Where is the most beautiful country in the Balkans? What happened to our MOSTs in the Balkans?
- The most expensive but Croatia Dubrovnik that feels the most ancient
- The cheapest and Bulgaria Plovdiv, where you feel the most king
- Greece Thassos with the bluest waters and where you can try the most delicious seafood
- Thessaloniki, Greece, where we feel the most local and find it livable
- Macedonia Ohrid (Sveti Naum) where we witness the most natural wonder
- Our favorite Montenegro Budva and Kotor
- The most emotional and war-hating Bosnia and Herzegovina Mostar
- Most spontaneous, Serbia Uzice, which is not on our route and we went to without even knowing the name
- Albania, which we do not like the most, although we find it possible
We went abroad by private vehicle exit
Had problems with border crossings ?
We did not wait for more than 3 cars at any border crossing except Turkey, nor did we have any problems.. Only in the summer of 2017, we chose to take this route during the Eid-al-Adha holiday, although we set off 2 days after everyone left Istanbul, we waited for 4 hours at the Greek entrance at the İpsala border.. After a maximum of 500 meters, we entered the border gate of the country we will enter, by getting our passports approved again and showing our green insurance, which is one of the mandatory documents I mentioned in the article I mentioned above, which is questioned every time.. Our car was not searched even once.
Only because the Montenegro – Croatia border crossing is mostly crowded and we did not want to have the problem of waiting in line for 5 km at the border gate, we headed for a different customs pass with the advice of locals, contrary to what Google Maps directed.. Bypassing our possible queue, we waited for only 3 cars at the Croatian border crossing. We were in Dubrovnik 50 minutes from the border. The name of this border crossing is Vitaljina.
Did we have any security problems during the Road Trip?
We did not experience any security problems. We had received extremely frightening comments, especially for Albania.. No, they block the cars, it’s like throwing stones at the window.. Fortunately, these are also urban legends.
How are the roads in the Balkan countries? Is it hard to drive?
The country of men is so green, so green! We lost ourselves in 50 shades of green. I have never passed through so many national parks, nor have I seen them.. In fact, when you cross from Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Serbian border, you enter the national park by necessity and they take 1 Euro from you as a set foot.. Brother, did I want to enter, to go on a 10 km winding mountain road in the dead of night? It’s like I came to picnic in the national park. Anyway, a price has to be paid for this greenery! It is also the winding mountain roads stretching for kilometers, the night journeys without light.. Yes, you should know how to drive well and your stomach should not be very sensitive; because on this route, roads are difficult in all countries except Greece, Serbia and Bulgaria.. Is it an obstacle? Never! It was one of the most unforgettable journeys of my life..
A small note: If traveling to the Balkans with a bus trip is in your mind, I would say prepare yourself for jolts as the road is not very comfortable.. Otherwise, you may be a little disappointed.
How did we overcome the communication problem in our Balkans tour? How much does it cost to open your line abroad?
Yes, I know. Google Maps does not burn water. For this reason, since Umur is from Vodafone and Vodafone has agreements with all countries on our route except Bosnia and Herzegovina, he opened his current tariff abroad.. The fees for this were as follows, as the daily additional amount to be added to your current tariff in 2017:
- Greece, Macedonia, Albania, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria (14.90 TL)
- Montenegro (34.90 TL)
How to arrange accommodation on Road Trip?
We decided 15 days before we went on this trip. to road trip. I immediately opened the map, looked at the places I wanted to go and the distances between each other.. I determined our accommodation and made cancellable reservations free of charge through Booking.com. It doesn’t have to be like that. I planned it because I am a control freak, but since the return was not certain, we decided which city we wanted to stay in that day in Bulgaria and arranged accordingly.
Finally, I will have a few tips to make your journey much more enjoyable.
– You never know what kind of hotels you will encounter.. Put pillows and sheets in the car, especially if you are leaving without arranging a hotel.
– Make sure to have a refrigerator in the car.. We put ice cubes and put our water in them.. When it was finished, we bought it from the market and refreshed it.. We hardly paid for water.
– Keep snacks and snacks along the way.
– Set out with at least 2 backpacks. If you are too lazy to take your suitcases to the hotel where you will stay for 1 night, you can put the clothes of the day in a backpack and leave the room like us.
– The journey is more enjoyable with music.. Prepare a good playlist for an enjoyable road trip.
