Living in Germany, Post Graduate and Answering Many Questions
It’s been 3.5 years since we moved to Germany and 2 years since we opened our blog. We try to carry everything we have learned from the journey we started in Frankfurt to today on our blog.
How to apply for a master’s degree in Europe, How to get a residence permit in Germany, As we learned, we wrote about many topics such as How to find a house in Germany, How to find a job in Germany and Living in Germany, because as we said at the beginning of the journey, the biggest Our hope is that this blog will not only teach anyone who loves to travel and explore, but also a guide that aims to learn together!
Today we take one more step towards this and live abroad or in Germany We started with a single article about the questions we frequently receive.. Subjects related to Master’s degree in Germany, such as admission to graduate, German student visa, finding a house in Germany , other than architecture in Germany, lawyer in Germany, office life in Germany and in general finding a job in Europe Here is a bouquet (or a bunch) of the most frequently asked questions about (finding a job in Germany)! ☺
1-) I want to do a master’s degree in Europe, where do I start?
Actually, there is no single answer to this question.. Namely, first you need to decide which country you want to go to.
Step two; let’s say you decide you want to do your master’s in Germany. Multiple choice questions are coming; Do you know German or English very well? If you do not know either of them very well, then the step in front of you is clear; learn someone thoroughly and prepare for a language test. All the schools you will apply to will ask you for a language certificate.
While dealing with the language issue, on the one hand, find the programs that you think meet the application requirements and that interest you, and prepare your application files so that you do not miss the application deadlines.. After receiving your language certificate (IELTS / TOEFL), you can apply and wait for the results.. It’s actually that simple! There is no need for such an agency.
We have an extremely detailed article about this here.. That’s why we don’t keep this part long.
2- What is the Grade Point Average Required for Graduate Studies in Europe?
My grade point average is X, can I be accepted to graduate school at this school in Europe?
Or as embodied in another question; My GPA is below 2.50, can I be accepted to graduate school?
Let’s answer the first question first. Yes, you can definitely be accepted to a master’s degree in Europe with a grade point average below 2.50. Because each school’s admission requirement is different.. ☺
Of course, there are some schools in Europe that require at least 3.50 GPA, but some schools, on the contrary, give importance to other things during the application process and do not look for a certain GPA.
All you have to do here is read the application and admission requirements of all the master’s programs you want to apply one by one, find out which ones require a certain grade point average, which of those who want a grade point average is your grade. you need to find that it fits your average. And a little reminder; If your GPA is a little lower than expected, you can still try your luck.
3-) How can I find a scholarship for postgraduate studies in Europe?
What we know about scholarships in Germany options frankly limited, and we’re sure there are more scholarships in Germany options than we can count here, but let’s write down what we know anyway.
Master Option in Europe with Jean Monnet Scholarship
The European Union – Jean Monnet Scholarship, which young people in Turkey benefit most and sends many young people abroad to study every year. You can find all the details about the scholarship on the website.
Master’s Option in Germany with Daad Scholarship
Another scholarship is that the German Government grants a higher education to Germany. DAAD scholarship, which is the scholarship given to international students for undergraduate studies. This scholarship is also given in Turkey through TEV. Application requirements and deadlines may change each year.. If you want to apply, you can find all kinds of information by clicking here.
Konrad – Adenauer Association Scholarship
There is also Konrad – Adenauer Association that provides scholarships in Germany, but this scholarship You must be fluent in German to apply.. You can reach the association’s page here and read the details.
How Can I Find Scholarship Schools Abroad?
Other Scholarship Opportunities for Students
Let’s talk about two sites that we constantly follow. Mladiinfo and Youthhop are two websites dedicated to the discovery of opportunities by young people, and in the scholarship section, they constantly publish up-to-date scholarship opportunities of various universities.. An unthinkable university in Denmark may have scholarship programs and you may be missing it without realizing it.. That’s it, these two sites work, and you can constantly check to see if there is a program suitable for you.. Two of our close friends applied for the scholarships they learned through Mladiinfo and are now living happily in their new country.
4-) If I first came to Germany with a language school visa, then I would Can I find a job?
Yes, within the possibilities. You can get a 6-month language school visa and go to the language school and look for a job.. But there are a couple of important points;
Small Warning for Those Who Think of Living in Germany with a Language School Visa!
If you come to Germany with a language school visa and do not attend language school, the language school will notify you of this to the foreigners’ office and your language school visa will be at risk.. Therefore, if you come with a language school visa, your attendance at the language school is a must, even if you are looking for a job.
The second one; let’s say (we hope so!) you found a job while you were attending language school, your language school visa does not automatically turn into a residence permit.. You need to return to Turkey and apply for a work visa. Only then can you return to Germany and start working.. If you’re ready for these two things, it’s okay.. ☺
5-) I want to do a master’s degree (non-field master’s degree) other than my major, is it possible?
Doing a non-field master abroad
Let’s say you have a bachelor’s degree in Turkey, but you are not satisfied with the department you are studying and you want to do your master’s degree in another field.. What will happen then?
