Although the meeting of green and blue gives people peace all over the world, the scenery in some places is more special and beautiful, you can’t take your eyes off it.. Here are Austria’s Hallstatt and Slovenia’s Bled are just such stunningly beautiful places that you must explore. That’s why, in my Austria Slovenia Trip (Hallstatt – Bled) How to Plan? article, I will explain step by step how to start this exploration.
Whether you are planning a trip on your own for the first time, or you are a traveler who is experienced in planning but does not know this route yet; I think this article will help you, where you can find answers to all your questions such as when to go to Austria and Slovenia, to which airport to buy a ticket, how to travel, where to stay.

1. Step 2: Decide when to go.
When to go to Hallstatt – Bled tour I think there are two answers to the question.
First; Spring and summer terms from mid-April to the end of September. During this time, as the weather will warm up, the trees will become green and the landscape will be colorful, your trip will definitely be more beautiful and the views you will see will be more magnificent.. I’ve been to Hallstatt twice in mid-April and August, both were very good.. Of course, April is risky in terms of weather, you can come across rain and cold.. I went to Lake Bled twice in February and April, and I didn’t find it that impressive when the trees were dry in February.
The second answer is; go in the snowy winter time. I haven’t been able to do this yet, but under the snow, both Hallstatt and Bled look more epic. Of course, there is a risk that it will not be profitable at that time, as you will buy your flight ticket and plan ahead, but if you do not have the chance to go in the summer, such a risk can be tried for the end of January or February.. Of course, the cold weather and the darkening of the weather around 4 – 5 am will make your job a little harder, anyway, that’s why I couldn’t go in the snowy period yet
Christmas period is also preferred for the snowy landscape. of course, so the first three weeks of December. If you’re lucky, it’ll snow and you’ll get to hang out at the Christmas market.
Step 2. : Decide how many nights you will stay.
The main places you want to visit are Hallstatt and Lake Bled > Although, I do not recommend that you limit your travel program to only these two places while you are there.. Which cities am I talking about, Mozart’s city Salzburg in Austria and Ljubljana, the capital city in Slovenia?. Both are definitely places worth spending time with.
But on the other hand, considering that your time is probably limited, I think a minimum of 4 and ideally 5 days is required for the Austria Slovenia sightseeing route. Especially if you are going to travel without a car, 4 days must be very difficult and 5. If you are going to rent a car and have good flight ticket times (like arrival morning and evening return) then 4 days may be enough.
Great if you have the chance to spare more time. You can extend the Austrian part of the trip to the capital Vienna or Germany’s most beautiful city, Munich, and the Slovenian part to Zagreb in Croatia and Venice in Italy.. If you have such a possibility, let me add how many kilometers between the cities I mentioned:
300 km between Salzburg and Vienna
150km from Salzburg to Munich
240km from Ljubljana to Venice
Ljubljana – 140 km from Zagreb
I will detail which day and where you will be in the rest of the article, now that we have decided how many days we will stay, let’s move on to the next step.
Step 3: Buy your plane ticket.
You have more or less set a date in your mind and you know how many days you will stay. So now you can start searching for airfare for your trip.
I have given distance examples in case you have more than 4 – 5 days to consider seeing other places nearby, if you intend to add those cities of course, check your plane tickets accordingly. If you are going to do the minimum sightseeing route then you can consider your tickets as outbound Salzburg and return Ljubljana (or vice versa), try one first and then reverse. You determine the direction of your route according to whichever price turns out to be appropriate.
There are not many airline alternatives since only Turkish Airlines flies to both cities at the moment, but since both Salzburg and Ljubljana are among the destinations where the campaign is generally made, you can find cheap flights.
Of course, when you make the round trip from the same place, the flight ticket will be cheaper and the car rental price will decrease, but since the distance between Salzburg and Ljubljana is 300 km, would you like to go back all the way to the point where you started and you need to do a good calculation to see if it’s worth it. If the prices are very different, your budget is very limited, you have time and you like to drive, why not
Finally; If you are going to apply for a visa for this trip, you need to consider the country of departure when choosing the starting airport, because as you know, there is a rule that is “the country from which the visa is obtained and the country of first entry”, although it is terribly unnecessary, but still potentially a headache.. If you like to take risks, there are many people who didn’t follow this rule and nothing happened (like getting a visa from country X, which is famous for issuing long visas, and entering country Y), but no one can guarantee that.. So if you chose Salzburg as the starting airport, apply for Austria visa and if you chose Ljubljana, apply for Slovenia visa, both visa applications are made through VFS Global company.
Step 4: How to navigate determine.
For your Austria and Slovenia trip, it is important to decide whether you will move by car or by public transport; because Hallstatt and Bled are not main cities, so public transport is limited. Therefore, getting from one point to another by car may take a long time with a connecting transit route, which can change your planning.
Sightseeing route covering Hallstatt and Lake Bled if you are at least two people. I strongly recommend you to rent a car for your trip, maybe only for those traveling alone and those who do not have a driver’s license, a public transportation option can be considered.
When renting a car, enter the airports from which you have purchased tickets as pick-up and drop-off points.. Or, since you can visit Salzburg and Ljubljana without a car, you can also skip those days and rent them, I will talk about different options when I talk about the day below.. For car rental reservation, you can use Discover Car Hire, which shows the best offers from different companies, click for its website.
Step 5: Determine your route and hold your hotels.
I will tell you as if you are going to start from Austria and go to Slovenia, but I said that if the plane ticket is cheaper, you can do the opposite, so you can start the days of what I said below from below.. Throughout the article, I tried to choose the hotels that I gave their names from among the ones that got the highest score according to their location, facilities and customer reviews. By clicking on their names, you can be directed to the booking.com page and you can book the one you like by examining the prices for your own dates.
