Strsbourg Travel Guide and Must Sees in Strasbourg
Strasbourg, the border city of France with Germany, is the capital of the Alsaz region. He traveled back and forth between Germany and France several times throughout history.. It was included in the borders of France after World War II.. That means Strasbourg will show you lots of German-speaking French, and even their famous French pancakes will be cooked the German way!
You may think that Strasbourg is a very serious and boring city, as it is one of the two capitals of the European Union and hosts the Council of Europe and the Court of Human Rights, do not worry. , not at all! We, who went on this trip with 2 mothers of 50-odd years old, managed to entertain them as we had fun ourselves! So think about it, it’s not that boring!
We traveled with pleasure, wrote with pleasure. Here are the Strasbourg Travel Notes!
As for how to reach Strasbourg; Since direct flights from Turkey to Strasbourg have been removed, you can fly to Basel airport and take the buses to Strasbourg from there, it will take you to Strasbourg in 45 minutes.. Stuttgart is another nearby airport, you can fly there too. Since we live in Frankfurt, we took the train from the city’s train station and reached Strasbourg in two hours.. We do not say for nothing, Frankfurt is bad but its surroundings are good!
The weather of Strasbourg has also attracted Germany. If your trip is not between July and September, be sure to bring your thickest clothes with you.. We went in March and you can see how cold it is from the shrunken mothers in the photos!
Places to Visit in Strasbourg
Strasbourg is relatively small If you choose your hotel in the center because it is a city, you can easily walk everywhere in the city and discover its historical texture without the need for public transportation.. Even if you stay in a hotel close to the train station, as we did, you can follow your walking route to Kleber Square, the famous Notre Dame and Kathedral Square. strong>, Gutemberg Palace, Palais Rohan and La Petite France. A little secret, if you follow this route, the city is finished in one day!
As for the details of the city tour, we strongly recommend that you spare some time for Notre Dame Cathedral and take lots of photos.. Because this Notre Dame Cathedral is as beautiful and magnificent as Cologne’s famous Dom Cathedral and Milan’s only Duomo! And even if you are not lazy, you can climb the 329-stepped stairs of the cathedral and look at Strasbourg from above! (6th highest in the world). It’s the cathedral itself.) When you’re done visiting the cathedral, you can enjoy this ‘Old Town’ surrounded by old houses with Alsace architecture in the cathedral square, and you can take shelter in a coffee shop as you will probably pass out from the cold! (We recommend Alsace wines if the coffee doesn’t cut it. )
If you have completed the Cathedral and its surroundings, you can now proceed to Strasbourg’s La Petite Prince (Little France) area. You will walk these streets a lot, first admire the aesthetics of the area and take pictures around the river, take a long look at some of the houses and eat the tiny macarons.. If you have time, you can go down to the riverside and join the 1-hour boat tours.. It is possible to see the whole Strasbourg on these tours.. As a bonus, the German-accented French guides we mentioned at the beginning of the article will tell you stories about the history of Strasbourg and the Germans once on these tours, get ready! Let’s also say that the tour prices are on average 12 Euros per person.
Finally, if you are interested, you can visit the European Court of Human Rights and the Council of Europe buildings.. We skipped this part because we had mothers with us, and frankly, it didn’t interest us that much.
We liked the restaurant Chez Yvonne the most among the places we visited, but if you want, you can open the mouth of the bag a little more. You can try Marco Polo’, the famous restaurant by the canal. On the contrary, you can try Miam Miam Restaurant’ for a lower budget dinner. If you like to drink beer and try beers from different countries, make sure to stop by the Academia de la Biere’ bar, there will definitely be a few you will love from more than 70 types of beer, you won’t regret it! No, we’ll hang out like a local you can go to La Laiterie’. We loved the cafe called La Corde A Linge’ to sit during the day.. If you ask us for a drink recommendation, there is nothing like mulled wine sold on the streets, and their price is around 3 Euros.. We’ll be offended if you don’t try. 🙂
In terms of cost, Strasbourg is an average European city, neither cheap nor expensive.. But here, as in every trip, it is up to you how much money you will spend on the trip.. Instead of staying in chain hotels, you can stay in a decent hotel close to the center for an average of 50 Euros per day (room price), and instead of having your dinner at restaurants by the canal, you can buy a huge pancake for 5 Euros and have your fill.. What we mean is that if your budget is limited, fear not, Strasbourg will please you somehow!
Since Strasbourg is a small city, it is enough for you to visit for 2 days.. We toured the city to the fullest in 2 days, ate plenty of pancakes, drank mulled wine and took photos in the rest of the time.. If you come at Christmas time, you can plan your trip for 3-4 days and enjoy the Christmas markets and even go to Colmar for a day.. Colmar is as touristic as Strasbourg in Alsace and is worth seeing.. You can think of it as an even smaller and more crowded version of Strasbourg.
Hope you don’t get too cold, don’t lose a glove and take lots of photos! Best regards.
