While Erciyes and Hasandağı were volcanically eroding, 60 million years ago, with the lava erupted together with Güllüdağ , with the traces of wind and rain over the years, as a result of many natural events, fairy tales landforms of the region such as chimneys. Houses and churches carved into the rocks made the region a giant shelter and an important religious center for Christians fleeing the oppression of the Roman Empire.. MS. 3. and 4. We can observe the centuries-old structures in the region.. Under every stone you throw your hand at, you see the caves where people secretly prayed and even lived.
What Can You Do in Cappadocia? Cappadocia Activities
- Fairy Chimneys & Valley Tours
- Cappadocia Balloon Tours : Absolutely negotiable! Price in 150 Euros. Costs may be more fair for Turks. 20 people get on the balloon and you float in the sky for 1 hour. He gets up at 05:30 in the morning. Certificate and non-alcoholic champagne are given on the descent.

- Making Bowls in Avanos: Handcrafted Avanos products, unique pieces from the workshops. The master reveals his masterpiece by turning his workbench with his foot. The old workshop called Bezirhane hosted us very well.. You came all the way to Avanos, don’t forget to raise your feet and make a wish while crossing the Kızılırmak
- Wine Tasting : When you come to Ürgüp, Turasan Taste at the Wine Factory and visit Asmalı Konak. If you are in Uçhisar, do not leave without tasting Kocabağ wines.. Sales are also made here along with the tasting.. Be sure to try the products of Emir grapes unique to the region.
- The Turkish Night in Cappadocia is one of the indispensable and incredibly entertaining activities.. You won’t regret it, I think you should definitely go. We had a lot of fun at the Uranos restaurant. It was not included in the tour, there was a fee of 90 TL per person.. Appetizers and unlimited alcohol included. If you want to continue having fun after the Turkish Night, the most famous night venue Sess is waiting for you.
- Cappadocia Dishes: Testi Kebab You are in a place where you can admire its cuisine, from mantı, to pot kebabs, to authentic Ottoman dishes.. Returning without gaining three kilos is not one of us! I can recommend Orient restaurant for testi kebab. Seten is one of my favorites with everything.
Cappadocia Tour Program – Places to Visit in Cappadocia
Ihlara Valley and Churches
Ihlara Valley, 100 km from Göreme, is one of the largest canyons in the world.. This place is connected to Aksaray, even on the road to Ihlara, it says “This is not a Cappadocia trip”. Whatever they got angry, they don’t feed Ihlara anymore. There are countless churches in the valley.. It is located on the Melendiz Stream, at the end of the track, pancake buttermilk awaits you in the barracks..
You can reach the valley by descending 400 steps. And of course, every descent has an up. My tongue sticks out but it’s not even a little. There is a world church to visit in the valley. We were only able to stop by what I mentioned.. There will be time, you will spend all day here. Snake Church, Under Tree Church, Sümbüllü Church are the things you should definitely prioritize.. You can enter Ihlara Valley with a museum card.
*It’s almost like a museum card is a must when entering everywhere in Cappadocia. When you remove it, you can use it for 1 year in all museums in Turkey.. 2019 Museum Card price is 70 TL.
Derinkuyu & Kaymaklı Underground City
I visited both Derinkuyu and Kaymaklı underground city on different trips. However, I know that Kaymaklı has been preferred more recently due to the beauty of its lighting and arrangement.. You can enter both with the museum card.. Now let me tell you about Derinkuyu.
Cappadocia’s largest underground city and has a deep-rooted history of four thousand years.. Eight floors of Derinkuyu Underground City, which consists of 18 floors, can be visited today.. It is 29 km from Nevşehir and a museum card is valid at the entrance.. The underground city was found by accident and opened to the public in 1965.. It is said to be the 9th wonder of the world.
This city, which was established by descending 8 floors underground, makes people swallow their tongue. This place was used both as a hiding place and a secret place of worship in the early days of Christianity.. Then to take refuge in the Arab invasions.. It has a school, a baptistery, a kitchen, a warehouse, bedrooms, dining rooms, wine cellars, stables, hideouts, arms depots.. You can’t do this architecture with today’s technology.. I don’t mind. It’s too scary to go inside. People always say how can I get out of here if something happens right now.. It is recommended that people who already have asthma and phobia of indoor spaces should not go inside.
