Bafa Lake is on the way to Bodrum, 40 minutes away. The view of Lake Bafa, which is on your left as you travel, is unique.. I was very upset by missing the camp organized by my friends from Izmir last year.. This time, when I’m on my way, I write to my mind that I must stop by, and I coincide with the holiday of my cousin who lives in Didim and we go together.
Don’t forget to follow me on my instagram account.. I tell a lot in stories and highlights
- Instagram: Where are you from
As we continue on the Bodrum road, we pass the unique views of Bafa Lake along the way. I am also after Heraklia Ancient ruins in Kapıkırı Village. You have to deviate from the Kapikiri Village sign on the way to Bodrum. There is a beautiful way. We are swerving forward.
When we see different rocks on the road, we stop and take pictures.. While the lake is on our left, it presents us with magnificent views, the navigation is constantly guiding us.. We come to a village. Women sit in front of the doors and in a small square.. We ask Kapıkiri. They say “here”. According to navigation, we still have to go.
Ancient City of Heraklia
Women were doing handicrafts in front of the door. They say we will show you around when we come.. While walking through the houses together, suddenly I am with a group of women and my cousin is staying with the other group.. I say “where are they”. “They must have gone to the theater,” they say back and forth.. No matter how many times I ask, it’s always confusing.
Women live in this village.. They have baskets tied on their backs. They tell me about Kapıkırı. They tour the ancient bath and theater. They take my pictures. Formerly Bafa Lake was a bay. It was an important port city of ancient times.. Over time, the soil filled up and became a lake and lost its former importance.. ancient name Latmos. Now Bafa Lake Nature Park.
After a few centuries it was forgotten. Then, in the Middle Ages, monks rediscovered this place.. The monastery ruins in the Beşparmak Mountains surrounding Bafa Lake are from that time.. There are other villages around Bafa Lake, but the ancient ruins in Kapikiri and the lake make this place more special. There are five islands in Lake Bafa.. These islands can be visited with a boat tour.
Who knows what will happen if this place is excavated? So neglected. Weeds all over. I came with the slippers on my feet. Even the thorn pierced my feet. Why wouldn’t it sink? I heard there are caves and murals somewhere on the hill.. I actually want to go there. My friends warned me not to go. Snakes are more likely to emerge in warmer months.. This time, I am a good girl and listen to my word.
As in every Ancient City, there is a legend here too.. There’s Selena in love with a shepherd. The great Zeus grants the shepherd immortality, but he will spend his life sleeping.. Selena does not give up her love and continues to visit the shepherd while he sleeps.. Legend has it that they have 50 children.
Women of Kapikırı
We have a plan to go to the island by boat. I say “I’ll do it”. There are even 70 years old women among them.. When they come to the theater last, they open their baskets on their backs to me.. Various crafts coming out. Jewelry, writings… I could only buy from them because they took me around..
It turns out that they deliberately divided us into two.. They shared us. Normally I don’t buy anything on the go anymore, but they gave me such candy that I get something in return for their efforts.. The products they sell around 10-20-30 lira. They sell things like olive oil and honey.. After wandering around, the cousin and the other women gather in the small square of the village.
While I am looking for a bottle for olive oil, my cousin says the price of oil is too high.. The women in the square say the price is high and they fight among themselves.. I don’t know the price. this makes me a little sad. I’m getting it to support their efforts or I have such a long way to go.. That olive oil would travel miles with me. I’m giving up on buying.
Bafa Lake Boat Trip and Food and Drink Frustration
We are going down to the lake with a woman from the village. Her husband has a boat. When he asks for 200 liras to go boating, we give up on him too.. I say “normally 10 lira per person”. They say, “There is no one else but you for him”. I respect. Swimming in the lake doesn’t come true in my dream.
The island is the distance I can swim, but it’s too choppy and blurry. All the algae washed ashore. Not very appetizing. There is a restaurant by the lake. Let’s eat the eel from Bafa Lake. No fish left, meatballs 40 liras. Cousin says “stop” and disappears. It’s coming soon while I’m enjoying the sunset.
We Can’t Run Out of Remedies
He’s out of the lakeside. He went to the village with a motorbike passing by. Bought hot bread, butter, honey, tomatoes. The man gave a watermelon as a gift.. That’s how I pull down the desk chairs in the car. We are setting our table as the sun sets in Bafa Lake’.
It’s in our genes. There is no such thing as being helpless. don’t bow down. If they charge like that, we’ll find a way. When we turn on our music, we watch Heraklia Ancient City at the magnificent sunset.
Bafa Lake, the ruins of Heraklia Ancient City, everything is wonderful at sunset, however I guess I don’t like places where everything is commercialized this far
r. Of course, every effort has a reward, but I don’t want to see only money in the eyes that look at me.. That’s why I don’t go to places where not too many people have gone yet, where money isn’t everything.
