With our Cinque Terre travel guide, this time we are on our way to the La Spezia region, which is home to the five most beautiful villages in Italy. With Cinque Terre attractions, Cinque Terre villages, how to get to Cinque Terre, Cinque Terre accommodation and more You will find the most detailed information.
We are going to La Spezia, almost the northernmost part of Italy, with the night train from Naples.. It was almost morning when we arrived in La Spezia. After waiting for the Cinque Terre office to open, we plan to buy our Cinque Terre cards and first go to the village where we will stay, leave our luggage at the hotel and then visit the villages.. However, since our check-in time is 13:00, we kill time by sitting in the square of Vernezza village.. The longer we sat, the more we memorized who lives in which house
The villages of Cinque Terre, which means 5 villages in the Ligurian Sea: Monterosso Al Mare, Vernezza, Corniglia, Manarola, Rio Maggiore It was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997.. With its architecture built on rock, panoramic slopes and thousands of years of historical culture, each village in Cinque Terre is more beautiful than the last.
The main reason I came to Cinque Terre : Cover image of Jess Walter’s novel Beautiful Ruins.
Formerly empty villages are now flooded with tourists. We can say that the average age of the tourists is 50 and over.. You can use the train transportation between the villages or you can choose the walking tracks, the biggest activity of this place is walking between the villages.. Since the hiking trails are also paid, your daily Cinque Terre card will be valid both on the train and on the tracks.
We went to the first village of Monterosso Al Mare.
The best beach/beach in Cinque Terre, many wine shops, hotels and restaurants are in this village. San Cristoforo hill divides the village in two. The area where the beach and the train station are until the pedestrian tunnel just below the hill is called Fegina.. The area after passing the tunnel is the center of Storico, known as the old city.. There is also a tiny beach here, but it is not a suitable place for swimming.
The point where you can best watch the view of the village 17. It is the Capuchin Monastery that was built in the 19th century.
The San Francesco church was first converted into a hospital and then into a warehouse in the 1800s.. It became an art house with the restoration in 1894.
Neptune statue in the parking lot at the end of Fegina beach is a must see.. The flat stone that the statue carried on its shoulder was used as a dance floor at the time.
The clarity of the sea on the Fegina beach, the colorful umbrellas on the beach and the houses stretching like a rope at the back were all integrated with each other.
Vernezza
The village where we are staying. It is enough to walk the straight road to get off the train station and reach the port, which is the center of the village, after a few hundred meters.. This is a flatter village compared to the others.
Many houses and workplaces were destroyed due to the flood that took place in Vernezza on October 25, 2011.
The feature of the village is its narrow streets. More houses and people than other villages. The port of the village is the center of this place. All cafes and restaurants line the square in a half-moon shape.
The church of Santa Margherita di Antiochia, built in 1318, can also be seen in the square.. Even if you have visited the surrounding villages by train instead of walking, do not forget to continue on the narrow stairs to the left of the fountain in the square and see Vernezza from the top, thanks to a 10-minute climb.
Corniglia
As we get off the train station, we turn left and continue on the narrow road. And we arrived at the top of the winding staircase of 337 steps.. There were a lot of stalls going up the stairs. If we do not count those who sell fake glasses, the stall where the paintings of 5 villages belonging to Cinque Terre are sold were very colorful.
I admit that every trip is tiring, but this time our trip to Italy was the most tiring of all our trips.. That’s why I start climbing 337 steps dizzy. I can finally reach the top. Wherever you go from the right or the left, the road leads to the center of the village.
Instead of climbing the stairs, you can use the shuttle bus to reach the village center. you can go to the center. Well, if there is a service, you may ask why you went up the stairs.. Anyway, my advice to you would be to reach the village from the hiking trail.. As you get tired, you won’t be able to get enough of the view under your feet at every break you take.
Across the village : Manarola
The Church of San Pietro, built in 1334, is right in the middle of the village.
The alleys of the village are very suitable for taking pictures.
Famous for its wine. The 2 km long road that starts from where Via dell’Amore starts and goes all the way to Riomaggiore was closed when we went.
San Lorenzo, built in 1338 above the village, can be visited .
There is no beach in Manarola, so people can barely swim from the rocks.
Riomaggiore
It is the closest village to La Spezia.
We recommend that you do not get on the front and last carriages of the train before arriving in Riomaggiore. Since the wagons do not fit in the train station, the doors of the rear and front wagons remain inside the tunnel and cannot be opened.
The coastline and the San Giovanni Battista church on the top of the village, as well as the marble doors on the right and left of the church is notable. When you continue through the tunnel on the right side, not to the center of the village after you get off the train, you should go to the port, reach the top of the stairs and take bird’s-eye photos of the port.

Most of the tracks are free.
We recommend that you get the Cinque Terre Card if you are going to take the train and climb at least 3 times a day.
