As important as it is for the accessory to complement the style, it is equally necessary for it to have touches that reflect the identity of the person.. Aside from the recent developments in the fashion industry, it is a fact that designers in Turkey do not lag behind in this regard.. As long as there are designers who bring us the products that we know from which hand, even when we see them from a distance, and that we always feel as if they are a part of us, it becomes easier to reach characteristic accessories that integrate with our style and identity.. In this issue of The Gate, we had a short conversation with Esra Karadeniz, the founder and designer of the brand, on the women’s and men’s collections, featuring Ekria’s futuristic minimal designs.. How did Ekria come about? How do you describe him when you want to describe him?
In 2012, I graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, majoring in Industrial Design. When I returned to Istanbul, I established Ekria after I settled on the design and production technique I worked on at school.. It would be correct to define Ekria as a futuristic, minimal and universal accessory brand.
The concept of jewelry and accessory design is actually a whole encompassing many parts.. What materials do we see in Ekria? What points determine the design concept of the brand?
What distinguishes Ekria from other brands is our industrial approach in the drawing and production of designs. The designs drawn in 2D in the computer environment are cut from silver plates as a single piece by CNC.. No traditional casting technique is used in any part of the production.. In this way, it is possible to achieve perfect symmetry and sharp details.
Both you create collections for both men and women. We know women’s view of accessories, but what do you think men think?
This is more difficult for men; because it is a little difficult to find accessories that are both design-oriented and masculine. Ekria’s industrial, futuristic and simple approach to accessories also meets the expectations of men. This line of the brand shows itself more in masculine designs.
Well, if we look from a general point of view, what kind of designs should men prefer?
It is very important that the design appeals to the taste of the person and complements the way of dressing.. Also, it would be nice for men to make sure that the accessories they choose are compatible with their favorite watch in terms of color and texture.
When I look at Ekria pieces, I think that it is Ekria. The most important thing is that the material used in its design is structurally intact.. How do you combine this aspect of your chosen concepts?
I think that the element that makes a brand successful is the set of rules that the brand creates for itself and follows every season without exception.. Every product that appears in Ekria has the same character, regardless of the collection it belongs to.. Each product is designed in two dimensions in a computer environment and cut with CNC.. While this rule is very restrictive in the design phase of collections that are different every season, it is very important in creating a futuristic and minimal perception of the brand.. This is the reason why Ekria accessories are recognized at first sight by people.
Based on what ideas and themes do you create?
Our “Timeless” collection, which you can find constantly at Ekria, consisting of minimal and complementary products with an ever-evolving style, is the identity of the brand. Our baseline reflecting. Our seasonal collections are inspired by nature, different cultures around the world, futuristic elements and geometric forms.
What awaits us in the 2015 collection?
We were inspired by the mechanisms of insects in our 2015-16 Fall/Winter collection that we are currently preparing. Our collection named “Flight” will be our first seasonal and universal collection.. Flight will consist of 20 pieces of accessories for both men and women.. In this case, there should be interest in their collections abroad?
From the Who’s Next fair in Paris, which we have attended twice a year, to Japan, Hong Kong, Paris and Verona. We have sold to many stores in. I can say that the Ekria line is particularly popular in Asia.
