Rhodes Travel Guide
Places to Visit in Rhodes and the Most Beautiful Beaches of Rhodes
Let’s go towards the warm weather in June, the place we will go is not just a sea holiday, it’s beautiful like this We were convinced that Rhodes met all these conditions perfectly when we wanted to have beautiful streets, have life on the streets in the evenings, have good food, and have a feast in our stomach, and we took our breath away in Rhodes! Well, on the way back, writing a ‘Places to Visit in Rhodes’ and ‘Rhodes Travel Letter’ was also a must.
The first time to Greece was 4 years ago. (at that time this blog wasn’t even a vitamin in orange) We went to Thessaloniki, it was even our first trip together. Maybe because we were lovers for only 15 days, maybe because Thessaloniki was really beautiful, we never forgot that trip.. Later, we visited many countries, but we always wanted to go to Greece again and again.. Somehow it didn’t happen until this summer. From now on you can be sure that this blog is in Greek at least once a year!
We loved Rhodes. In a word, we were blown away.. We loved the friendliness of the people, the beauty of the old city center of Rhodes, the beaches, the white city of Lindos, its taverns, everything.. In fact, throughout the trip, we always said, ‘It’s good that we came to Greece again.’. You feel this more especially when visiting the old city part.. Suleymaniye Mosque on one side, Greek Archaeological Museum on the other.. When you say Street of Knights on one side and Greek Taverns on the other, you are looking at history.
Rhodes was captured by the knights in the Middle Ages, and they are the ones who built the castles that made Rhodes Rhodes.. ‘The Palace of the Grand Masters in the old city of Rhodes is also from their time. In the 1500s, the Magnificent takes Rhodes from the knights and the island remains under Ottoman rule for another 400 years.. We loved that everyone left a mark in Rhodes, and the white streets of Lindos.
Are the Greek islands cheap? Since we encounter this question the most, we wanted to get into the subject here.. Prices in the Greek islands are no longer cheap due to the exchange rate, but a little cheaper than the average European cities. We regret to inform you that now we eat and drink, we only pay 50 TL.. We will also try to write down the price of everything we recommend.
When and how to go to Rhodes? The best times of Rhodes
If you ask when to go to Rhodes, when it comes to a Greek island, the most enjoyable time is certain; warm and hot times. Especially the end of May – the beginning of June and September are the most enjoyable times for us.. The crowds are not yet full, the hotels are not full, and the weather is just right to enjoy Rhodes.. We went in mid-June and it was the ideal timing.. The island was neither too crowded nor too hot.
Rhodes may have a different atmosphere in winter, but some places may be closed in winter.. Therefore, if you have planned Rhodes for the winter, it is worth checking it out.
Now let’s come to the How to get to Rhodes and how to reach Rhodes part;
How to go to Rhodes? Getting to Rhodes
Reaching Rhodes is easy because ferries depart from Marmaris, Bodrum and Fethiye to Rhodes.. It takes 1 hour from Marmaris, 2 and a half hours from Bodrum, and 1 and a half hours from Fethiye. way around 40 euros. However, it is really useful to buy the ferry tickets in advance because summer time is running out.. As you can see, our people’s love for the Greek island still remains!
We went from Munich with Aegean Airlines via Athens.. On the way back, we returned to Marmaris by ferry.. We bought ferry tickets from Feribotlines for 40 Euros per person.. If you want, you can also get it from the website of Yeşil Marmaris company.
We did not need a visa since we have a residence permit in Germany, but if you do not have a valid Schengen visa, you can also go to Rhodes by obtaining a visa at the door.
In our opinion, we can give a little information about the Greek islands that can be entered with a visa at the gate;
Rhodes, Chios, Kos Island, Symi, Lesbos and Meis can be entered by obtaining a visa at the gate with a visa application.. It is not possible to travel to other Greek islands with this visa type at the moment.
What is the scope of the Gateway Entry Visa to Greece?
The visa given to Greece with the gate entry visa program is not Schengen, it is That’s why only these 6 Greek islands we have counted and a maximum of 7 nights are given.
How to get an Entry Visa to Greece at the Door?
Actually, it’s simple.. Namely; You look for an entry visa agency at a door (it can be easily found on Google), you deliver your documents about 7-10 days before you go to Greece, and you get your 7-day visa before your trip, that’s it! Of course, the visa fee is still 60 Euros.. There is no escape from paying it!
The most essential part of entering Rhodes is done! Now the sightseeing part is left.
