North Side of the Black Sea..
Kyiv, one of the largest and oldest cities in Eastern Europe, divided into two by the Dnieper River, gained its freedom in 1991 with the dissolution of the Soviet Union.. Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, has lived under the Russian Tsardom and Ottoman patronage for a long time… It is not known whether it prefers to remain calm with its freedom in the city, which has to adapt itself to different cultures with the dominance of different nations… Everything is stagnant… Everything it moves as it should and in its own routine…
We will take our Kyiv tour, with a 13-hour transfer from Kyiv to St.. We visited during our flight to St. Petersburg. St.. Before planning to go to St. Petersburg, we have compiled a list of must-see places in Kiev.. And so we decided that half a day would be enough just to see the sights in Kyiv. With the awareness that every traveler should do good time management, we have prepared a Kyiv itinerary.. If we didn’t have time, we thought we’d have a reason to come again and bought our plane tickets to Kiev… It was definitely the right decision!

By plane : Kyiv Airport, aka Boryspil International Airport, is located approximately 19 km east of Kyiv city centre.. Boryspil Airport has 2 terminals, B and D.. In other words, it is a very small airport… Terminal B is used for international passengers. There are direct flights to Kiev from Istanbul.. To get from the airport to the city center of Kyiv;
- By taxi: When you leave Boryspil Airport, you will see taxis waiting at the gate of Terminal B.. If you want to feel safe, you can choose Sky Taxi, the airport official contracted taxi company.. You pay at the rate of 4.5 Ukrainian hryvnia (Ukraine Hryvnia, UAH) per kilometer. [1UAH = €0.040 -2015 exchange rate] We preferred transportation by taxi. If you are traveling with more than 3 people, taxi transportation is more affordable.. You can reach the city center of Kyiv by paying 50 Ukrainian hryvnia (Ukraine Hryvnia, UAH). Taxi prices between Kyiv Airport and the city center vary between 40-70 Ukrainian hryvnia (UAH).. Don’t give any more, taxi drivers may try to cheat you.
- By Bus: By bus called Sky Bus, it is the cheapest mode of transportation to reach Kyiv city center from Kiev Airport.. The last stop of the bus is the Kyiv Metro Station (Kyiv Metro Station, Pivdenny Railway Station) in the city center, Kharkivska Metro Station (Kharkivska Metro Station) on the green line.. Kyiv subway, one of the oldest subways in the world. Even Arsenalna metro station is the deepest metro in the world with 105.5 meters. When this is the case, with more than 50 metro stops, transportation within the city of Kyiv is very, very easy by metro… Even though Kiev is a city where you can visit historical places on foot, we have included the metro in our Kyiv route.. Because the Kyiv metro is a historical monument in itself and must be seen!
Kyiv metro has Red, Green and Blue lines. The metro ticket, which is a plastic coin, can be obtained from the ticket office in the metro or from the orange ticket vending machines.. Subway tokens amounting to 2 UAH are very cheap compared to many European countries.. (2016 price)
