We just got back from Croatia and we’re already typing at jet speed. Here’s the Pula and Rovinj Travel Guide!
The summer of 2020 was pretty isolated for us and almost without any sea vacations.. The state of the world is known, we are healthy, thank God. Anyway, when this is the case, we took the map from Munich, opened it, looked, and said, ‘Where is the nearest sea to go!?’. That’s how the Rovinj and Pula trip on Croatia’s Adriatic coast came to mind. Glad it came! We discovered Croatia once again, where we had visited the cities of Zagreb, Dubrovnik and Plitvice before..
We were once again amazed by Croatia, where we went for the third time.. And we discovered Croatia once again, where we had visited the cities of Zagreb, Dubrovnik and Plitvice before. We could not reach a more beautiful place by car in 6 hours from Munich.. A route worth coming from Turkey. In fact, I wish we had time to see other Croatian beaches we wanted to see (such as Split and Zadar) as soon as possible.. And even when we left, we saw that we are not the only ones who thought of not going to the Turkish coast and coming to Croatia. Dozens of Turks living in Europe like us are vacationing in Pula with the same mindset.. We say greetings and love to everyone who is longing for Turkey and get right to the point..
Rovinj and Pula Travel Guide
We came with the energy that Croatia gave us, and in our Pula and Rovinj travel guide Is Croatia expensive , Transport in Pula, Transport in Rovinj, Rovinj places to visit, Pula Accommodation, Rovinj Accommodation, Transportation from Germany to Pula, when to go to Pulay and Food and drink in Pula and Rovinj We talked in detail about. Here is our Pula and Rovinj Travel Guide and where we visited in 4 days!
Reaching Pula and Rovinj
Now, we know that many people come to this region from Germany.. So let’s talk about transportation by car first.. If you come from Germany, you cross the borders of Germany, Austria, Slovenia and Croatia in order.. When leaving Slovenia and entering Croatian there is sometimes a tiny passport control but not always. There is a passport control on the way back from Croatia to Slovenia.. Because as you know, although Croatia is a member of the European Union, it is not in the Schengen area.. There is also another situation that we noticed; They treat vehicles from Germany better at the border than vehicles from other countries.
Anyway, so you need to set your hours accordingly. We waited in the passport queue for about 1 hour on the way back.. You also need to get vignettes for Slovenian and Austrian motorways, don’t forget them. There are many cheap flights to Pula from other European destinations.. Maybe it might interest you.
For those who want to come from Turkey, it is most logical to fly to Zadar or Zagreb.. You can even fly to Zagreb and travel the Adriatic coastline to Dubrovnik and return from Dubrovnik.. We love the Adriatic coast of Croatia!
For transportation in Pula and Rovinj, a car is a great convenience.. If you are coming in the summer, we will suggest you to rent a car, considering that you will travel from the coast to the coast.. There is also public transport, of course, it can be difficult to adjust the hours.
Accommodation in Pula
If you are coming to this region now, you will probably stay in either Pula or Rovinj.. If you want to be more active in the evenings, have a little more Alaçatı air, go to beautiful places in the evening, we recommend Rovinj for accommodation.. But if you say that it is more important for me to have a more town air, to be close to the beaches, our recommendation is to stay in Pula.. We stayed in Pula. About half an hour by car from Rovinj to Pula.
Let’s say this about accommodation in Pula; Hotel culture is not very developed in this region.. Apartments or houses are generally preferred for accommodation.. The most logical thing is to keep it apart, so you can handle 1-2 meals at home.. Unfortunately, this region is quite expensive and the food and beverage costs are at German standards..
When choosing accommodation, be sure to have a parking lot.. The Pula Suites Apartments where we stayed did not have a parking lot or a parking agreement, so we had to search for a parking lot for almost 1 hour every evening.. And every evening we paid at least 10 Euros for the parking lot. Also, we had to leave the car on the street one night when we couldn’t find a parking lot, and we were out of our minds all night.. Parking is important.