Car Rental in Rhodes
We didn’t take any risks for intra-island transportation in Rhodes and we rented a car for 2 days to tour around the island.. We paid 60 Euros, including insurance, for a 2-day car rental, and we spent 32 Euros on gasoline in total.. We always rent the car from rentalcars.com, this site usually offers the cheapest options and is safe.. Also, we did not pay any parking fee in Rhodes, there are always free places where you can park your car.. It is forbidden to enter the old city area with a car and the penalty is severe.. You have to park the car outside the walls.
It’s okay if you don’t plan to rent a car, because buses go to most places.. Buses depart from a location near Mandraki Port. You can also take the bus from Rhodes old town to Lindos or to all the beaches you want to go to, for a maximum of 5 Euros per person.. As long as you pay attention to the bus times and don’t miss the last bus on the way back, of course(!)
By the way, you can reach Lindos by boats departing from Mandraki Port.. You can check it out in detail at this link.
Accommodation in Rhodes – Where to stay and how many days to stay in Rhodes?
It takes about 2 hours to go from one end of the island to the other in Rhodes.. Therefore, even if you only stay in Rhodes town (Rhodes old city), it is possible to go to the places you want to see on the island for a day.. We stayed in the old town of Rhodes and visited the places we wanted to see on the island during the day and returned to Rhodes town in the evening.
Before we go, I wonder if we should stay in Rhodes old town for two nights and stay in Lindos for the rest of the night. we thought about it, but to be honest, we didn’t want to change hotel for one night.
If you come out more quickly than us, you can stay in Lindos for a night, if you say I’ll be lazy, you can only stay in the old city like us.
In our opinion, the best thing to do is to stay in the old town.. There are many accommodation options in the new city area of Rhodes, but we did not like the new city area very much.. However, if you find suitable accommodation, you can evaluate it.. There is also a ‘5-star hotels’ region 3-4 km away from these two regions.. We do not recommend this place much, because in these hotels, only those who come for a sea holiday stay and there is nothing around.
Our hotel was ‘Casa de la Sera’, which is a small family business.. We were very pleased with the place and the owners.. We can recommend it with a clear heart.
We paid a total of 170 Euros for 3 nights, including breakfast.
If you want a more luxurious place in the old city center, but suitable for its quality, you can consider Rodi.. It was recommended to us a lot and you are lucky if there is a place as it fills up very quickly!
If you are a honeymoon couple, you can check out Elasuya.. It looked quite romantic from us to say!

How many days to stay in Rhodes
As for the question of how many days to stay in Rhodes; we stayed for 3 days, if we calculate that we returned in the evening on the last day, we spent 3.5 days and it was just enough for us.. If you want 1-2 days extra, if you say that one day on the beaches is not enough, you can add another 1-2 days.. Even if you only have 2 days, you can see most of the island’s sights with a busy schedule.
Places to Visit in Rhodes Old Town
From the beginning of the trip ‘Rhodes old town’ We keep saying ‘ part, if you say open this area a little bit, we can say that it is the ancient, medieval and walled part of Rhodes! If you say you did not praise enough, praise a little more, let’s add that it is one of the best preserved medieval cities according to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list.
Yes, the old city is really beautiful.. Those who say that a walled medieval city is bad is probably stinging a hornet or something, but there is no lie, it is filled with so many shops and stalls selling knick-knacks that it has become a bit of a tourist attraction.. Its side streets are still beautiful.
While we were wandering the streets of the old city, we were careful not to walk from the main square called Hippocrates Square.. If you manage to get rid of the uncles who try not to catch tourists on the way and try to put them in their taverns and enter the side streets, everything becomes more beautiful at once.. Tried and confirmed!
The most famous street in the old town Street of the Knights. We are sure that you will love it if you visit early in the morning when no one is around! At the end of the street is the famous ‘Palace of the Grand Masters’ from the time of the knights. If you are interested, you can enter the ‘Archaeological Museum’ inside the palace. It’s a shame to say we missed it.
There are many mosques in Rhodes, even a mosque called ‘Suleymaniye Mosque’. It shouldn’t be hard to guess who built it, of course, it’s the work of Kanuni.
These were the places we visited in the old city.. Places to visit in Rhodes old town more or less like this. The new city part, on the other hand, is urbanized and full of stores, frankly, it did not interest us at all.. We spent an evening here trying one or two of the highly recommended local taverns and that’s it.. There are so many beautiful places to visit in Rhodes that you may not want to spend time in the new city.. For example; Lindos!