How tall were these people? We walked bent over all the aisles. What were they wearing? These questions have no answers. A skeleton was found at the time, but lost during inspection! (my beautiful country)
The caves are called “Stone Doors” and the holes are closed with circles so that you can observe the middle.. And these doors were made outside and brought in! Stone gate rocks and cave rocks have differences.
They used to make a common fire in their food and eat together.. It provides both the transportation of sound and air flow, which you can see on every floor with its ventilation chimneys.. According to the researches, an average of 10,000 people live in this underground city.. 8 floors have been removed so far, but it is thought that there is another 10 floors underground.
Narlıgöl Crater Lake
The scenic spot is a pleasant stopping point to relax during the day.
Paşabağ Valley
Here are the most magnificent fairy chimneys. The fairy chimneys on the Zelve road are around 15 meters tall.. Some have 3 heads.. Full of photography!
From here you can go to Zelve Ancient City. Since we were going to Göreme Open Air Museum, we skipped this place due to its similarities.
Devrent Valley – Imagination Valley
There are many The reason why Devrent, which hosts a photographic spot, is also called Hayal Valley, one of the landforms resembles a camel, one resembles the Virgin Mary, and one resembles Hacivat & Karagöz.
Hacı Bektaş- ı Veli Dervish Lodge & Museum
Cappadocia is a bit far from the center, but thanks to the advantage of going with a tour, we filled our hearts with spirituality by going to this lodge that we could not visit in our previous individual trips.. It is such an important place.. We learned the rules and processes of the lodge. Would you look at the beauty of these words?
Güvercinlik Valley
After taking a tea break here with a beautiful view, the place from the cave is Uranos inside the restaurant we had our lunch. In the evening, we went to this place again for the Turkish night and had a lot of fun!
Galleri Ikman
The historical carpet shop in the center of Göreme. They take great pictures. But now we have become friends, their request from us is to state that photo shoots are subject to a fee.. They get very crowded especially during peak season.. They also shoot drones if you wish.
Uçhisar Castle
The peak of Cappadocia Uçhisar Castle. From here you can observe the entire region. After Goreme, you can stop by and take pictures at the castle..
Mustafapaşa
Another district where you can see old mansions, very suitable for Cappadocia travel photos. In fact, the mansions have hosted several TV series.
Göreme Open Air Museum
I think Göreme is the most beautiful place among Cappadocia travel routes.. The region, where fairy chimneys are predominant, is a must for sightseeing stops.. In my opinion, the best accommodation options are even in this region.. The Open Air Museum is the most important factor that makes it so special.
There are many churches inside.. The pictures on the walls need to be examined.. Museum card valid at the entrance.
- Dark Church: You can enter by paying an extra fee of 10 TL. It has a very small window and is called that because very little light enters it.. The pictures have never been worn out because they have not seen light.
- Barbara Church
- Çarıklı Church
- Elmalı Church : There are murals on the theme of Jesus’ blessing, baptism, last supper, crucifixion. One of the paintings on the wall has a round shape similar to an apple seen in the hand of Jesus. That’s why this church was called Elmalı Church.
- Snake Church: According to mythology, Onoouhrios was a devious woman.. Tired of men bothering her so much, she begged God to get me out of this trouble.. God accepted his prayer and grew a beard on his face.. She continued her life as a woman with her breasts and genitals, but a man with her beard and face.. You can see it depicted on the church walls.
- Saint Basel Chapel
You left the Göreme Open Air Museum. You will see the Tokalı Church just below. You can enter the museum with a card.
You can also set the sun on Lovers’ Hill’ in Goreme in the evening.
Love Valley
My dear, we say goodbye to Cappadocia from a perfect valley. Love Valley is one of the places where you can see the 60 million-year-old love of Cappadocia most clearly.
