Language Schools in England
Hello everyone!
Life in Munich is still pretty calm. We thought about it and decided to prepare an article ‘Language Schools in England‘. Because, we came to Germany for a master’s degree, then we found a job in Munich and stayed in this country, in short, everything started when we were determined to learn English and I (Hope, the male side of the blog ☺) decided to go to a language school in London!
After 6 months of language school in London and back, everything became easier for me. If you’re considering a master’s degree in Europe, or if you’re set on learning English, the sooner you get this plan done, the better! That means the doors will open for you sooner! ☺
In this article, I will talk about my Language School in England process from start to finish. English language school visa, how I arranged my language school accommodation in England and most importantly how I chose language school in England and >Which language school do I recommend in England I will talk about it.
Why England and why London?
When I set my mind to learn English, I stayed between the United States and the United Kingdom, and I chose England both because British Culture came closer to me than “American” Culture, and because it would make it easier for me if I wanted to stay in England later on..
Let’s say you chose England and you are not sure where to start, the most important thing is to find a language school you can trust yourself.. When you find this, your job becomes a lot easier because the language school helps you find the right city, the right program, arrange accommodation and obtain a UK visa! It is very important that you feel safe, especially if it is your first solo experience abroad!
Language School in England Our Recommendation
If I have to make a UK language school suggestion here, I would definitely choose I use EF Language Schools. The most important reason why I recommend EF is that they are very experienced in language school in England and they have so many options to offer you! It is also very important that the language school you choose is institutional, as long as you don’t get carried away!
Let’s say you are in your 20s and you want only your peers at the language school you will attend.. In this case, you can choose one of EF’s 18-25 language schools. Or you know English to a certain level, but you want to learn academic English, then you can choose EF’s Academic English course. Apart from all these, there are of course many more English course options!
Which City in England?
Let’s say that the England language school program you want to go to is on your mind and it’s time to choose a city.. There are three important things here in my opinion; to feel comfortable in that city, to have a pleasant time after the language school, and of course the budget..
If you want to go to a quieter area for language school in England, you can choose Bournemouth or Eastbourne.. The happy news is, in this case, your accommodation fees have decreased a little.
As for me; London was the biggest dream of my high school years. I always wondered about London when I was studying architecture. That’s why I never had a hard time choosing a city.. I already knew I was going to London!
The biggest plus for me when choosing a language school in England was that I spent my remaining time to the fullest.. Museums, art galleries, parks, everything was at hand.. Since my language school is very close to the city center, I found myself in a different place every day after the course.. It will be much easier to socialize if you prefer a school in the city center while choosing a language school.. By the way, the EF Language Schools I suggested above took a plus from me because the English language schools in all cities are in the very center of the city.
Language School in England Accommodation
You have chosen your language school and city in England, it’s time to arrange accommodation. You usually arrange accommodation through your language school and you have two options; Staying with a British family or in student residences.
You may hesitate to stay with a British family at first, but consider this; When you go to a language school in England, you have a purpose, to learn a language on site.. listening, seeing, speaking. You have so much more opportunity for all of this when you stay with a British family. Most of the time, you are not the only student staying with the family you are staying with, and the families are very friendly towards you because they earn money from this job! You can also stay in the dormitory of language schools, but since everyone who comes there will have come for language school, no one will speak perfectly, it is useful to take this into account.
I stayed with an English family in London and We were 5 students in a 3-storey, 7-room house.. Although I was a little hesitant at first to see if I would be comfortable with the family, it was not as I feared and I was very comfortable.. Other students who stayed at home became my very close friends.. I should add here that two of my friends who met later in that house got married! ☺ (we are not. Our story is different)
England Language School Visa
Let’s say language school, your city and your accommodation, now it’s time to apply for a visa for the language school..
There are people around you who talk about the UK visa with fear.. we do not agree with this. ☺ If you are going to England for language school, if your language school has provided you with the necessary documents and you submit your documents in full, there is no reason for your visa not to be issued.. The important thing is not to submit missing documents..
Choosing a corporate language school is also important here. The better if your language school has experience with visa issues.. Again, I can easily recommend EF Language Schools in this regard.
What should be the duration of the Language School in England?
You should stay at least 3 months if you ask us (of course if it fits your budget). Adapting to a city can often take two weeks or even a month, and you start to get the real efficiency after spending a while in that language.. When I went to England, I went at B1 which is the ‘I speak but I’m not super fluent’ level and came back with a level higher than C1 in 6 months..
In these 6 months, I have started to speak much more fluently, as I have not only learned the language but also lived it, my shyness in speaking English has gone and I have gained self-confidence in the language.. Even if you stay for 3 months, you will feel very comfortable with these changes.
Ways to Live in London on a Budget and Cheap
If we don’t talk about ways to make life cheap in London, cost is everyone’s problem! ☺
1-) While I was arranging my accommodation, I chose the option that included breakfast and had lunches from Tesco Supermarket.. So I just spent money on dinner. I usually prepare dinner myself at home.. Tesco in London could save your life. ☺
2-) Forget about taking a taxi, England’s taxis are not like ours! ☺ London Underground (Tube, so to speak) is lovely. The monthly card fee varies depending on the region you stay, but in any case, it is much cheaper than getting a weekly or daily metro card..
3-) If you attend a language school for 6 months or longer, you can become a student and have a part-time work permit.. If you want to work in small jobs so you don’t have any problems. (Let’s do an update here.. With the recent changes made in England, this visa is not given to every language school student.. We recommend that you contact the language school and confirm this before you register)
4-) London is also the capital of art and culture for us.. The most important thing is that you have free access to art and museums.. For example; British Museum, National Gallery, Tate Museum and many more museums are free to the public. If you want to watch the theater, you can find tickets to Shakespeare’s Globe plays for 15 pounds, provided that you buy the tickets in advance.. We will understand that art is cheaper than ours (although it is a little difficult to say cheap in the current situation, but it was then). And of course more valuable.
5-) If you want to see other countries while you are in London, you can fly to Iceland or Scotland for 10 Euros with RyanAir.. We traveled to Dublin for 15 Euros in total!
6-) Everyone’s favorite area in London is different. We love Camden Town the most. Also, eating and drinking here is much cheaper than in the rest of London.. If you go out in the evening you can choose Camden.
Looking back now, I say I’m glad I took a step towards learning English better because afterwards, when I got my IELTS certificate and found a job in Munich, it gave me more than I could imagine..
If you have any questions and want advice from an expert, you can always contact the EF Language Schools page.. We are confident that they will assist you in the best possible way..
