival and come back, you’d be doing Munich an injustice; because it is a beautiful city that definitely deserves to be visited. When we think about it, we can say that we can allocate 2 days to the city and say 4 days in total.. For those who say, “What am I going to do, sit in the beer tent all day, hang around and wander”, 3 days would be enough, for example, I reserved 3 days in 2014 when I came as a tourist.. Now Munich is my home of course, I can go and hang out whenever I want
Munich Metro and Munich Metro Ticket
Now that we have taken care of the flight ticket and accommodation, we are ready for a trip to Munich, let’s take a look at the city transportation.
Download the MVG Fahrinfo (with blue logo) application and (in English) I recommend you buy your ticket there. If you are going to do this, define your card in the application before you go to Munich, so that it is enough to just press the buy ticket button when you arrive.. There is wifi access at Munich Airport, you can buy your ticket when you land and take a screenshot of the ticket.. Alternatively, ticket machines or ticket offices can of course be used.. If you don’t know which of the many ticket types is right for you, it would be logical to read from the application or ask the box office.
I wrote a few points that you should pay attention to below, someone who has not really experienced this part here would not know, there is an overly complicated ticket system. I tried to choose the most important information because if I write all of them, your head will be soup.. It will also help you to download the application I mentioned and read the ticket descriptions by pressing the Buy tickets button.
– If you are buying the ticket from a place other than the application (machine or box office), that is, if it is a paper ticket, the date and you should pay attention to the clock. For those who do not write, the word ‘entwerten’ is critical; You need to insert the tickets where you see this word into the ticket reader and get a stamp on them.. Otherwise, your ticket will not be considered valid.
– Since the airport is in the farthest part of the city, you must buy a 4 Zone or entire system (the most expensive) ticket (see the outermost red one on the map above). area). If you arrive during the day, you need to buy a single ticket for the whole area (Single Ticket 4 zones and more – 11.20 Euros) if you are going to use it only to go to the city from the airport that day. ). How expensive is it, Munich is unfortunately beautiful, but it is a city that makes you pay for its beauty
– For the next days, you will get a day ticket or a single ticket again, but this time one zone will be enough (if you pay attention to what I wrote in the hotel section and stay in the white area). A daily ticket is 6.60 euros and a one-time ticket is 2.80 euros. If you go in the same direction during the validity period of a one-time ticket, you can get off and then continue unnoticed. justify;”>– If you are going to travel 4 stops or less, with a maximum of 2 stops on the rail system (U-bahn or S-bahn), it is sufficient to buy a short trip ticket (Short trip) and the fee is 1.40 Euros, do not buy a one-time ticket for double the money .
– Free if you have a child under 6 years old, child ticket if you are between 6-14 years old. The distance does not matter for a child ticket, you can buy a one-time (1.40 Euro) or a daily ticket (3.10 Euro).
– There are 3-day tickets or group ticket options for up to 5 people, be sure to read it from the app or ask. For example, if you are 4 people and you are traveling together all the time, it would be ridiculous to buy a single ticket, a group ticket would be very advantageous.
– Buy one-time tickets just before your trip because they expire. There are daily tickets, and you can buy daily tickets at the beginning of the day.
If you do not buy a ticket and are caught on any of your journeys, you have to pay a 60 Euro penalty.. If you say you definitely won’t buy it, be suspicious of people who get on the subway with a small black crossbody bag and don’t go through the door until the doors are closed, they are likely to be the controller and they will catch you soon.. Of course, unexpected people may end up next to you and ask for tickets, so I think you’d better buy them.
I hope you like my beautiful home Munich. If you are going to Munich during Oktoberfest, I recommend you to continue with my All About Oktoberfest article