This is obviously all about how well your undergraduate major is suitable for “non-field graduate“. While departments such as business, economics and international relations are more fortunate in this regard, ‘non-field graduate‘ may not be as suitable for numerical fields such as mechanical engineering.. For this, you need to choose the graduate department and school you want to do and look at the application conditions.. Let’s say you want to do a master’s degree in ‘global marketing’ and you go to the relevant page of Goethe University and look at the application conditions.. It says ‘business administration, finance and relevant degree graduates’ there, which means you don’t need a ‘marketing’ license to do a ‘global marketing’ master’s degree, graduates from other departments can also apply, provided they are ‘relevant’.. In short, if you are an architect who wants to study ‘global marketing’, “let’s go to another door”, but an economics graduate “come on sir!”
Let’s give an example from ourselves; normally the LL.M (Masters of Law) program is known as a graduate program that only law graduates can do. But the full name of the master’s program I did was ‘LL.M in Finance’ and finance graduates were also accepted into the program.. In other words, with this program, it was possible for a finance graduate to do a ‘Master of Law’.
In the Stadelschule Architecture Class of Umut, not only architects; Graduates from departments related to architecture such as city planning or interior architecture or landscape architecture can also apply.. Long story short, non-field master’s degree is possible.
We have an article about this and similar topics here.
6- I want to move abroad, where do I start?
6-2) Can I find a job in Germany by applying for jobs from Turkey without having a master’s degree in Germany?
Can I Apply for Jobs in Germany without Knowing German?
Unfortunately, there is no general and single answer to this question.. If you have one of the professions that are missing a lot in Germany, if you are experienced in this profession, and if you know English well, it is quite possible to find a job by applying from Turkey without a master’s degree..
What are the Most Wanted Professions in Germany?
Software engineering, computer engineering and UX/UI designers are the most needed professions in Germany.. These occupations are just an example.. Architecture is one of the most sought-after professions in Germany (questions about it are below)
For some professions, it may not be that easy.. It is unfortunately more difficult to find a job for graduates of the verbal department, for example law graduates. But not IMPOSSIBLE. If you are a graduate of the verbal department and have little work experience, you can try to come to an internship first.
If you have experience but have not been receiving a response for a while, try making changes to your CV and Motivation Letter.. Sometimes it is not that difficult to learn the programs that are highly requested in job postings.. You can learn about those programs and add them to your CV with free e-lessons by yourself.
We have prepared a detailed guide on finding a job in Europe. If you want to take a look, we leave it here.
How to do an Erasmus Internship and How to Apply for an Erasmus Internship?
If you are thinking of going abroad while you are still at the university,. You can do Erasmus Internship for warm-up purposes. Our interview about the Erasmus internship is here.
7-) My wife found a job in Germany. Can I get a visa too?
If your spouse has found a job, you apply for ‘Family Reunification in Germany, and you have the right to work in Germany with the visa you will receive at the end of it.. If you are coming from Turkey, you need to pass an A1 level German exam in order to get this visa.. You can apply to Goethe for this exam.
Can I work while studying in Europe at the same time?
Studying 120 working days a year during master’s degree you have permission. You can use it as 240 part time working days or 120 full working days.. You can work without exceeding these limits.
9-) I am a graduate of X department, how can I find a job in Europe? Do I have an equivalency to work in Europe?
We unfortunately do not have an answer to this question. One of us is a graduate of law school, the other is a graduate of architecture and we only know our own fields.. It is impossible for us to know how psychology or philosophy graduates find employment.. We don’t even know about equivalence.. You should ask someone who knows this at that point.
I am a law graduate in Turkey, can I practice law in Germany?
I am a law graduate in Turkey, can I practice law in Germany, unfortunately no.. You need to study for 7 more years. Answering these also requires expertise.
Speaking of a physiotherapist, here is Living in Germany and Business Life in Germany> with our friend Gonca, who lives in Munich and works as a physiotherapist. We left our interview on .
10-) Which job positions can law graduates apply for in Germany?
Think of big companies that do business both in Turkey, Europe and even around the world.. It is possible to work as a ‘legal counsel’ in these companies.. For example, think of big global companies like Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, Microsoft or PwC, Deloitte, KMPG.. You can apply for ‘Legal Counsel’ or ‘Associate’ advertisements of these companies, and these companies even have ‘turkish speaking legal counsel’ advertisements.. All you have to do is follow these postings regularly.
Companies where you can find a job are not limited to these, of course.. Especially in Germany, since there are too many companies doing business with Turkey and their partners in Turkey are not good at English, they look for Turkish legal counsel for their own organization.. In other words, you do not practice law in the classical sense, but you can become a legal consultant.
How can we increase our chances of finding a job abroad as a law graduate?
