Innsbruck Travel Guide
Because we lived in Frankfurt for the first year, we could not fully understand, know and live this Austrian Alps and Bavaria geography!
A lot has changed since we moved to Munich and we’ve become very interested in the Austrian Alps, Bavaria and surroundings.. Spending 3 days in Bodensee, which was considered as Germany’s promenade in the first month, was not enough and our second trip was to the Tyrol region of Austria. You can read our article about this fairy-tale-like castle, named Neuschwanstein Castle, here.
Let’s get to the Innsbruck Travel Notes!
Before You Go:
Innsbruck is the center of Austria’s Tyrol region and is famous for winter tourism (especially ski slopes), but we loved the summer season too! You can go summer – winter, pamper yourself with the trio of ski – romance – wine in winter, swim in the surrounding lakes in summer, enjoy the endless greenery and of course, spread out in its parks and drink wine. we didn’t know it was a city and we went without doing much research, saying ‘whatever comes our luck’. We’ve had great luck, we’ll get to that part!
Normally, we would expect a city that we love so much and especially with such a wonderful nature to be as popular as Salzburg and Graz.. Either it has not yet been discovered or it has been discovered but we did not realize it.. We are not sure about this part.
Transportation:
We went by train from Munich. Let’s write by thinking that you will come from Istanbul; Unfortunately, there is no direct flight from Turkey to Innsbruck yet.. You can fly to Vienna or Munich, and you can easily reach Innsbruck by train, bus or rent a car from these cities.. It takes about 1.5 -2 hours by train from Munich. It takes 2-2.5 hours in Vienna.. You can use the following site to look at public transportation options and prices between Vienna – Munich and Innsbruck.
If you want to come by connecting, Lufthansa’s connecting flights from Frankfurt seem to be the most convenient.. You can also look at them.
City transportation is simple dears, just walk! Since the city is tiny, you can walk everywhere easily, you can take the bus at the point where you do not want to walk.. The cable car is used for the ski slopes, but we will come to this part.
Accommodation and How many days to stay and Is it expensive? :
Innsbruck is a tiny city. More precisely, there are endless mountains, greenery, roads and ski slopes, but the places we call the city center and which you will visit as a tourist are tiny. If you are coming in the summer and you are not going to ski, you can plan a 2-day plan to devote 1 full day to Innsbruck and one full day to the surrounding places (such as Landsee.
If you are coming for skiing, the days you will ski + 1 day (
Hotels and Airbnb houses in Innsbruck are expensive, especially in winter.. You can go anywhere in the city by bus.. So you don’t need to choose the hotel in the center, just find out if it is close to public transport.. We did not stay at the hotel this time because we have relatives in Innsbruck and they hosted us. Greetings and lots of love to Eylem, Salih and all the people of Innsbruck Karakuş if they read this?
As for the expensive part, we can say that it is like an average European city. Not as cheap as a Berlin, but not as expensive as a Zurich. It’s somewhere in the middle, near expensive. There are still many cheap alternatives, don’t worry.
Moroccan Traveling:
Now you have come to Innsbruck and watched the romantic state of the city surrounded by snowy mountains on the slopes of the mountains for a while, actually even this If you think it’s enough, but you can’t do without visiting the places that need to be visited and seeing the places that need to be seen, here you go! ?
Altstadt:
You’ll probably go through the ‘old town‘ part of the city dozens of times already, but we thought we’d write it anyway.
When you search the city on Google images, this is the busiest area with colorful rows of row houses.
The restaurants around are quite expensive, but there are many sweet places where you can take a coffee break.. Here you can have a coffee, take some photos, enter the side streets and enjoy the view of the city surrounded by mountains.
Triumphpforte (Arch of Victory): One of the symbols of Inssbruck. You can think of this door as a tiny version of Berlin Tor.. It had many admirers, but it did not impress us much.
Dom Zu Sankt Jacob (St Jakob Cathedral): This cathedral, located in Altstadt, is a must for every Christian city.. If you’re interested in architecture, you can go inside and take lots of photos, we didn’t go in (wait, bro, don’t you say there is no place that interests you!?. It’s coming!)
Stadtturm (Tower): If you like to watch cities from above and don’t want to go far by cable car, the opportunity has come to you.. You can climb this 30-odd-long tower and watch Innsbruck from the top. Now if you ask us, the thing about this city is to look at the mountains from the city.. So look from below, not from above.. That’s why we didn’t go out, but we’re not in a position to stop what’s out!
Goldenes Dachl (Golden Roof): Ours make gold leaf, but Austrians are missing! The golden roof in the middle of this old city is a balcony roof that you will encounter in the city square.. More precisely, the canopy of a balcony made entirely of gold.. MS. It was built in the 1500s for the Emperor to watch the performances.. Does it sound familiar from somewhere?
Schloss Ambras (Ambras Castle): If you want to walk to this castle, which is approximately 4-5 km from the city center, you can walk in about 1 hour. Another alternative is to go by train.. If you want to go by train, it takes about 10 minutes.. We chose to go on foot.. You can also visit the park around the castle, especially in summer.. But if you say you don’t want to walk that far for the castle and park duo, now we are bringing another and more beautiful park to you. Here is the Hofburg Palace and its garden, namely the Hofgarten! It was forbidden to sit in this garden, which is very close to the old city area of the city, until 1-2 years ago (so that the grass would not be damaged), but now they have allowed it and young people and tourists spend a lot of time in the garden in summer and winter.. If you feel tired from touring the city, you can come here and lie down on the grass (of course we did!)