Let’s also say this about accommodation, we stayed in the center of Pula, but if we had the choice now, we would stay in one of the hotels near Hawaii Beach.. Since we went for a sea holiday, we only visited the beaches during the day, and in the evening we did not visit the center much due to the pandemic.. So resorts here could be a good choice.. Park Plaza and Veradula Beach Apartments are two of them, for example.
If you want to stay on Airbnb, let’s leave a link like this. If you become a member of Airbnb with this link, you will earn a credit of 270 TL valid on your first stay, and as you continue to use Airbnb, Airbnb may start to like you more and add surprise credits to your account.. Good luck finding a place!
If you choose to stay in Rovinj but choose a place close to the center, you will be very comfortable because there is literally life on the street in Rovinj in the evenings! Places are open until late, everywhere is chirpy. We think it would be best to hang out and walk back to the hotel at night..
How many days to stay in Pula and Rovinj?
In our opinion, Pula and its beaches deserve at least 3 days. If you have come to take a sea vacation, of course, you can extend it.. Taking into account that you will also see Rovinj, if we say Rovinj city center for 1 day and Rovinj beaches for 1 day, 4 days are very ideal for this region in our opinion.. But if you have more time you will never get bored.
Places to Visit in Pula
Before moving on to the beaches, let’s tell a little about places to visit;
Pula Arena
Before you come, take photos of Pula If you have looked, you have seen a huge Arena.. This arena is the sixth largest surviving amphitheater from the Roman period.. You can see the inside of the arena and the cellars below with a ticket for about 5 Euros.. Especially if you go early in the morning, no one will be there.. We loved this arena made of Venetian stones, which was on the verge of destruction dozens of times and managed to survive..
If you are interested, you can also visit the nearby Archaeological Museum. If you have even more energy left, Temple of August, 14. century St.. Francis Church and Orthodos Church.
Pula Beaches and Bays
Pula is a very generous place on the beach. The best thing is that there are no businesses in the bays and beaches.. You can throw your towel on the beach you want as you wish.. What should be considered here is to take sea shoes with you when you go to the stone beaches and also to take your food and water with you.. There may not be a business near some bays..
If you say you want a business, not a public beach or bay, they are there too. Highly recommended for example La Playa Beach Bar, and Zeppelin Launch Bar. Since we shrugged off paying for the beach in Turkey, we only hung out in the bays on this trip
1-) Hawaii Beach
Our favorite beach was Hawaii Beach. We went early in the morning and threw our towel on the beach and stayed for hours in the sparkling sea.. Even after it started to get crowded towards noon, the water was very nice. If you want, you can buy sunbeds with money, but if you have a thick towel, you don’t need it..
If you get hungry towards noon, you can eat at the pizzeria right next to it, the prices are reasonable.. As we wrote above, there are many beautiful hotels around Hawaii Beach.. It can be a good location for accommodation.
2-) Veradula Canyon
Veradula Canyon was a place where we were caught by the view. You go to Hawaii Beach and follow signs for Veradula. Then the road takes you to where the canyon is. After a small descent, you come to the tiny rocks of the canyon where you can enter the sea.. The view is perfect!
There were a lot of jellyfish on the shore when we went. That’s why we didn’t swim in the water. Our guess is that jellyfish are constantly being dragged here because it is a very deep place.. It may be like this when you go, so you shouldn’t expect too much from the sea.. It is definitely worth it for the view.
3-) Stoja Beach – Stoja Beach
Stoja Beach is one of the most preferred beaches of Pula. Since the beach is long here, you can escape to the woods in the back or throw your towel on the seaside.. It would be better if you bring sea shoes because the beach is stony and it is difficult to walk without shoes on the stones.. There are no businesses nearby so take your water with you.
And also, the reason why this is one of the most touristic places is because Seagull Cliffs and its cave are here! You must have seen again while looking at the Pula photos, caves were formed here over time and you can swim in one of them.. Here people either jump from the cliffs into the sea, or swim in the cave, or come here by SUP or canoe..
