Recently, I was invited to the Porsche Track Day event by the world-famous sports automobile brand Porsche. My constant followers know my interest in cars.. Naturally, every invitation from Porsche excites me. In fact, the taste of the roadshow we did with Porsches from Istanbul to Budapest a few years ago is still in my mouth.. However, my goal here is of course, “Look, I’m traveling with beautiful Porsches, don’t get angry with your envy”. On the contrary, I say you can experience Porsche as a weekend activity in Istanbul.
Things to do in Istanbul during your weekend break > callers can spend a day with different Porsches at the Porsche Driving Center located in Intercity Istanbul Park. In order to have a unique experience with many different Porsche models on the Formula 1 track under the supervision of experienced racing drivers, you need to go to Porsche authorized dealers and register.. This experience is of course not free.. You can have this unique experience from 8:30 am to 6 pm by paying a figure such as 1250 TL+ VAT.. Of course, if you can find an open quota… If you’re interested, let me start to explain what this Porsche Track Day is like from my own experience.

Where and How to Get to the Porsche Driving Center?
Porsche Driving Center, one of the largest driving experience centers opened by Porsche in the world, is in Tuzla It is located in Intecity Istanbul Park, which also includes the Formula 1 Track.. When you exit TEM as if you are going to Sabiha Gökçen, Istanbul Park signs direct you.. (Googlemaps location) This place has been hosting Porsche’s driving experience events for nearly 3 years.
Porsche Track Day
I I set off from Florya at quarter to 6 in the morning and found myself in Istanbul Park at quarter past 7. The event started with a breakfast at 8 am.. Afterwards, we received information about both the event and Porsche’s renewed models in a presentation of 15-20 minutes.. In addition, Porsche’s special tire supplier, Pirelli, gave a brief information about the tires of the vehicles.. Afterwards, experienced race pilots who will accompany us on the track were introduced.
The test drives, which started at 8:45 in the morning, continue until 17-18 in the evening.. There are 4 different sections in this process.. There are 15-minute tea and coffee breaks between each episode.. 2. At the end of the stage, there is a lunch break of 1 hour and 10 minutes.. Since the event is held by the Germans, these timings are taken very seriously.
The community is divided into 4 different groups so that the 4 parts of the event can be held comfortably.. The green group I was with had a driving experience on the Formula 1 Track with 4-door cars until noon.. Afterwards, a lane change was made with the 911 Turbo and Boxter models.. After lunch, first 2-door cars driving experience on the Formula 1 Track, then slalom and launch control tests were performed.
Formula 1 Stage with 4-Door Cars
In this stage With the sports versions of the Porsche Cayenne, Panamera and Macan models, you drive together on the track with safety vehicles in front and behind you.. Thanks to the radios in all cars, your trainers, who are racing drivers, give you directions.. Skids on the track show you where to brake and where to start a turn. They already explain this both in the first short training and in the pre-driving information.
Two people get on each car and the pilot changes at the end of the tour.. On the next lap, the pilots move to the one in front, and the frontmost pilots move to the rear.. This stage ends after everyone has used all the cars.. 6 cars per person in this stage. During this stage, you feel as if you are in a racing car, not a 4-door car.. Although we tested the cars in a torrential rain on the Formula 1 track, it was as if we were in a dry-floor test.. It is also worth noting that you must wear a helmet on your head at this stage.
I would not be exaggerating if I said that I fell in love with the New Panamera during this test.. In the interior design of the car with the piano black front console, the guys exaggerated the event a bit.. The 12-inch multimedia screen and the touch console in front of it are beyond legendary. I couldn’t help but ask if the match can be watched on this screen.. The thing is, if this car were mine, I’d groan if someone with dirty hands would leave fingerprints.. Imagine if someone touched it with their chocolate hand.. I’ll beat him out of my car :)) Just kidding, I won’t get him in the car anyway :))
While everything is being digitized on this new front panel, the analog clock, which is an important element of the Porsche identity, is always on the display. The rev counter in the middle remained analog.. By the way, although we did not use it how much, Panamera’s 4-liter diesel engine was a beast producing 422 horsepower and 850 Nm of torque.. In this event, I also learned that the Panamera is the fastest in the world among mass production cars.
Lane Change (Deer Test)
After our coffee break, Istanbul Park’s deer test We move on to the section reserved for. What is this deer test? If a person or animal suddenly jumps in front of you while you are driving, you may not have a chance to brake.. With direct steering you make left right. The test by which you measure how safe the vehicle is during these sudden maneuvers is called the deer test.. This event uses cones, not live animals.. (Good news for animal lovers)
In second gear, you increase your speed up to 70 km until you see the first cone, and when you reach these cones, you take your foot off the gas and brake and try to pass the cones in front with only steering maneuvers.. (In the video, I gave some wrong information with the excitement of the machines.. Consider the information here.. I’ve put the video to give you an idea of the stage) You see this stage sitting next to you as you make a pilot first.. Then he goes to you and you do this stage 2 times.. In the first, PSM (Porsche Save Me) mode is turned on, in the second it is turned off.. So you have the opportunity to see how effective Porsche’s safety functions are.. You can only turn off PSM at this stage during the event.. If you turn off this function in other unauthorized stages and have an accident, the vehicle insurance is disabled.. Don’t risk telling me. Or if you are going to enter, enter with a model you like in color and package
2 Door Cars Formula 1 Track Experience
After the lunch break, the event we held in the morning was this time a 2-door Porsche. We came to the version with. Here, you have the chance to use 6 different versions of 911 and 718 on the track, one after the other.. In particular, the center engine of the renewed 718 gives such a sound to the cabin that it is almost impossible to behave well on the track with this car.. In any case, whoever got into this car, the trainers were warning over the radio.. You understand why you are warned when you get into the car.. At this stage, you still have to wear a helmet.
Slalom and Launch Control
At this stage, there is a slalom race between the 718 and the cones.. Team First, you do 1 lap with the trainer, and then you do 2 laps with him.. The fastest slalom on this course wins the race.. Each cone dropped is added to your minute as penalty points.
Just next to this track, there is the Launch Control stage with the 911 Turbo.. Here, you first root the gas normally and press the brake as soon as you see the cones.. You are amazed at how a car that accelerates so suddenly can stop so quickly.. In the second lap, you press the brake with one foot and you press the gas for a while with the other.. After a short while, it asks me to activate the launch control on the screen.. Are you kidding too of course you say yes. Then you take your foot off the brake and you fly.. This feature allows you to reach 0 to 100 km/h faster by giving the torque in the most efficient way at the start of the vehicle, while reducing the sway at take-off.. When you see the cones, you hit the brakes again.. It gives you confidence to see the car that just took a storm and stopped at a very short distance again.
