We hit the road on a spring morning as part of the Weekend Trips with Children, Istanbul 2.5 hours after we set off in the morning, we arrive at Edirne around noon, without ever leaving the highway.
CIĞERCİ AYDIN
First of Edirne Places to Visit Selimiye is at the top of the list We visit the Mosque‘, then find the famous Ciğerci Aydın, we have 2 full 2 half lungs lick.
According to Istanbul standards, halves are full portions and wholes are in the amount of two portions, without exaggeration. It is an admirable situation that the place is full even when it is half time.. I don’t know if I ate liver or doritos poncho, there is no such crunch, no such taste. As a child, the only food he didn’t like was liver, and I love to eat this liver.. We happily fill our stomachs and say goodbye to Ciğerci Aydin and walk towards Saraclar Caddesi which is closed to traffic.
EDİRNE SARACLAR AVENUE We are sipping our tea at a poolside cafe in the middle of this street, which is one size between Istanbul’s Istiklal Avenue and Izmit’s Fethiye Caddesi. The street is obviously recently landscaped, very wide and beautiful, but the surrounding buildings are quite old.. I feel like I’m in a movie set where old time movies are made. But on the other hand, a modernity is not felt in the environment.. The street is full of cafes, restaurants and bars.. There are so many Bulgarians walking around, and lots of students.. This city has a university town feel to it.. We think that a comfortable environment, easily accessible distances, a good time as a student is in Edirne.
KARAAĞAÇ AND OLD TRAIN STATION
After afternoon passing by Tunca and Meriç bridges and a forest road We reach Karaağaç. They turned the old train station into an open air museum. At Karaağaç Train Station, we sometimes get on the train car, sometimes we walk on the rails. Children are very impressed by trains and rails, they do not want to leave. Even though they are persuaded to go, they are clamoring to go again throughout the whole trip.. ‘The train has left’ we say, ‘The old train cannot go’, the jackals say.
EDİRNE KENT FOREST
Again, wandering in Edirne City Forest on the shore of the Meriç River in Karaağaç, We are pleasing the hearts of the lambs in a beautiful park area, sipping our tea in a tea garden in the forest.
We woke up early in the morning, we were slowly getting tired, we returned to the city center, settled in our hotel and took a nap as a family.. Up to 3 hours! In the evening, we go to Zinciralti Tavern on Saraclar Caddesi upon the family place recommendation from the hotel.
ZINCIRALTI MAIN
The environment is calm, the place is small, warmly decorated It has a boutique tavern atmosphere, only three or five young couples are sitting.. Our table is rigged. Appetizers and meatballs are also very delicious.. I can say that I ate grilled meatballs of that flavor only at Filizler in Tuzla in Istanbul.. The place fills up when the match is over.. And when the fasil group starts, don’t touch our pleasure.
The lambs are in such an environment for the first time, the boy stares at the goldsmith. The group is very successful, they play like Dolapdere Big Gang. Our people are the mascot of the environment, Ali Baba’s Farm is played in their honor for a while, and those animal sounds coming out of the quarry arouse even us astonishment.. After a while, the expected malfunction begins, drawing notebooks come to our rescue.. The lambs take turns joining in the fun in the mother’s lap while the mother is beating their belly.. As a final trump card, they watch cartoons on the laptop and as the clock approaches 12, we leave the venue before our car turns into a pumpkin, thank goodness for that..
BULGAR CHURCH
After a nice breakfast at our hotel, we go to Bulgarian Church , which is a small Orthodox church in the back streets of Edirne’s Uzun Kaldirim district, to attend the Sunday mass.
Saraçlar Caddesi for the last time, We buy raw meatballs from Köfteci Osman. We find a ready-made barbecue from somewhere and go straight to the urban forest that we saw yesterday.. Since we went early, we find a nice table overlooking the Eric River, our father lights the barbecue, we cook our meatballs to the exact consistency we want and have them drink. Like a puppy, the boy scrambles in any environment he finds, making himself a quilt from leaves.
At three in the afternoon, we get in our car and set off for our home. On the way back, little bugs are crawling on us in the car.. The kids are still whining about let’s not go home, let’s go to the train, but they fall asleep before they even leave the parking lot. Me too… When we wake up, we are on the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge. We seem to be teleported from Edirne to Istanbul.