If you have no previous SUP experience, it may be tiring to come here with SUP, but it is easy to come by canoe.. We came to swim in the sea on the first day, and on the second day we rented a canoe from the beach to visit the inside of the cave.. When you come around Stoja Beach, you will already see places where you can rent canoes.. Half day canoe was probably 18 Euros. A bit expensive but Pula is already an expensive area. There are also canoe tours, but they are very expensive, there is no need for them. You are already using the canoe in both of them..
4-) Fort Punta Christo
One of the most interesting places in Pula is Fort Punta Christo castle and the beach where you can swim inside the castle and its famous bridge. But unfortunately it was closed for renovations when we went and will remain closed until next summer (summer of 2021).. You can check if it’s open before you go.. There are other beaches in this area, but frankly, the most beautiful one is Punta Christo.. So if it is still closed when you go, you may not need to go here..
The beaches we loved to go were like this. We didn’t have time to go to Stinjan Beach’ in Pula.. maybe you can try.
Pula Eating and Drinking Tips
Pula is not a place that does wonders for eating and drinking, but if you like to try seafood restaurants and different pizzas, it will make you happy..
Our recommendation for breakfast Backyard Breakfast & Dinner. Breakfast is 10 Euros per person and it is very satisfying.. For dinner, you can try Bistro Alighieri and Katina Restaurant. Our favorite was the seafood fast food restaurant Hook & Cook. Only the prices hurt a little…!
Apart from that, you will see alternatives such as doner kebab, wraps, and slice pizzeria in most places while walking.. Meals can be passed over with these too.. The more perfect Rovinj was in terms of food and drink, the more average Pula was, let’s not go without saying this.
Now let’s talk about Rovinj;
Pula and Rovinj Travel Guide – Places to Visit in Rovinj
Places to visit in Rovinj
Let’s call Rovinj Croatia, you say, an Italian town. Here is such a friendly place. This is an extremely sympathetic town with a nudist beach, where you can see that all the shopkeepers speak German since the locals are very sympathetic, many Germans came..
Rovinj Old Town District
The old city center is the first place to visit in Rovinj. You can easily travel everywhere by walking and memorize its streets.. Its architecture is very beautiful and you can come across beautiful buildings, arches and streets when you least expect it.. we loved this part.
The places we especially recommend you to see while visiting the old city; 12. century city clock, Balbi Arch, Medieval City Gate, Carrera Street, Grisia Street and strong>Valdibora Farmers’ Market. While you are visiting these places, you are taking a full tour of the old city..
When looking at photos of Rovinj, you will see a photo of a table in a narrow street by the sea. This is the most popular spot in Rovinj. It’s actually the door of a boutique.. So you can go to the street where the Driocastel Bar’ is.. It will appear on the right.
Rovinj Travel Guide – Rovinj Beaches
The best part of Rovinj is that you don’t even have to bother to go to the beach to swim.. We are serious about this, because even while walking in the old city center in Rovinj, you will see people swimming in the sea on the rocks left and right.. Rovinj is seriously over the top in this regard… It is also very clean since people do not leave trash behind.. All you need is a towel (or mattress) and sea shoes. If you have these, you can swim anywhere in Rovinj..
Of course, this does not mean that there are no beaches in Rovinj, there are many beautiful places.. Zlatni Forest (Zlatni Forest), Cuvi Beach, Baluota Beach are three of the most liked.
Rovinj Food and Drink Tips
Rovinj is so good at food and beverage and venue! We drank such nice cocktails in such pleasant cafes that we would not have written.
Our two favorite venues were Mediterraneo Bar and Valentino Bar . Cocktail venues, two of them side by side, right at the bottom of the sea.. Especially Valentino is amazing in the evenings. We can’t think of a better place for sunset in Rovinj. If you have the opportunity, definitely go..
For dinner, we will recommend Tipico Green Garden and Bookeria. Finally, we said that this place is like a little Italy.. We hope you won’t be back without eating Galletto .
Pula and Rovinj Travel Guide and our travel experiences were like that! Croatia has a special place for us.. We wish everyone a nice trip.
