“The magical capital of Tuscany”, “The city of Da Vinci”, “The cradle of the Renaissance”, “Pearl of Northern Italy” and many more… Florence, a city that deserves dozens of adjectives added to its front. So much so that the way to absorb the culture and history of Italy passes through here.. It’s been a year since we met Florence.. Although it is not possible to get enough of this city with a four or five-day trip, I know that our paths will cross again in the future! My sister Selten is much luckier than me in this regard.. She spent a year and a half in Florence, where she received a master’s degree in fashion.. While I couldn’t lift my head from work here, he didn’t compare to me with the photos he shared
Florence, although it seems like a touristic city, it is the most preferred place for university education, master’s degree and even Erasmus. one of the cities. I also asked Selten questions about the education and living conditions there for those who are thinking of doing a master’s degree in Florence, and she shared her experiences.. Let’s get to know Florence better together…
How did the idea of choosing fashion for master’s degree come about?
Q: Fashion has been a field that has interested me since my high school years.. I used to collect foreign editions of fashion magazines every month, cut out the combinations I liked and keep them.. I had a few good work experiences in the field of fashion after university, and then I decided to study this business.
We agree that Italy is the first country that comes to mind in the field of fashion, so why did you choose Florence?
Q: As we all know, Milan is the first city to stand out in Italy in the field of fashion.. The organization of fashion weeks in Milan is undoubtedly an important factor in this. But Florence, besides its different historical texture, is the place where the first formations in the field of fashion emerged in Italy.. I thought it would be a privileged experience to study fashion in an atmosphere that nurtured creativity and in a city that was the cradle of medieval art.
How did your application process for graduate school in Florence go?
Q: When I decided to apply for my master’s degree, I proceeded with Vera Educazione, an overseas education agency I trust.. After deciding to study fashion purchasing and product management, it was necessary to attend a school interview and pass a written exam.. After successfully passing these exams, I was entitled to enroll in the school.
Have you had any difficulties getting a visa?
Q: High I had traveled to several European countries prior to my license.. One of them was Italy.. Acceptance paper approved by the school, accommodation reservation and one year cash presentation at the bank were among the most important documents.. I got my visa in two days with no problems.
Is it easy to find a house in a country or city you don’t know?
Q: After my graduate school was finalized, I immediately started doing research on renting a house on the internet.. When I came across a suitable flat on the Florence apartments Italy site, I immediately forwarded my request to the other party. I can say that I find the house easier because I want to rent a studio flat.. Those who wish can also turn to more economical options such as room rental.. The area where historical buildings are located in Florence (Piazza della Signoria, Piazza del Duomo etc.) always has more expensive options.. I found the house I was looking for, 3 minutes from the Pitti Palace, on the opposite side of the Arno river.. All expenses such as internet, water, electricity and fuel in the house I rented for 700 Euros per month were also included in the price.. Those who want to rent a room can halve this price.. It is also possible to find more affordable rental houses out of the city.
Is living in Florence expensive? What would you like to say if you compare it with Istanbul?
Q: Although Florence is overshadowed by Rome or Milan, prices are not like that at all.. The most important reason for the high prices in this city, which is flooded by art and history lovers every season of the year, is the constant demand.. It’s easier to find an option for every budget in Istanbul. The historical district in Florence is both too touristic and prices are high. In the region on the other side of the river, it is possible to find relatively more affordable and local options, but if we take into account the increasing foreign exchange prices, yes, life in Florence is more expensive than Istanbul.. For example, when you enter a cafe to drink coffee, you will pay an extra 2-3 euro fee if you sit at the table, and you are faced with a cover fee called “coperto” in restaurants.
Did the Italians have any cultures you couldn’t get used to? What has challenged you the most?
Q: Italians are very similar to us Turks in many ways.. It can be annoying that warm and enthusiastic Italians are sometimes rules.. In most places, including the city center, it is difficult to find a store that is open after 18:00. Even if it is a few minutes past 18:00, you have no luck.. And I guess I miss ordering take-out the most! There is no choice but a few pizzerias, because Italians love to go to restaurants and have long dinners.
How was an ordinary day in Florence?
Q: In the morning, I was usually busy with lectures, then in the afternoon I spent time in the school library for both projects and research.. When it was 17.00, it was indispensable to enjoy an aperitivo with my friends.. It was an invaluable habit for me to wake up early in the morning or to take a walk to the Piazza Michelangelo hill near my house on the weekends and to look at the fascinating Florence skyline after a 40-minute climb. Can you tell us a little about those who don’t know?
Q: Top 5 fashion schools of the “Business of Fashion” site, which is considered an authority in the field of fashion Polimoda is a school that I can recommend in this field with its quality education staff and experience in fashion education. It was one of my greatest chances to get a master’s degree here.
How was the school environment? Did you adapt easily?
Q: Polimoda, where an old medieval villa has been restored and turned into a school, gives a visual pleasure to watch. It was amazing to meet fashion enthusiasts from all over the world.. You have so much to talk about with people with whom you share common interests, which made it easy for me to adapt to school.

I am an Italian Culture graduate, I also went to language courses in Italy.. Therefore, I never had any difficulties in social life and I had the chance to improve my language.
