Morocco is one of the favorite cultural travel destinations of travelers lately.. It is in great demand and arouses a lot of interest for those who do not go.. Since it is in such demand and I am interested, I thought I should definitely see it.. I have conveyed all my experiences in my full Moroccan trip to you in detail both in my article here and in this article.. Below is my new article full of great information, explaining what you need to know before going to Morocco, which is a country full of cultural tour lovers.
What Kind of Country Is Morocco?
Morocco’s African continent a Muslim country located in its westernmost part. It is a country that has been under the French colony for years, but is now partially freed from this colony.. It is possible to see the traces of French everywhere, especially in the language they use.. In Morocco, government offices use French rather than their own language, Arabic.. In other words, it is very possible to see the traces of colonization both in languages and in other things in life..
There is a complete Arab culture in the country, fortunately, their culture did not succumb to the colony.. When you say Selamunaleyküm, they ask where you are from, and when you say you are Turkish, they almost step into their bosom.. I could write pages and pages about what kind of country Morocco is, but I need to think about your reading focus, and I’ll move on to the next sub-titles.
Is Morocco a Visa; No visa is required from Turkish citizens. You must have a minimum 6-month passport. If you have a 6-month passport, you can stay in Morocco for 90 days.. The countries we are exempt from visa are dear.
Is Morocco Safe?
Let’s come to the most crucial question.. Since the day I traveled to Morocco, the most questions I have received have been about security.. Frankly, I was a little nervous about this security before I went, but after I left, I realized that I shouldn’t be too nervous.. I don’t know how it is known in other countries, but going to Morocco in Turkey is considered a bit uneasy.. Europeans were walking around with their children in peace.. In my opinion, Morocco is a country where you will not feel uneasy as long as you pay attention to some things.. These are the details that we should pay attention to in every country we go to.. If your bag is on your back, do not put your money in it, if you are forgetful, do not wear your glasses, put your phone in your inner pockets or hold it in your hand.. So Morocco is definitely not a country that poses a threat that can be called unsafe..
Things to know about Morocco
Do you need to be vaccinated while traveling to Morocco?
You do not need to be vaccinated before going to Morocco. Yes, it is in the African continent, but there are no dangerous animals or diseases that require you to be vaccinated in the country.. That’s why you can go to this African country where there is no need for a vaccine.
Should I go to Morocco by tour?
Morocco is definitely not a country with security problems that will require you to go with a tour.. If you want to relax and think of everything as a tour, you can choose the tour, but if you are an adventure lover like me, I would say not to go with a tour.. Enjoy discovering the labyrinthine streets of Morocco on your own. I have never been in favor of exploring a country with a tour, so believe me, I never even researched tour companies.. If I have given enough courage, I hope you will enjoy discovering this country that you have given up on going with a tour to the fullest on your own.
What to Eat in Morocco?
Plenty of tajin and eat couscous. Our food culture is similar to Morocco.. I can even say that couscous and meatballs are exactly the same.. Tajin is a dish cooked with vegetables with chicken or red meat in it.. I ate tajine with dates in some places and figs with almonds in some places, so we can say that it is a meat and vegetable dish flavored with various nuts.. If you don’t like to risk food, you can often eat tajin and couscous.. In addition to these savior dishes, street food is quite common in Morocco, especially in Marrakech..
In the evening, stands with various street foods are set up in Jema el-fna square.. Kebabs, offal, different fruit juices and snails… Yes, I said snails, I guess the phrase ‘snails are not sold in Muslim quarters’ was not used here, because Muslims also eat snails here.. I’ll admit I ate it too, it’s got a soft meat and salty. I felt like I was eating mussels while I was eating snails I think it was definitely not inedible. As Moroccan street food, there is also sardine fish, which was legendary.. As a matter of fact, Morocco is the first country in the world in the export of sardine fish, so it fell to me to taste the sardine fish..
If you go to Morocco, I recommend you to try the sardine fish.. By the way, while I was in Morocco, I had the chance to shoot a few youtube videos, one of which was ‘I try interesting Moroccan street food’.. You can watch it in the video below.
Transportation in Morocco?
There are buses used by local people for transportation in Morocco but I have not seen it preferred by tourists. Commercial taxis are the most used means of transportation by tourists in Morocco.. It is possible to see taxis everywhere, even if you do not see them, they see you because they are really ready everywhere.. Do you stand in a place undecided? They say they can come and take you wherever you want.. Look, this is very important; Always ask the price before taking any taxi..
First tell me where you’re going and ask how much it can take, they will most likely say a high price. In this case, your task will be to get a discount.. I will explain the bargaining event in more detail in the title of shopping in Morocco, but I will mention it here as well.. Do not take a non-negotiable taxi in Morocco. After making your bargain, you can take a taxi.. If local music is on on the radio, don’t enjoy it. Enjoy watching the interesting streets of Morocco without the hassle of driving in cluttered traffic.
Hiring a Car in Morocco
I didn’t want to take the risk and didn’t want to take the risk because I had so many negative experiences with renting a car in Morocco. I didn’t rent. But as someone who has rented a car abroad before, I would definitely recommend renting it from big companies or even from the airport.. Morocco’s traffic is a mess, so I wasn’t upset that I didn’t rent a car.. There are more motors than vehicles in the traffic, it is a country where everyone, men and women, old and young, uses motors.. Considering that horse carriages are also heavily involved in traffic, it will be a traffic adventure where you will not only struggle with vehicles..
