We put on our thermal suits for the
Husky Safari. They did not accept any of the clothes we took with us, such as ski pants, snow shoes, wool socks.. They provided thermal clothing, including socks, that fit each of us sizes.. We wore the clothes they gave us, put our own clothes in the fabric bags they gave them, and took the road to the Husky farm by car.. Hygiene is really important here.. Each outfit given is sterilized for the next safari.
We arrive at the Husky farm after traveling for about 15-20 minutes with stunning views.. The houses are spread over a wide area, single storey, with steep roofs, in pastel colors with a garden… Icicles on their roofs are larger and thicker than we’ve ever seen before.. It’s like we’re in a fairy tale.
An officer greets us at the farm.. He gives our group a very detailed 15-minute presentation on how to use the sleds.. During this presentation, we hear the shouts of huskies.
Husky farm is spread over a very large area.. A concrete kennel was built for each dog, about 3 meters apart.. 1 husky dog is tied to each of the rows of huts.
When the dogs see us, they bark and move as if to say “come on, hurry up, we want to run”, it’s hard to explain.. There are hundreds of husky on this farm.
Finally, our lesson is over.. There are 4 important rules that we learned in the lesson, or rather, pointing; the first one is “we go” when the right arm is bent at the elbow and moved up and down. When the right arm is extended to the side, it means “there is a right bend” (and there is a left bend when it is opened to the left), “We are standing” if the right arm is raised with the palm open, and if the right arm is drawing circles from the elbow above it means “there is a problem, help is needed”.
It’s time to prepare the sleds. Each sled for two. A person sits on a wooden sled covered with reindeer skin. The second person is standing behind the sled and driving the sled.. There is a gear mechanism under the feet. The person using the sled presses this mechanism when they want to stop or slow down.. The teeth of the mechanism sink into the snow and braking is done in this way.
The officers attach 6 dogs to each sled in two rows.. One of the dogs is the leader. The enthusiasm is at its peak as the dogs are strapped to the sleds. fidgeting and shouting. They are waving their tails from side to side with joy.
We set off as a convoy. We will make a safari in the white forest for about 4 hours.. When dogs start running, they shut up. As soon as you stop, they both shout and can’t sit still.. It’s like they always want to run. As soon as you slow down a little, “don’t press the brake, let’s run!” They look right back as if to say.
Not all huskies are white, there are also black ones.. But what they all have in common is that their eyes are light blue.. We adore these huskies… When they feel the need for water while running, they continue to run by eating snow from the edge.
After a perfect 2-hour journey with husky sledges, accompanied by a beautiful white forest view, we come to a Lappish hut.
<
By the way, my brother was determined not to ride because he is a very strict animal lover and is against dogs pulling sleds.. However, he changed his mind when he saw that the huskies were so eager and eager to run.. I think this desire to run is in the genes of huskies.
This Lappish hut we came to is a chalet of 35-40 square meters.. There is a long narrow hearth in the middle.. At the top of the hut, there is a narrow and long opening that runs along the hearth, serving as a chimney.
Our local guide here, with a very sharp fin knife he took out from his waist, lit a fire by chopping a piece of wood in a split second.. They served it by making a perfect creamy soup of salmon pieces, carrots and potatoes over the charcoal fire.. In addition, they gave pieces of fried bread sprinkled with powdered sugar.. Then we put out the fire by sipping our coffees.. Our guide cleaned up all the waste, leaving the place spotless for the next group.
As we left the hut, the huskies waiting for us outside started shouting again as they saw us.. We continued our safari in the forest for 2 more hours.
Meanwhile, our eyebrows and eyelashes froze.. It is such a cold that even the hairs in our noses started to freeze like thorns.. Cell phones, cameras, even cameras froze. We take out the camera to shoot, but within 1-2 minutes, the glass of the lens in front of it freezes.. We wrap the machines with our clothes to keep them warm.. Charges run out quickly due to cold. It was really difficult to shoot here.
The temperature was -26 degrees.. But the huskies are so happy that the queues are running left and right in the air again. If the driver of the rear sled does not brake when the front sled stops, the rear sled moves towards the front sled.. But the huskies on the front sled don’t want to put the back one forward, so they start fighting with each other.
Husky safari We returned to the hotel after our tour.. However, this safari is not told, but lived. There are affordable hotels such as Apartment Kokki and Matkustajakoti Outa, where you can stay during your Lapland trip.
