Our country has a lot of places worth seeing.. But the most important ones are definitely the world heritage lists in Turkey.. You may know many of them, but we are sure there are some that you do not know.
HISTANBUL’S HISTORICAL AREAS
The city, which was the capital of Rome, Byzantium and the Ottoman Empire, was included in the World Cultural Heritage List in 1985. Since the historical peninsula is home to many historical buildings, this is the point where the most tourist visits take place.
DIVRİĞİ ULU MOSQUE – DARÜŞŞİFA – SİVAS
The mosque, in which Anatolian traditional stonemasonry is at the forefront, has two domes and was included in the Unesco List in 1985. Since the top of the cathedral is covered with wire, those who have the thought of taking a landscape picture should not torture themselves by climbing all the stairs for nothing! You should see the Cross flower and the Roman stone in front of the cathedral while you’re gone.
HATTUŞAŞ – HITITE CAPITAL – ÇORUM
The Hittites, one of the great powers of the Ancient East such as Egypt, Babylon and Mitanni, ruled a large part of Anatolia until about 1200 BC.. Hattusa, which was the capital of the Hittite Empire, is 80 km from Çorum.. Listed by UNESCO in 1986.
NEMRUT – ADIYAMAN
Known as the world’s highest open-air museum, Nemrut was included in the UNESCO List in 1987. King of Commagene I, who ruled here. He had the tomb built by Antiochos for the gods and the statues up to ten meters high.. Watching the sunrise and sunset accompanied by the most magnificent ruins of the Hellenistic period will be an unforgettable memory.
XANTHOS – ANTALYA
The independent city of Xanthos, the largest administrative center of Lycia in ancient times, came under the rule of the Persians. The burned city was rebuilt. After that, the Romans, Byzantines and Arabs entered the city respectively.. The place where we can see the effects of Lycian traditions, Roman and Hellenistic periods in the buildings built by every civilization that settled in the city was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1988.
LETOON – ANTALYA
In ancient times, it was the religious center of Lycia.. In Letoon, temples of Apollo, Artemis, Leto, as well as monasteries, fountains, ruins of Roman theater were found.. Listed with Xanthos on Letoon.
SAFRANBOLU
14 in the city, which takes its name from the plant that grows in the region.. Since the beginning of the century, the Ottomans have established dominance.. The present state of the city 17. and 18th century. has also taken. The city of Safranbolu on the Black Sea coast was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994.
TROVA ANCIENT CITY
The ancient city, which has survived to the present day with its 5000-year-old history and is the subject of Homer’s Iliad, is a very important place today.. Due to its location, the city has played an important role in terms of the commercial and cultural connections of the civilizations that ruled in this region with other regions.
EDİRNE SELİMİYE MOSQUE
The Mosque, which Mimar Sinan calls my masterpiece, was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2011.. Today, it is the only mosque in the world to be included in the UNESCO list.
CATALHÖYÜK NEOLITHIC CITY – KONYA
Konya’s 45. The 9,400-year-old Neolithic settlement located in Çumra, km south of Turkey, was discovered on July 1, 2012.. It has taken its place in the World Heritage List.
CAPPADOCIA 6 GOREME NATIONAL PARK
This is the land of fairy chimneys of extraordinary beauty and unique in the world.. 7. and 13th century. Christians, who were subjected to oppression, came here by escaping.. Therefore, Göreme is an important center for Christians.. Many areas in Göreme, which was included in the UNESCO List in 1985, are also included in the list; Derinkuyu and Kaymaklı cities, Theodoro Church, Karain Pigeons and Soğanlu Archaeological site.
HIERAPOLIS – PAMUKKALE
The ancient city is called “Holy City” (holy city) in the Archeology literature due to the presence of many known temples and religious structures in the city.. Although there is not enough information and resources about the foundation of the city, II, one of the kings of Pergamon,. by Eumenes II BC. It is known that it was founded at the beginning of the century.. The city was included in the UNESCO List in 1988.
