Kartepe ski resort is Turkey’s newest ski resort. Keltepe, a district of Kocaeli, formerly known as Keltepe, is located between the Gulf of Izmit and Lake Sapanca.. It is located at an altitude of 1600 meters on one of the summits of Samanlı Mountain, the second highest mountain of the Marmara region.. It is closer to Istanbul than other ski resorts, with a distance of 110 kilometers, that is, an average of 1 hour.. The first information for this article, which I will give information about Kartepe, is that the best time to spend a nice winter activity is between December and February.. It has a shorter season compared to Uludağ.
Although Kartepe ski resort is new, it has been preferred a lot in recent years.. The ski center, which is among the highest points of the Marmara region, is flooded with visitors every year for the snow holiday in the winter season.. Due to its close location to Istanbul, it can be planned as a daily or two-day weekend, making it a nice escape point.. I make sure to go at least once every winter.. I was lucky to go 4 times this winter. I recommend you to stay away from this period if you are not obligated, especially since children are preferred so much during the semester.. In fact, it would be better to go on weekdays if possible..

How to Get to Kartepe
The distance between Istanbul and Keltepe is 110 kilometers, and the distance from Kocaeli to the center is 7 kilometers.. It is located very close to the center of Kocaeli.. You have to use the road to reach the ski center.. You can go to the ski center with your private car, taxi or tour bus.
Reaching Kartepe by Car
If you are coming from the direction of Istanbul with your car, you will use the ‘East Izmit’ exit via TEM.. After this exit, the signs saying Kartepe will accompany you along the way.. As you enter the mountain road and start climbing, you will gradually begin to see snow puddles.. If you are going here with your car, you must either have winter tires or have chains on your tires.. While climbing the mountain, you may encounter the gendarmerie control, so be prepared for your vehicle’s tires.. When you reach the top, you will see the attendants who charge the entrance fee.. You can park your car for free after making your payment..
As of 2020, Kartepe entrance fee is 30 TL
Kartepe’ Getting to the City by Taxi
You can reach Maşukiye by bus.. You can hire a taxi from Maşukiye to the ski resort.. If you gather a few friends and go out, you can bring them at an affordable price.
Hiring Ski Equipment in Kartepe
You can rent your ski equipment in the shops located at the lower parts before going to the climbing path, or at the summit, which is the ski center point.. I can’t say it would be cheaper if you buy it from here.. Because the prices at both points are almost the same in total.. In other words, there are places where you can rent ski equipment both before you go to the summit and on the summit..
How are the Ski Center Tracks?
Kartepe ski tracks appeal to skiers of all levels, from amateur to professional. There are 4 ski tracks of different lengths.. It has a nice feature compared to other ski resorts, the view of Sapanca lake is unfolding before your eyes while skiing..
Chairlift
Climbing a chairlift is very popular here as well as in Uludağ.. You can get on the chairlift without equipment or with your ski equipment.. Let me specifically point out that you should be careful about getting on and off the chairlift.. Since it is an open system on all sides, you may run the risk of falling if you make a wrong move.. I didn’t have a problem, but I heard a lot of people around who had problems.. So you better be careful. Chairlift 2020 prices, short tour 25 TL, long tour 50 TL to the top.
SkiPass Fees in Kartepe
- Short tour single exit is 30 TL.
- Long tour single exit is 50 TL.
- Unlimited weekdays 120 TL per day.
- Unlimited weekend 150 TL per day.
Which Activities Can You Do?
When you think of Kartepe ski resort, don’t just think of skiing.. Here you can do many fun activities besides skiing.. Here are Kartepe prices. Most preferred atv, utv, snow bike and ziplines. These activities are very nice for those who are not interested in skiing.. But I can’t say that the prices are very affordable.. I learned that utv half hour fee is 500 TL at the weekend.. I can say that they look very fun, but when the price is so high, it is not possible to rent.. When the prices are like this, I can say that playing with snow is the cheapest and the most fun.
Kartepe Food Prices
Kartepe ski resort did not surprise me in terms of food prices either.. As with many things, food and beverage prices are quite high.. I gave 10 TL for a glass of tea in Uludağ, and a glass of tea is 10 TL in Kartepe, but luckily the glass here was a little big.. The price of sausage bread sold in the open area in the square is 30 TL, the price of meatball bread is 35 TL. So as you can see, we would do well if we bring our meals from home.. We would not have to wait in line and we would not have shaken our budget..
Accommodation
There is 1 hotel for you to stay within the borders of Kartepe ski resort.. green park hotel. Since there is no hotel variety, the prices are determined by one hand.. In other words, if you are in the season, you may encounter high numbers in hotel prices.. If you say you don’t have to stay here, you can find alternative places in Maşukiye.. If you live in Istanbul like me, I recommend you to go and return for a day..
This is a great article that you must read before going to Kartepe.. It will be more memorable if you watch my youtube video as well as the article.. I wish you a good trip in advance.
