Years 1526′ The preparations in the palace were over when he showed the. Now Suleiman the Magnificent and his army had no obstacle to move from Istanbul.. The advance of the army continued in great discipline.. Entering the cultivated land, grazing animals there, taking the animals of the Christian people or harming them in any other way was strictly prohibited, and these prohibitions were fully complied with.
The army’s target was Hungary and They reached this target in 4 months.. At the end of the Battle of Mohacs, Hungary joined the Ottoman lands.. Years after Kanuni’s expedition, a new convoy set off from Çırağan, another Ottoman palace in Istanbul.. But underneath them were Porsches instead of horses.. It took them 4 days, not 4 months, to reach Hungary.
By Porsche in July 2012 we were at the Porsche Performance Drive event, which was held for the first time. Approximately 40 journalists took part in the event, in which 10 vehicles from Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, Switzerland and Czech Republic participated.. Two cars and 6 journalists from Turkey took part in this race.. The target was to reach the capital of Hungary, Budapest, within four days, within the specified times and with the least fuel consumption.. During this semi-race event, we had the opportunity to explore Varna, Bucharest, Sibiu and Budapest, albeit briefly.
Impressions of Istanbul-Varna with Cars
The Istanbul-Varna stage of the first day of the competition started with the start of Turkish vehicles from Çırağan Palace. All cars set off for the first stop of the stage, the Dereköy border gate, with an interval of two minutes.. This 255 km stage had to be completed in three hours and with minimal fuel consumption.. Teams that finished this stage early or late received extra penalty points as per the rules.. Cars were tracked throughout the race with GPS devices and gas tanks were always sealed.. In this way, the competitors were prevented from breaking the rules.. So, you see, the rules of the competition were as strict as the rules set by Kanuni before the expedition.. We even had the chance to observe how the illegal refugees caught at the Bulgarian border were handed over to the Turkish authorities during the waiting period of approximately 2 hours at the Dereköy border gate.. I can say that we felt like we were in the customs of a third world country during those two hours.. However, it is a fact that our astonishment increased when we crossed the Bulgarian border.. It was really surprising that people posing as Bulgarian secret service officers waiting for us at the Bulgarian border would provide our security along the Bulgarian border.. The high tendency of the mafia in the country to hijack such luxury cars pushed the company to take such a precaution during the event.
After a two-hour wait, the second stage of the first day was started with the participation of special security tools.. The 215 km Dereköy-Varna stage was supposed to be completed in three and a half hours.. However, Radar applications on the Bulgarian border and speed limits of 40 and 60 kilometers along the road caused us to finish this distance with a delay of 25 minutes. Of course, the fact that we are the only team among the 10 competing cars without integrated navigation, also plays a part in this delay.
Another negative thing that affected us was that most of the roads between Dereköy and Varna pass through untouched forests.. However, the thing that surprised us the most during the day in Bulgaria was the results in the evening.. After being late for 25 minutes and trying to see the speed limits of the Porsche Panamera diesel on the highway up to the Bulgarian border, we were not very assertive in the competition.. However, we managed to become the leader of the first day as Turkey’s second car with a fuel consumption of approximately 5.8 liters per 100 km.. We were as victorious as Murat. In other classifications, the winners were from other countries.
Varna is the third largest city in Bulgaria after Sofia and Plovdiv. Varna is one of the most important university cities in Bulgaria with its five universities.. Varna, on the Black Sea coast with a population of 334 thousand 870, is also the tourism center of the country.. Varna Cathedral, Vladislav Varnenchik Park, Asparouh Bridge and Roman baths are among the must-visit places when you are in Varna.