As you know, law graduates mostly do LL.M.. While some of the LL.M programs are focused on a specific field (such as International Tax Law, European Commercial Law), some are on a more comprehensive and general field.. In this respect, you can choose master’s programs on Finance, such as ‘LL.M in International Business Law’, ‘LL.M in International Maritime Law’ (there are more, actually) that will open your way.. Thus, when applying for a job, you can say, “Look, I’m a law graduate, but I’m considered a semi-financier.”. This is of course possible.. If your chance to do a non-field graduate program is suitable for a non-field graduate program, you can do a master’s degree in ‘digital marketing’ or an even more unrelated department and then apply for suitable jobs.. In this case, the most logical thing for us seems to be to apply for internship positions first and wait for a rise over time.
Let’s say you worked as a lawyer in Turkey for 5 years and you are applying for a job in Germany, Don’t think that I should apply for ‘senior’ positions anymore, unfortunately, if you apply for ‘junior’ positions, your chances of being selected are much higher, and especially if you have 1-2 years of experience, it may be much more logical to apply for internship positions first.. After all, you get paid from the interns in Germany and then you have the chance to continue where you did your internship!
We can say that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel for law graduates too!
12 -) Finding a Job in Germany for Architects and Job Opportunities for Architects in Germany
Dear architects, we haven’t forgotten you either!
Of course, finding a job is a little easier than lawyers because we have a “universal” profession..
Well, the answer to the question How to find a job as an architect in Germany? is as we always do;
Step 1: First of all, beautiful prepare an application dossier. So what is in this file: portfolio, CV and letter of intent (required in some large offices).
Step 2: Then first make a list of the offices you want to apply to. Preparing this list is not easy like other professions.. Because there is no job search platform with all offices for architects.. You need to make a list of offices by researching one by one.. For this, you first need to find architectural offices from sites such as LinkedIn and Monster.de for Germany.. Then Google comes into play and you find the offices in the city you want to go to.. For example; You can list individual offices with search terms such as “architectural offices in Munich”.
Step 3: After that, you will apply to the offices one by one with a nice e-mail you will create and the hardest part is waiting
More detailed about this Germany The Employment Guide for Architects in is also on the way.
For those who are curious about Office Life in Germany; We mentioned Office Life in Germany in more detail in our article.
11-) How will I rent a house in Germany?
You have taken care of everything we mentioned above, believe me, Germany strikes from an unexpected place and you see, the hardest thing is to find a house! ☺
How to Find a House in Germany, as this subject has turned into a snake story? We wrote a long.
12.) How should my CV and motivation letter be when applying for a job in Europe?
We searched and researched and finally we prepared our CV on novoresume.com. Let’s start here first. This sentence is definitely not an advertisement.. Well, what did we pay attention to while preparing a CV;
What to Consider While Preparing CV?
- Your CV and Cover Letter are of course entirely in English (or if you know the language of the country you are applying for well). will be in that language). Okay, this was very simple, we didn’t write it!
- Do not send your CV and Cover Letter as a Word File, unless otherwise stated, send it as Pdf. It looks more beautiful and professional.
- Do not open a topic as my hobbies, because if you are not a Professor, Academician, if you do not have more than 20 years of experience and pages of articles, your CV should not exceed 1 page and you have much more important things to fit on that 1 page.
- If you are applying to the USA, they immediately eliminate CVs with photos.. An American friend said this and when we searched the internet, we read that it was true.. In other words, if you are applying to the USA, do not have a photo on your CV.
- You should not write an e-mail address from adolescence in the e-mail address section of the contact information, it should look professional!
- Your work experience is important, including internships, and put a one-sentence explanation under each experience.. It’s very important to be short and clear.
- Don’t write at all unless your GPA is really good.. For example, our averages were very low and you cannot find our average in any of our CVs.. ☺
- It is impossible for CVs prepared with traditional methods to reflect you, and such CVs appear in front of employers every minute. It’s best to spend some time and prepare a CV that is entirely your own.
- Grammar and grammatical errors are a huge minus, so pay attention to them!
- It’s normal that people our age (20-30 years old) don’t specialize in much. There are a few things we know well, highlighting them and highlighting them seems much more professional than writing too many irrelevant things.
13-) Which sites should I look for when looking for a job in Germany?
strong>
We were somewhat traditional when applying and started with the most well-known sites first.. These were LinkedIn and ‘monster.de’-, which is very popular especially in Germany.
In addition to these, we have just discovered something new and even in Turkey. Another site that will help job searches is Jooble. We leave its link here.
‘monster.de’, glasdoor.de and ‘reed.co.uk’ is also a site that is frequently used for job postings in Germany.
Glassdoor is different from the others, on the site you can also read the comments about the company you will apply for, average salaries and interview experiences of people, and this helped us a lot before the interviews. You need to be a member to access all the information on the site, but membership is free.. All you have to do is share any job or interview experience.
How can I find an internship in Germany? Which Sites Should I Look For While Looking For An Internship In Germany?
Additional Note: If you are looking for an internship or praktikum, you can also use the site meinpraktikum.de, there are too many ads on the site.
<
That’s all for now, we would like to extend this list and answer all questions (to our knowledge) about living in Germany and living abroad. So this time it’s your turn, cotton comments and questions are in the pocket! ☺
Let the Questions Come Then!
Good application to everyone!
