Grand Canyon Travel Guide
Grand Canyon Travel Notes
I need to go to Las Vegas for business This is what came to mind when I found out: Las Vegas is the excuse, Grand Canyon is gorgeous! Indeed, the less excited I was in Las Vegas, the more excited I was to see the Grand Canyon, and I dedicated my last day in the States to the Grand Canyon!
One word summary; Grand Canyon is another world! After all, we are talking about a huge national park that is 446 km long, 29 km wide and 1.6 km deep! This is a place that cannot be understood without going and seeing it..
This time I will come to the point without further ado!
Additional note: This time, I traveled alone as the female side of the blog and naturally I wrote the article alone.. Our next USA trip will be as a couple, which means it will be even better!
How was the Grand Canyon formed?
The formation of the Grand Canyon dates back to 5-6 million years (!). Shaped by winds, rains and the Colorado River. The weather is unstable due to the desert climate..
When to Go to Grand Canyon?
Grand Canyon has two main visiting areas. The South Rim that most tourists (and I too) prefer, and the North Rim.
South Rim open all year. The North Rim is only open from May 15 to October 15. The North Rim is closed to visitors as soon as it snows.
By the way, there is a train line running between South Rim and North Rim, but the tickets are about USD 60 one way!
Grand Canyon is located in the desert region of America Arizona and naturally has a desert climate. So if you go in summer, be sure to take into account that it will be extremely hot.. Especially if you have plans such as trekking, it is useful to plan it outside of July and August.. If you want to do trekking in 50 degrees heat, of course that is different!
I went in April and contrary to what I expected, the weather was very cold.. Las Vegas was 25 degrees while the Grand Canyon circumference was 5 degrees. I froze to the bone because I didn’t take a coat with me.. The desert climate is really weird…
It seems like the best time is autumn, but don’t look at me, if you have a mind to travel, you can always go.
Grand Canyon Entrance Fees
If you enter the Grand Canyon on foot, you pay 12 Usd per person. If you came by vehicle, you pay 25 Usd per vehicle.. If you go with a tour, the entrance fee is usually included in the tour price..
How to get to and tour the Grand Canyon?
Most tourists going to the Grand Canyon go rent a car from Las Vegas. If I had time, I would like to rent a car from Las Vegas and spend a night near the Grand Canyon and travel in 2 days..
If you’re coming to Grand Canyon from Las Vegas and you’ve just rented your car, all hotels in Las Vegas have an Avis rental car branch, you can find it and talk to it.. If it is expensive, it is possible to rent a car from www.rentalcars.com for approximately 40 Usd per day.. We usually rent from this site..
The part of the Grand Canyon closest to Las Vegas, the West Rim area about 2 hours’ drive from Las Vegas. If you searched the internet for the Grand Canyon, you must have come across a glass-bottomed bridge (Skywalk), this bridge is in the West Rim region! I didn’t choose this place because I read that this area is played a lot to make it more attractive to tourists.. Also, I didn’t want to pay 30 Usd to go to Skywalk..
My go to South Rim takes 4 hours by car from Las Vegas. If you’re going during the summer, it’s best to leave the hotel early to avoid the crowds.
If you don’t have 2 days to see the Grand Canyon, but you have lots of money, choose see the Grand Canyon by helicopter. you can think! Joking aside, I have no doubt that seeing the canyon from a bird’s eye view will be a great experience, as it is not possible to see and perceive the entire Grand Canyon from a single angle..
If you decide to tour the canyon with a helicopter tour, it should be noted that all helicopter tours are likely to be canceled in windy weather. For example, all helicopter tours were canceled on the day I went.. Helicopter tours can range from 160 Euros to 3000 Euros depending on the type and duration.. If you are interested, there are many helicopter tour options at this link. Let’s leave the link here.
Daily Grand Canyon Tours from Las Vegas
We came to Grand Canyon like me from Las Vegas to those who will go on tour! ☺ I must say from the beginning, the best way to see the Grand Canyon is definitely not to go on a tour.. But if you have a limited budget and it is not possible to rent a car, there is nothing to do.. Let’s see if going with a tour is better than not going at all!
If you buy a tour of the South Rim like me, the downside of going with a tour is that what would normally take 4 hours by car takes 7 hours by bus (14 hours round trip) and you only need to tour the Grand Canyon. you have 3 hours.
If you are going on tour, the most logical thing is to plan the scenery points you will go to in advance and try to spend those 3 hours as efficiently as possible.. that’s what i did. Even though I couldn’t spend a lot of time at the scenic spots I wanted, I saw most of them.. Also, there is no internet inside, it is better if you mark the places you will go in Maps.me(our savior application) ..
Make sure to search for the tour company you choose on TripAdvisor and see the reviews.. Some tour companies are really bad and some are very good of course!
Grand Canyon South Rim Scenic Points and Alternate Routes
South Rim There are free shutts in. If you don’t have time to walk, you can catch the shuttles and go to the view points.. The shuttle stops are already adjusted accordingly..
Additional note: Free shuttle services within the South Rim are only available between 1-March and 30-November. The road between these dates is closed to private vehicles.. Between December and February, private vehicles are allowed as the shuttle does not operate.
Hermit Road
‘Grand Canyon Visitor Center’ to Grand Canyon After logging in, you can take the Hermit Road buses to the westernmost part of Grand Canyon Village.. This route takes about 1 hour by shuttle and stops at 9 viewpoints.. This is the ideal route for those who have little time in Kanyon.. You can get off at the point you want, then you can get on the shuttle again to go to the next stop from where you got off.. Last stop Hermit’s Rest. You can see the route I’m talking about in the photo below..
‘Hopi Point‘ on Hermit Road is considered one of the best views of Grand Canyon.
If you don’t want to go that far, be sure to see ‘Yaki Point‘. Listed as Grand Canyon’s most beautiful sunset view. You can also easily go to Yaki Point by shuttle.
The Scenic Desert View Drive
This is also a route with viewpoints on the east side of Grand Canyon Village. Since I spent all my time on Hermit Road, I did not have the opportunity to go to this area.. The length of the route is about 42 km. If you’ve driven a car, the easiest way is to take a trip by car.
In my research on the internet, I saw that 90 percent of tourists prefer Hermit Road.. But if you have time, why not here!