In most places, they press the gas without seeing the lights turn green for vehicles, they have a lot of sudden brakes and sudden departures.. Traffic cops are actually everywhere, but I guess these situations are not a problem for them, so I have never seen them warn.. Maybe this is the case for central locations.. After explaining my one-to-one traffic observations, it’s up to you to decide whether to rent a car or not.
Train Between Casablanca and Marrakech
If you made your flight to Casablanca airport like me, this train journey is yours. it will be great for. You get on the train from inside the airport, after making a transfer to Casa Port, you get on the train again and then you arrive in Marrakech.. A peaceful journey that takes an average of 4 hours in total awaits you.. Since I took the train for the first time in my life, it caught my attention and I absolutely loved it.
You can buy your tickets for the Casablanca Marrakech train journey in advance from https://www.oncf.ma or you can buy it from the Casablanca airport.. Be sure to check their hours. Two quality tickets are sold, since there is not much difference, I bought the first class one.. While second class ticket holders sit on back-to-back chairs like bus seats, first class ticket holders sit on more comfortable seats in 6-person rooms.. The only downside is that these rooms are not just for you.. Other than that, it was a peaceful journey full of beautiful Moroccan landscapes.
Shopping in Morocco ?
Do not buy anything without bargaining in Morocco’. If I search for a slogan about Morocco, I can definitely do it. Shopping in Morocco is based on bargaining, I don’t know if this is the case for the locals, but bargaining is a must for tourists.. Because most of the time they can say the prices three times more.. I bought a Morocco T-shirt called 150 dirhams for 50 dirhams. Look, this is the secret; you ask the price of the product, if he says a high price, you say the price, you turn back to the lesson and start leaving. If that price really saves, they call after you, but if it doesn’t, you turn your back.. In other words, the idea of bargaining and circumcision prevails in Morocco.. So remember to bargain but not less than value.
Where to Stay
The most common form of accommodation in Morocco is riads, which are traditional living places.. Riads are houses designed for Moroccan family life with the aim of comfortable living in isolation from outside life.. Today, many of these traditional houses now serve for tourist accommodation.. If you want to experience the culture of Morocco to every bit of it, I suggest you stay at the riad for at least one day.. I made my first day’s stay in the riad that I set from booking before I went.. It was a very nice and different experience, but I got a little cold at night.
I recommend that you ask about warming up at night during your stay in Riyadh.. Apart from this problem it was a very enjoyable experience. The next two nights, I stayed in a village hotel and barber tents as part of the desert tour.. I spent the remaining three nights staying in hotels.. In terms of accommodation, I had quite a variety of experiences, just as I wanted.. In other words, there are a wide variety of accommodation alternatives in Morocco, from traditional accommodation to 5-star hotels and hostels.
Climate of Morocco
The temperate climate in the cities on the ocean coast in Morocco is suitable for the atlas mountain, the Sahara desert. you will encounter a desert climate in nearby areas. In general, the temperature differences between day and night are noticeable in the country.. So if it’s hot during the day, it can be cold at night.. Our spring and autumn seasons are the most ideal periods to travel to Morocco.
What to Bring to Morocco;
When you go to Morocco, I think the most important thing you should bring is thick clothes.. Due to the desert climate prevailing in the country, it is hot in August during the day and cold in December at night.. You definitely need to buy thick top and bottom clothes. In addition to these, don’t forget your t-shirts for the daytime heat.. They wear coats in the evening and t-shirts in the daytime. It’s the place where I said, ‘What is going on, what season are we living in?’. In addition to the clothes, do not forget to take pain relievers with you in case you get sick in case of poor hygiene.
Being Sick in Morocco
This has been my one-on-one experience.. During my stay in Morocco, I caught a cold and became ill due to the temperature differences between day and night.. I asked the officer in the place where I was staying, how I could go to the hospital, and I got the answer that ‘I can go to the pharmacy, in fact, pharmacists are as effective as doctors in Morocco’.. I immediately took a taxi and went to the pharmacy.. After listening to my problem very interested, they showed me some medicines, including antibiotics.. Except for antibiotics, I immediately bought and used them after researching on the internet.. Medications provided temporary relief while I was traveling. Of course, after returning to Turkey, I went to the doctor.
How to Take a Sahara Desert Tour;
One of the most touristic activities in Morocco, of course, is Sahara desert tours.. You can buy the desert tour from the companies you come across as a result of a short research on the internet, or you can buy it when you go there.. If you want to buy while you are there, there are many agencies about desert tour in Jema el fna square, you can buy it from one of them, you can also buy it from the riads you stay.. I stayed in the establishment called riad on the first day and as soon as I went, I immediately asked about the desert tour.. Riyadh employee Hamza said that if I want what they sell, I can buy from them.. He took a pen and paper and explained everything in detail, from where we will be at what time.. Desert tours consist of two types. One is for one night and the other is for two.. After everyone I asked directed me to the two-night tour and Hamza suggested it, I bought the two-night package.. The tour started at 7 am the next morning and continued until 7 pm on the third day.. We were taken to places to visit in Morocco in the first vehicle they bought, and we were brought to a local hotel on the night of the first day we spent constantly taking a break and touring.. After staying here, we were picked up early the next morning and set out on the desert road, so our meeting with the desert took place towards the evening hours of the second day..
After experiencing the sunset of the second day in the Sahara desert, we had fun and stayed overnight in Berber tents.. If you want to have a real desert experience, I definitely recommend you to buy the 2 night package.. I was very satisfied with the tour I bought for 80 euros, which they said was 100 euro per person.. For those who will go to Morocco, I definitely recommend the Sahara desert tour, which is an unforgettable experience..