Nordkette: Mainly Innsbruck to Nordkette (northern chains), a part of the Alps, You can go out with a combination of funicular and cable car. Unfortunately it’s a bit salty and costs about 29 Euros. Oh, of course, you can reach here with a 4-hour climb if you want.. In addition, as additional information that concerns architects in particular; stations bear the signature of Zaha Hadid.
Cloud9: This is an IgloBar, where you can reach the center by cable car for 18 Euros round trip! Imagine an igloo-bar in the middle of the mountains in the snow! If you come in winter time, this bar, where you can enjoy much more, is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., except on Fridays, and open from 9 a.m. to 23 p.m. on Fridays. Since we came to Innsbruck in summer, this is the only place we thought we couldn’t enjoy enough and regretted that we didn’t go.. It’s famous for its cocktails, let’s say! Also check the website before you go, there are sometimes events and concerts! Here you go
Lans Lake (Lanser SEE):
Every trip has its ‘our favorite and unforgettable’ time, Innsbruck’s unforgettable place for us is the surroundings of Lans Lake it happened. Before we went, we heard that the lakes around Innsbruck are very beautiful, and it exceeded our expectations! We couldn’t ski, but we were able to enjoy the lakes because we went in the summer. ?
Lans lake is essentially a lake that has been cleaned and turned into a beach, and Austrians come here to swim in sunny weather.. Entrance is 6 Euros per day, but if you want to visit the beach and take photos, or sit at the bar, not swim in the lake, you don’t have to pay at the entrance (we didn’t give it).. We did it well, we did it well because the surroundings of the lake were incredibly beautiful and on the way back we walked 10 km to the center of Innsbruck.. Those roads, that greenery, that peace were incredibly beautiful.. If you don’t have a car, you can also come here by bus.. It is enough to take the bus from any point in the city and get off at the ‘Lanser See’ stop.. Just look at the bus times, because there is no bus every minute and you may need to decide on your return bus in advance.
If you have more time, you can also go to the Natterer Seee, which we have not tried and heard a lot.
Eating and Drinking Moroccan:
Even though eating and drinking in Innsbruck is a bit expensive compared to other Austrian cities, there are budget-friendly places and if you protect yourself from ‘tourist trap’ places, you can eat and drink very cheaply.. Here are the places we tried and disliked;
Machete–Burrito Kartel: If you like Mexican cuisine, you’re likely to like this burrito place! We paid 8 Euros for Burrito + beer and we liked it very much.. This was the first place we took a note saying we recommend.
My Indigo: This multi-purpose and vegan-friendly cafe, which is actually located in many parts of Europe, offers a wide range of products from homemade vegan cookies to herbal teas. It has a very diverse menu from tomato soup to noodle and the atmosphere is very sympathetic.. Since it is in the Eskişehir region, it is a place where you can have a comfortable meal or take a sweet break.. It has a branch in Munich, but it can’t come close to the one in Innsbruck Make sure to go to the Markthalle. You can have a very cheap meal and try different flavors.. By the way, it is closed on Sundays.
Invinum: We did not like this place, which is known as a wine tasting bar.. Unless you’re a wine connoisseur, we think you don’t need to go.. It’s a very flat place and its snacks and meals are quite expensive.. This place has failed. Another failed place was the Cafe Sacher, which also has a very famous branch in Vienna.. Since it is right in the middle of the old town square, we are overwhelmed by both the soggy crowd and such popular places.. We just stuck our heads out. Instead, you can try the ‘Cafe Bar Mustache on the parallel street.
We haven’t eaten any of the classic Austrian dishes, as we have been in Austria before and were looking for a somewhat affordable place.. If you want to try it, tafelspitz (a traditional meat dish made from beef). It comes with boiled vegetables and spices), goulash soup (this is not exactly Austrian cuisine, but it is consumed a lot in this geography), Pfandl (again, a meat dish) and Austrian beers or red wines.
The juices are of course. we drank from the tap! Don’t pay for the water, you’re at the bottom of the Alps, just fill it out from the tap!
If you want to buy chocolate, there is Kaufhaus on Maria-Theresien Strasse, you can find hundreds of kinds of chocolate in it.. Prices are also very affordable compared to touristic places.
KAYAK! :
We are sure that those who read this article want to go to Innsbruck in winter rather than summer, it is a very famous ski resort.. Since we went in the summer, it was not possible to ski, but we received information from our relatives living in Innsbruck (they say firsthand) to write to the blog. around 270km. Centers: Nordkette, Patscherkofel, Azamer Lizum, Muttereralm, Kühtai, Rangger Köpfl, Glungezer, Schlick 2000 and Stubai Glacier. Axamer Lizum is especially interested. This center is 15 km away from the city and can be reached by public transport.. If you want to take a snowboard lesson when you go, they recommend the Olympic Ski School here.