Lindos Travel Guide: Places to visit in Lindos
Lindos is a very cute Rhodes village with its narrow streets painted white. There are those who call this place the Santorini of Rhodes, but we don’t think it looks anything like Santorini except its whiteness.. Lindos is one of the places loved at first sight!
It takes 1 hour by car from Rhodes old town to Lindos.. We will also mention the beaches you can stop by on this road.. They deserve special attention.
If we talk about places to visit in Lindos; After touring the streets of Lindos enough, you can walk to the Acropolis on the hill if you wish.. The view of Lindos Acropolis was incredible, but the historical ruins part is a bit of a mess. You can go for the view, but the entrance is 12 Euros per person, a bit expensive. We have to say this.
There are also those who go to the Acropolis with a donkey.. Already narrow streets and a tiny village. It’s clear as honey that there is no need for a donkey. We don’t think such a donkey is necessary.
Lindos has one main beach and another smaller but more beautiful looking Saint Paul’s beach (St.. Paul’s Bay). Beach details are at the end of the article.
Before we went to Rhodes, we read that Monolithos Castle is recommended for sunset in Rhodes.. After Lindos we decided to spend the day here. The road takes about 2 hours from Lindos, you cross exactly to the other side of the island.. What we said about Lindos Acropolis applies here as well.. 15. The view of this castle, which dates back to the 19th century, is really beautiful, but the winds are blowing in the place of the castle.. Those who have a special interest in sunsets will still love it.
There are small tents on the roadside that make homemade wine and olive oil on the way back from here.. We bought ourselves red wine from here.
Let’s come to two places we don’t like in Rhodes; Valley of Butterflies (Valley of Butterflies) and 7 Springs.
Valley of Butterflies
Valley of Butterflies, a valley full of butterflies and walking path. You can come here very easily by buses.. Entry 5 Euros per person. However, it has become so touristic that there are more people than butterflies in the area where you can find butterflies at the bottom of the trees.. This place hit us and we were out before long. Without knowing that we are going to a place that is even more touristic and less loved!
7 Springs
7 Springs, 15 km from Butterfly Valley, is referred to as a ‘mountain restaurant with a mountain view’.. Maybe we would have stopped if we didn’t go with such an expectation and saw this place while crossing the road, but the scenery is not special in its environment and it is very crowded because of “hear and come” like us.. There is a small waterfall and a tiny tunnel nearby.. We were not impressed with either. As you can see, a Blog on the Road didn’t like this place.. We would rather spend the time we spend here on the beach or in the tavern. Speaking of the beach;
The Most Beautiful Beaches of Rhodes
First the good news, there is no entrance fee to the beaches in Rhodes. Most beaches have a business and the business only charges you for sunbeds + umbrellas. The price also varies between 5 -8 Euros per person.
If you have little time in Rhodes and are looking for a beach close to the old city center of Rhodes, we recommend ‘Elli Beach’. Here’s one too. In addition to the sunbed, you can rent an air mattress if you want.. We were more curious about the next beaches, so we didn’t swim here.. Still, we can say that the sea looks quite beautiful.. You can also come with children comfortably because the beach is sandy.
There is also Kalithea Beach a little ahead of Elli Beach, but we did not go there.. Since these two beaches are very close to the city center, it gets crowded in the afternoon. It is a good idea to go early in the morning and get a seat.
Anhtony Quinn’s Bay and Ladiko Beach Rhodes Two very very beautiful beaches, 15 km from the center. You can walk from one to the other.. So if you’re wondering, you can go to both in the same day.
Anthony Quinn’s Bay has a better view, but the beach itself is rocky. We chose Ladiko Beach for swimming and sunbathing because we think sand beach always beats rocky beach.. We gave a 2-3 hour break from the world by giving 5 Euros per person for sunbeds + umbrellas.. the sea was very beautiful. We had our lunch at this establishment, the prices are normal.
Lindos Beach
Lindos Beach is the bigger of the two beaches of Lindos.. You can easily take a beach break here as it is intertwined with Lindos.. We didn’t go into one, but the sandy beach looked quite nice.. We left the most beautiful one for last!
When we think of Rhodes beaches, there is only one image that comes to mind for us, and it belongs to Saint Paul’s Bay! This is the beautiful bay at the entrance of Rhodes.. Surrounded by rocks, but the beach is sandy and pristine. Especially if you enter early in the morning before it gets crowded, the sea is magnificent! If we had only one beach right in Rhodes, we would use this place without hesitation.
If the beaches are ok, we can move on to the most important part of the trip, of course, eating and drinking!
Rhodes Food and Drink Guide
Eating and Drinking Recommendations in Rhodes / Where to eat in Rhodes?
One thing is clear to everyone, I think, eating and drinking is a significant part of the trip to Greece.. We can say that it is an indispensable part of the trip.. No country cuisine makes us as happy as Greek cuisine.
And of course taverns.. When we think of a tavern, we always think of good Greek home cooking, a shabby place and a sincere conversation. Whichever tavern you go to, these things are in the nature of being a tavern.. Long live taverns!
We ate a lot on this Greek trip, probably because we remember the taverns more than the places we visited.. We are offended by those who return without trying the Greek ‘mousakka’, ‘caciki’, ‘dolmaki’, ‘cizbiz meatballs’ and baby calamari, we have already said that….
Kelari Meze Bar
This is by far our favorite place in Rhodes! We came 2 nights in a row and had the best 2 nights we’ve had recently. This is an appetizer in one of the side streets in the old city.. There is also live music on Saturdays.. We loved their appetizers and Greek Salad. We loved the sincerity of the operator.. When leaving Rhodes here 3. We may be a little sad that we can’t come once! We paid 30 Euros for two people 4 different appetizers + Greek salat + half a liter of homemade wine + half a liter of ouzo.
Thomas’s Taverna
Our second favorite place is Thomas’s Taverna in the new city area. happened. In the new city area, there is an area completely devoted to taverns, there is nothing but a tavern in this area anyway, a tavern is a must!
Tavern OK
Some taverns are purely tourist-oriented and therefore crowded both expensive. The most popular of these taverns is Taverna OK. As we passed by, we saw the queue of tourists waiting and gave up on entering immediately.. Thomas’s Taverna right next to us looked much more modest, much more beautiful.. The prices are affordable, and Thomas from Thessaloniki, who has been doing this business for 30-odd years, takes care of everyone individually (I guess that’s how the Greek shopkeepers are).
Koukos
Another popular tavern in this region Koukos. The environment is really nice, but the prices were a bit expensive for us.. If you don’t feel like escaping when you see tourists like us, you can try it.
Taverna Kostas
Taverna Kostas was another place we found by chance while wandering around the old town and we loved it very much.. We love such quiet places for some reason.
To Steno
If you go a little further from the center, there is a family business called ‘To Steno’, we loved the appetizers here too.. You won’t have any trouble choosing from the menu anyway; Dolmaki, wrap, tzatziki)
Todo Bien
On our last night (with the depression of leaving Rhodes) we went to Todo Bien’, famous for Cuban cocktails. It’s the kind of place to go if ‘if the tavern doesn’t cut it’. Prices were also very affordable and open until 4 am.. The operators were also very sweet people.
We had our lunch at Village Café in Lindos.. It wasn’t bad but maybe you can also try the highly recommended Mavrikos. We paid 30 Euros for two people at Village Café, it seemed a bit expensive. If you want lunch with a view of Lindos, our vote is for ‘Giorgos 2 Food’ on the top of Lindos beach.. Another famous tavern in Lindos is ‘Nefeli’. We missed this place because we were about to crack, forgive us!
While returning from Lindos to Rhodes, we wanted to go to the Taverna Grande Blue, of which we heard a lot, but it did not fit our way, this place was a bit stuck inside us.. However, when we look at what’s coming, we say ‘but we ate well’.
Whatever it is, it is pita gyros for Greeks! The only difference is that the lavash is a little thicker.. You will always come across ‘gyroscu’ in Rhodes. We loved to eat gyros for lunch because it was practical and cheap.
The craze of the Greeks for drinking frappe and freddo cappuccino somehow did not cover Rhodes.. However, in our own way, we continued this tradition and drank at least 3 frappes a day.. We really enjoyed the frappe at Captain’s House Bar in Lindos. Our favorite coffee shop was by far the ‘Il Borgo’ at the entrance of the old city.. Il Borgo heart we….
We almost forgot about ice cream! We also ate ice cream at Porca Vacca, this was the most recommended ice cream shop.. We couldn’t see a feature of it, but okay, normal ice cream shop.
And if you get yourself a Mastika liqueur on your way back, it’s okay, the food and drink work is done!
Rhodes is for us, where we ate a lot, chatted, fell in love with Greece once again, every year. It was a trip where we promised a new Greek island at least once, had fun and, above all, were very, very happy.
We wish you the same.
Have a nice trip, Greek Send our love to
